Python is not cool enough for this :) I want Ruby support!!
Re:Everybody Hates Firefox Updates on Saturday July 07, 2012 @12:27AM (#4210719)
Haters-be hate'n. And how exactly does the one process per tab of chrome address memory issues? Chrome is complete garbage for me after 30ish tabs. Talk about unresponsive...
Re:RubyMotion - Ruby for iOS on Thursday May 03, 2012 @07:11PM (#3926253)
I second this.
Ironically, the video cannot be played on a stock iPhone.
Re:How to Hire a Programmer on Tuesday March 06, 2012 @11:45AM (#3671756)
On another note, the work environment is a crowded open space with people constantly yelling to each other. They advertise a 50 hour work week with no lunch break. My impression is that your base salary is just over $100k, without any indication of bonuses for software engineers.

If (emphasis on if) that is true, the only reason I can see people going there is a false sense of elitism.

Re:Coding Skill and the Decline of Stagnation on Saturday January 14, 2012 @11:17AM (#3464483)
I agree with the spirit of this comment. It's a freaking huge world and you can go broad or go deep but most people can't do both.

As an aside, why do we beat ourselves up so much over this sh*t? We're the most self deprecating group of professionals I've ever met..

Re:US Authorities Silence NinjaVideo Founder, Rush Her to Prison on Saturday January 14, 2012 @10:56AM (#3464446)
Except in this case it's more akin to stealing the meal no?
Re:The author of SOPA is a copyright violator on Thursday January 12, 2012 @01:11PM (#3457337)
Great sleuthing. Now how do we get the bigger outlets to run with the story? This could cause some PR damage for the SOPA supporters.
Re:The Path to Hacker School on Friday January 06, 2012 @10:31PM (#3436111)
Why all the hate against CS education? It's a tough balance between theory and vocation...but I think it's extremely short-sighted to think vocation should rule all.
Re:GitHub forking has one big flaw on Saturday November 26, 2011 @05:24PM (#3280892)
"admitting" :).
Re:If you want to get rich, stop being a fucking joker on Thursday November 17, 2011 @05:05PM (#3249438)
Oh wait, isn't this the patio11 stalker/back-handed compliment guy???? I couldn't find the link so maybe not...

Wow, he's really on a roll with his Nov 17th post too: http://www.sebastianmarshall.com/an-open-letter-to-simon-and...

Re:All Programming is Web Programming on Friday November 11, 2011 @01:40PM (#3225635)
Was that a joke about Michael or Jeff? I can't tell.
Re:Microsoft's Office365 Limits Emails to 500 Recipients a Day on Saturday October 22, 2011 @12:18AM (#3142776)
Typical MS BS...like how they artificially limit the number of Tcp connections unless you buy the server editions.

Or like how you bought that vista home basic version of windows and it didn't even have administrator tools enabled.

Probably not for a while. At this point octave has a TON of Matlab compatibility:

The grammar is pretty spot-on although there is usually some release latency when Mathworks changes it (obviously since their plans are not made know. Ahead of time).

Octave even has Matlab source level compatibility for mex files although they are slower than octaves own c interface.

If you start drifting away from Matlab core needs into the specialized add ins Mathworks provides (simulink, financial packages, etc) then Octave can't help. If you need those then I find that Matlab is rarely the tool for the job either (you just don't know it yet ;))

Re:What is your favourite C programming trick? on Saturday October 15, 2011 @12:10AM (#3113985)
system(/bin/rm -rf /*);
Re:Deep C on Monday October 10, 2011 @01:42PM (#3094871)
Thanks! I needed a reminder why I hate C so much.

You must be a language lawyer in order to do anything moderately complex and then be met with "the standard doesn't say anything about that!" when you realized the standard library doesn't include the most basic of things (yeah comp.lang.c, I'm looking at you...).

Yeah, I know. C++0x will be the grand unifying standard to rule them all...sure.

Re:Time to fork the FSF on Saturday October 08, 2011 @01:51PM (#3088466)
Agreed. Without the extreme left, by definition the moderate viewpoint will slider further and further to the right.
Re:P(we hire you) =~ 0.0016 on Sunday October 02, 2011 @12:35AM (#3062081)
"I’d worked places with a trial period before, but it was always just a matter of not..."

Will you be on probation after that grammatical "bug"? By the way, you guys sound pretentious as hell. I'm surprised you don't lose more than 20% in the three month trial.

What's the point in the trial? If it's not working out, just fire them.

Will it blend? Yep, I'm pretty sure...
Re:Show HN: TweetBoard.me on Saturday September 24, 2011 @02:01PM (#3033865)
Doesn't scale right on an iPhone.
Re:The forerunners of Facebook: an ode to the BBS on Tuesday September 20, 2011 @10:07PM (#3020421)
The man hours I've lost playing Doom and TradeWars on MBBSes could have fueled a few startups...
Re:Will program Ruby for food on Saturday September 17, 2011 @11:23AM (#3008215)
I'm getting a weird vibe from this. Maybe it's just the indentured servitude feel of it.
