Re:The Problem With Happiness on Saturday May 04, 2019 @04:50AM (#19825278)
People's Maslow Heirarchy of Needs need to be satisficed in order to not be stressing. I think the safety net of some European countries is a good model to emulate in many respects.

Ideally, you want people happy enough to form long-term, stable pair-bonds and have kids.... no kids, there's no future.

Hmm, speculation is early (investigators refrain), but maybe did they get get-there-itis?

I watch Mentour Pilot, VASAviation, (Kennedy Steve), Captain Joe, Flight Chops and blancolirio well before the MAX incident.

It's a miracle the AWP got into Counter Strike. Either the design is so striking that it advertises itself or people-in-the-know recommended it. You'd think they'd use a Barrett as the "big ol' rifle" 3D model.
They are living things. But also, greedy bastards can take living, thriving businesses into the embassy in Istanbul, chop them up and sell the pieces for profit.
Yup. Wonder if there's any co-op / worker-owned medium-sized firearms manufacturers that are US-based?
If they can't get this right, what hope is there of browser security?
Workey! TY kind individual.

Gee, I wonder if he remembers Oklahoma was a bastion of American socialism until the red scare (and Trump's mentor, the insane, "sue everyone" fascist Roy Cohn) excommunicated and banished anyone who wasn't for the nouveau "libertarianism" anarcho-capitalism (socialism/regulatory capture for the rich, austerity/neglect for everyone else).

No workey
Re:Thoughts on macOS Package Managers on Tuesday April 30, 2019 @01:15AM (#19785340)
Where to begin. it's a Homebrew hit-piece extolling how the inaccessible and system-modifying MacPorts is "superior." Bologna! I don't trust MacPorts, it's old, confusing, has terrible UX and promotes system-entropy increase (read: weird gotchas and eventual reinstalls). Leave my goddamn system alone. I don't trust giving a community package sudo.. ever. I don't pipe bash into shell, so no sudo for you either, mister package manager.

No sale.

Re:Ask HN: Can this iPhone data be recovered? on Wednesday April 24, 2019 @04:25AM (#19736521)
SMH. No, you're guessing and you guessed wrong. Turning on a passcode turns on Data Protection. https://www.macworld.com/article/2029998/understanding-ios-p...

iCloud maybe a better/easier way to recover some, but not all, data.

Jessa Jones has retrieved photos from water-logged phones when Apple said it's "unrepairable" and "everything is lost." A passcode-locked phone might require more hardware hacking to reset or bypass, if it's even possible sub-megabuck$.
Re:Why are Chinese tourists so badly behaved? on Wednesday April 24, 2019 @01:55AM (#19735902)
If any group of tourists can't behave themselves, then either police them or don't grant them visas. An undefended community ceases to be. Furthermore, if any group of tourists is getting away with causing problems, there's bigger, and more fundamental, issues that environmental or landmark destruction.
