Re:WhatsApp is blocking Telegram links on Tuesday December 01, 2015 @10:21AM (#10655939)
Uhm, decent support on all your devices? (there's even a commandline client).

Versus that ridiculous hack where you can whatsapp in the browser, provided you scan a qr code and have the phone on the same network.

Agreed. More interesting is the variant where people try to solve a cube in as few moves as possible.
Re:The impact of syntax colouring on program comprehension [pdf] on Thursday November 26, 2015 @10:48AM (#10633414)
Having colors for different classes of code fragment just helps to reduce the amount of processing of the code in the brain. Seems to me that this is a win, at least it is for me.

In daily life I use a very colorful scheme (darcula on steroids) and just thinking about monochrome makes my head hurt.

I guess law and programming aren't too different after all.

Just that one is about creating and the other about getting f*cked over.

jq? links?

my osx install does not seem to have these things.

Re:Generating Word Search Puzzles on Saturday September 26, 2015 @04:18PM (#10284293)
Interesting, and familiar.

I had this idea a while back and made a puzzlegame for Android and iOs that does basically this.

The idea is to create puzzles on ANY subject that contain words relating to that subject.

- let user type, search wikipedia for articles starting with that text

- grab selected article, find out words in it that are links to other articles (they are probably related)

- generate a puzzle

I also do random placement, but I also add a score to the final puzzle, taking into account spread in vertical/horizontal/diagonal words. Then I just create as many random puzzles as I can in 4 seconds and take 'the best'.

More detailed writeup here: http://miscellany.codestare.com/WordsearchPlus/

Finished products: iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/word-search-plus-word-puzzle... Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.codestare....

Some people prefer not to spend time on cooking.

I'm a bit surprised they decoded json on the main thread...
What the examples need is a link to the Playstore/Itunes so we can see how Fuse behaves on a real device.

Somehow it does not understand what to do with my https://mydomain.io/blah url, it tries to fetch https://mydomain.io%0A/blah%0A

Postman has no problems with it though :)

According to the IO 2014 talk about docker/kubernetes, it was chosen because it means something like pilot/helmsman.
Re:In Busy Silicon Valley, Protein Powder Is in Demand on Sunday May 24, 2015 @05:54PM (#9597777)
I've been eating our own type of soylent for the past year and a half now. 2 per day, morning and noon, and 'normal' dinner. The type I eat is ketogenic (meaning low carb).

I have to conclude that I feel better than ever before. Where previously I ate very monotonic (and one could argue, I still do), I did not get all the nutrients I should. I now do, and feel pretty damn good.

I do feel soylent is the future, but there are many varieties.

In my circles, the whole movement has sparked a lot of discussion, and many people close to me are now eating all kinds of soylent, homemade, joylent, jake shake etc.

Let's hope that someday the whole 'fat is bad' concept leaves the mainstream, it does not seem to do a lot of good.

Btw the variety I eat costs below 5 euros per day, with 2100 calories. And I think it tastes pretty great. Only wins.

I suspect all that depleted uranium the US has been dumping in other countries via bullets is not helping the local DNA at all.

And what do we do with most gold?

We store it in vaults...

For one, in the US there exist a thing called 'private prison'.

Meaning prisons are run by private companies, with the intent to make as much money as possible.

Meaning laws are influenced by the money from these companies.

It's fucking scary, really.

Yeah I wonder what other purpose this testimony could have.

Seems to me a moment where a lawyer in the movies would shout 'objection, relevancy' or something.

He says the maximum number of units is 1600.

If 6 players mindcontrol a drone and an scv and build additional armies, the total number of units could way exceed 1600. Or what am I missing?

Re:Apache Wave on Sandstorm.io on Wednesday August 20, 2014 @06:10PM (#8204947)
I think where Google messed up was requiring invites for Wave.

Pretty hard to get people on board when they first have to scrounge to get an invite to something they do not quite understand. Network effect--;

It could have been so big and awesome. I'm sure after a while the speed issues would have been ironed out.

Re:Opera is really nice. on Thursday February 13, 2014 @08:32AM (#7231210)
Opera WAS very nice. Fast, great keyboard navigation, native mouse gestures, native tabs on the left instead of above.

But sometimes it would just hang, some sites would not show properly.

I kept it around for way too long. Now I use firefox with a tab addon and curse its sluggishness..

There just don't seem to be any browsers that don't suck in some way.
