Also I think I have a few things to be done by the time you get here and I'll come over in a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit
Re:Yandex Takes a Second Data Center Hit in 48 Hours on Friday October 09, 2026 @01:39PM (#50024049)
Behind the same defense systems as the refineries and Wildberries I'm sure.
Re:Yandex Takes a Second Data Center Hit in 48 Hours on Friday October 09, 2026 @01:32PM (#50023949)
Dudes still dead. People don't want to directly order stuff that will get them killed.
Well if you had a predictive surface you could have anticipated this product and already knew what it was.
Re:What should we tell our students? on Friday October 09, 2026 @12:50AM (#50016116)
A dark side of this is that a lot of unethical, deplorable, and amoral people who were otherwise occupied by jobs might suddenly have a lot more free time to make trouble instead of spending 1/3 of their day working for rent and food to survive.

Not needing to work is a neat future that might be ahead of us. But it could unlock some new negatives as well as positives.

Re:What should we tell our students? on Friday October 09, 2026 @12:48AM (#50016099)
I'm hearing "better" and "less" but not zero and none. The more interesting question is what happens when that rouge/hallucinating agent does commit that statistically unlikely fraud. Who is responsible then? Or is it now no low we just consider it an "accident", pay a small penalty, and move on?
Re:EV Sales Are Booming in Europe with Gasoline at $10 a Gallon on Sunday September 27, 2026 @10:49PM (#49872998)
Now imagine you have double the charging power yet have to drive less due to Europe's more compact nature
Re:"They had no concept of a duty of care to their users." on Sunday September 27, 2026 @02:19PM (#49869323)
To support you further, why would neovim users have any illusion there would be cross compatibility between undo files? Separate undo files seems the obvious and expected choice.
Re:The Mars Delusion on Sunday September 27, 2026 @01:53PM (#49869035)
Something nags at me the ideal mars astronaut would be more late 20s and 30s rather than 60/70.
Re:The new CC, an AI agent built for families on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @11:40PM (#49811372)
Any reason in particular this time?
Re:Stanford R&DE Uses AI to Race Swap Students for Advertising on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @11:30PM (#49811317)
I'm not sure why you say this. It's well known food is often very staged, and inedible substitutes often used in advertisements.

Do you want an advertising picture of a puddle of melted ice cream under hot studio lights?

And why would it be illegal for food?

Also telcos.
Hot or Not for the AI era eh?

Or is this the beginning of the AI Facebook?

Re:Custom home server built from spare parts on Sunday September 20, 2026 @12:55PM (#49777567)
Hmmm. Only fans Linux service running?
Re:Weeping whales: Stillborn humpback whale grieving documented on Sunday September 20, 2026 @03:20AM (#49773329)
I'll write the dissenting opinion that the models still aren't very good at planning rather it's the agentic harness and prompts thereof that are giving us better planning ability on long and larger tasks.
No, sorry. Promising to permanently delete data without doing it is the madness and should be illegal if it's not already. Hide the permeantly delete for privacy just a bit further and offer a soft delete to the user then for the normal case.
I'm not a fan of expanding surveillance but the alternative of unmonitored transit seems worse.

Going to shoot up a place? Take your guns on a waymo. It won't complain. Guy wants to take an obviously distressed and co-erced girl to an abandoned lot? No complaints. Person with obvious head injury and slurring speech wants to go home instead of the hospital? Sure. Person has heart attack and passes out in back? We'll just drive your limp body 45 minutes in traffic to your destination.

These are just a few situations any human driver would obviously react to. And a modicum of detection and human review could solve in an autonomous vehicle.

Re:The little holes in your bread are telling you something on Friday September 11, 2026 @03:44AM (#49654869)
Goodness thanks for taking a terrible article and getting to the point.
That's the pickle isn't it? AI solved it with human help. But it's standing on their shoulders. Neither AI nor the humans got it alone.

Humanity is better having solved this issue. But which humans were credited and benefited is the issue.

The world is pretty pissed at the u.s. and seeking sovereign models and ai. Richest or not if the companies are wise they will try a bit not to piss off the entire rest of the world. At this point many countries are willing to cut off the u.s. even if they take a short or medium term hit.
Re:Claude, change the "Add to Cart" button to blue on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @10:25PM (#49637592)
This is a succinct summary of most the the profession of software engineering. Just replace AI with "programmers".
Re:Claude, change the "Add to Cart" button to blue on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @10:22PM (#49637572)
Anyone remember the gpt-3 era where adding "this is important to my job" and "if this is wrong someone dies" to prompts made a measurable improvement in accuracy and reduced hallucinations?
Re:Claude, change the "Add to Cart" button to blue on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @01:49PM (#49630419)
The answer is genuinely yours
Crispr gene editing is an amazing and terrifying technology. We have the capability to edit people in permenant ways which could be passed to all future generations with unknown side effects and consequences.

I believe now we only have a shaky agreement by researchers and countries to "promise" not to do this due to the unforeseen dangers to humanity.

Re:Prompting Is Dead in 6 Months. Andrew Ng, Stanford [video] on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @01:28AM (#49605852)
The hardcore ai folks still assemble their instructions in prompts for best speed and control of the underlying model.
I don't consider meta too big to fail. If they go out of business the world can move on with minor disruption and inconvenience.
Re:The Browser's Main Thread Is Expensive on Thursday September 03, 2026 @01:18PM (#49553441)
I would think, or hope, a UI library like that could benefit from webpack and tree shaking such that only the needed components end up in the final bundle.
Re:The Post-AI Internet Doesn't Look Great on Thursday September 03, 2026 @04:25AM (#49547373)
The decision to copy-edit ai output is genuinely yours.
Re:Ask HN: Advice on Migrating from 1Password? on Thursday September 03, 2026 @04:17AM (#49547301)
Just encrypt your CSV after export with the tool of your choice.
Re:Norway Shrugged on Monday August 31, 2026 @09:05AM (#49509286)
That round G company with negative cashflow is probably employing people, buying goods and services, etc all within Norway. To say it's not generating economic value is disingenuous at best.
