Re:The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks on Monday November 02, 2026 @11:27AM (#50339260)
> You could write React components in a web framework on a completely different stack if you wanted

That doesn't make it a library.

Re:The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks on Monday November 02, 2026 @12:59AM (#50333579)
React "is a library" in the sense that it has primitives you can procedurally use like normal javascript, but in practice it definitely is used as framework with all the usual dogmas.
Re:Show HN: Steal My Bitcoin on Saturday October 24, 2026 @09:17PM (#50227241)
Really, your request log is empty for hours at a time? I find that hard to believe. Even old blog sites still get an insane amount of bot traffic. I have sites that are only barely in googles index and it’s pretty rare to see anything less than 1 req/s (99% bot traffic)
Re:PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35 out on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @10:44AM (#50181911)
I would think most people that are stuck on EOL PHP probably don't have a choice
Those don't seem like particularly lower class attributes, I know many trust fund babies that are jam band wooks/roadies that could be described this way.
Re:City building games have a Soul Problem pt.2 on Saturday October 03, 2026 @01:13PM (#49946012)

That's exactly what a city is though.

Re:Pi 1.0 on Friday October 02, 2026 @04:37PM (#49938314)
I'm using these tools in a professional capacity everyday just like you and everyone else and I 100% know they don't produce code that works perfectly out of the box. That's either horseshit, or your definition of working software and mine are very different.
Re:Pi 1.0 on Friday October 02, 2026 @02:42PM (#49937046)
> Did it have warts? It’s been working nearly flawlessly, but there have been a couple of really minor things. One of the things I realized quickly was that it didn’t have a WebFetch tool built in, so I prompted “add a webfetch tool” and it did it within 5 minutes. Warts are trivially fixed.

Sure, and then tomorrow it's compaction, then worktrees, then an annoying buffer scrolling bug, image clipboard handling, etc etc. I don't buy for a minute that a one-liner prompt creates a perfect program because I know from experience it doesn't. You are inheriting the maintenance of a non-trivial program. That's perfectly fine if you want to tinker and spend time on that but I would rather offload that to someone who wants to spend more time thinking about those problems than I do.

> Personally, I am getting frustrated with the amount of people trying to pitch me their tool they made. Tools are a dime a dozen. Share with me your ideas, and I’ll share with you mine, but I’m not gonna adopt your tool.

I'm not sure I follow this line of thinking. Obviously, juggler is the result of an author who has spent a great deal amount of time thinking about an idea. It is the manifestation of the author's ideas. I agree that the amount of vibe coded slop out there that people think is marketable is ridiculous, but Juggler doesn't really look like that. It's still worthwhile to evaluate well thought out tools IMO.

Re:Pi 1.0 on Friday October 02, 2026 @11:21AM (#49934529)
I think people vastly overestimate how hard it is to get a tool right even in the age of AI. Yes, it's very easy to get a throwaway tool done in a session. For anything above trivial complexity (like a coding harness) you will immediately notice warts with it.

It's true: with proper planning, thought, and focus, you might be able to generate enough code in one weekend to create a tool that is at parity with something like Pi - but chances are the amount of focus, planning, and thought is going to be greater than one weekend worth. And I don't know about you - but I don't really want to spend my weekend building a coding harness, I have other ideas and projects I'd rather execute.

Re:You Are No Longer Invited to Dinner on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @01:24PM (#49896936)
I am friends with and know disabled people that enjoy socializing, some far more than I do. I guess they never grew up.
Re:You Are No Longer Invited to Dinner on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @10:05AM (#49893536)
This is never a popular take but I think you completely nailed it. Anytime I see someone who has framed their world through the extrovert/introvert lens it's always done as justification for antisocial behavior. Lots of buzz phrases like "needing to recharge your batteries" while never admitting that socializing itself is a skill that needs practice to improve at so it doesn't feel like as much work.
My wife teaches middle school and during the pandemic a lot of kids were sending messages to each other via Google Docs and then deleting them. Unbeknownst to them was the revision history functionality (which I believe resulted in phone calls to a few students from the school principal)
Don't overthink it! `git bug bug` is fine - it's easy to type and becomes muscle memory quickly. Love the project, my first impression is "why hasn't this existed the entire time?" which usually means you're on to something.
Re:Claude Opus 5.5 on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @01:18PM (#49804773)
Mines pretty much inverted - my colleagues and I noticed almost zero difference between the quality of code in Opus vs Fable. Occasionally I'll switch to Fable for an arduous debugging task but that's about it.
Re:OpenAI Agents API on Friday September 11, 2026 @12:06AM (#49653419)
I'm very interested in this but I am confused on what Pi provides you if you are building the harness? What does Pi get you that writing from scratch doesn't?

Any good starting points or tutorials you recommend?

I never said I believed it was going to save us.
Re:Global warming will exceed 1.5-degree limit, UN says on Saturday September 05, 2026 @11:38AM (#49577572)
Yes they are, in the form of lobbying to remove subsidies and adding tax penalties to EV/solar purchases.
Re:Global warming will exceed 1.5-degree limit, UN says on Saturday September 05, 2026 @11:09AM (#49577301)
We’re so far past this, technology is 100% the only hope and always was. Getting stuck in the mentality that we can shame our way out of this for a decade was (and continues to be) a colossal waste of time.
Weird, I'm still using my M1 Pro and it feels just as fast as it always has. MacOS feels almost identical to me as it did 5 years ago, too, except the ugly icon change.

Re:Why Software Factories Fail on Thursday July 23, 2026 @04:35PM (#49027677)
I'm curious how that works - are you actually hand writing specs with RFC level detail yourself completely or is it more of an LLM assisted effort? It seems like writing a comprehensive spec manually would almost be as much (if not more) work than the implementation.
Re:Write code like a human will maintain it on Friday July 10, 2026 @11:32AM (#48861346)
I have tried prompting it out and providing strong guidelines in my AGENTS.md against it, but I still get _way_ too many useless "explain the code" style comments no matter how much I try. I usually have to do something like "Look at all commits in the past X days and remove (DO NOT TRIM) all comments that are not truly exceptional"

Normally when I can't get claude to follow a prompt I try a lint hook, but it's tough to lint something that subjective.

I find well described but concise acceptance criteria does a good job of anchoring the llm to the correct output. Also have them take screenshots of any UI work and respond to the ticket with them as proof.

I wonder if slight grammar incorrectness (like not capitalizing your sentences or using abbreviations) is going to start becoming a signal of authenticity for people subconsciously. Maybe it already has.
Re:The Website Specification on Sunday May 31, 2026 @10:15AM (#48345853)

Re:Spotify will start reserving concert tickets for fans on Thursday May 21, 2026 @07:21PM (#48230002)
Artist radios almost inevitably become a mix of songs I’ve listened to the most that have even the faintest crossover with the artist genre. It’s very, very frustrating and my biggest peeve about Spotify. I now ask an LLM for an artist radio playlist and copy it over to spotify, which is kind of a pain.
The rest of the world, presumably
I find the "self loathing american on the internet" act to be about as performative as putting a pink ribbon on your social media avatar after a shooting. It's not introspective in any meaningful way.
I know there’s a ton of resources out there for this sort of thing but is there any particular sites/books that stood out to you while learning?

Only on HN will your customers not only tolerate your product once you’ve reached market saturation and started enshittifying it, they’ll write you a whole guide on how to do it!
