News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

The whole ecosystem of companies trying to make a profit from each thing along the way isnt efficient. Other countries just nationalize instead
I think the point is not if the text can be interpreted charitably, but that the usage of AI text in what is intended for humans to read causes mistrust about where else corners could have been cut, on what is security-critical software
Are either of them a non-profit?

Probably not the greatest comparison - SLS was successful on the first launch
Re:Nixpkgs for the Front End Impaired on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:39PM (#50284302)

Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:31PM (#50278700)

Re:Tool book of a Nuremberg knight from 1505 on Sunday October 25, 2026 @11:26AM (#50232582)
Our job isnt to review the work of LLMs for free
Re:Tool book of a Nuremberg knight from 1505 on Sunday October 25, 2026 @11:24AM (#50232561)
Any amount of slop makes the whole thing feel fake
Re:Google's Rust Style Guide on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @09:23PM (#50189937)
With the ram shortage they could start by removing all the web-views that should have been native
Re:Meta's GB{2,3}00 Cluster on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @06:50PM (#50173778)

Re:NixOS is making me less afraid on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @10:16AM (#50166826)
Giving your LLM a copy of nixpkgs and a nix executable is really great for getting something workable
Re:Another day another GitHub incident on Monday October 19, 2026 @12:36PM (#50154515)
They need to cut back on the free tiers if it’s causing outages for paying customers
Re:The Fatal Flaw of 911 on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:27PM (#50124158)
I think theres a government organizational aspect, that in the US the police forces are often very small. If the forces we’re combining into larger units the specialization becomes economical.

As an example, in the state of New South Wales in Australia, its 1 police force organization for the whole state (8 million people)

The 1080ti support depreciation is a travesty. Its still plays games great. Makes it hard to justify future nvidia purchases for gaming rigs
Re:RFC8950: Announce IPv4 with an IPv6 next-hop on Friday October 16, 2026 @12:48PM (#50120853)
Running a IPv6-only network that doesn’t interact with IPv4 networks in any way is great and it works.

The actual gap is the mess of mixing/transitioning, and it wasnt planned properly in the last 30years

I dont need a whole rack, a single 1U gb300 tray is plenty
Seems easier to jerry-rig the watercooled ones honestly
Here is an example of an SXM2 adapter board to use a regular pcie slot

https://ebay.io/m/imDgiL

Lots of the newer stuff is watercooled

Yes they use pcie electrically, but its not the same slot shape and there is usually carrier boards

You wouldn’t repurpose these for home gaming, it would still be for llms

Re:New Apple TV 4K on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @10:55AM (#50072727)

Re:Intel D270 GPU AI Accelerator–Up to 480 GB LPDDR5X on Monday October 12, 2026 @10:06PM (#50065685)
Its wild to me that intel isnt trying significantly harder on gpus

Re:Why aren't AI companies being charged for hacking? on Monday October 12, 2026 @11:01AM (#50057414)

Re:Decade-old RAM is making a comeback on Sunday October 11, 2026 @11:57AM (#50044635)
We’re doing a similar thing now too, building tons of extra power capacity and links to data centers.

After the crash no one will need to build a new data center for 20 years, and there will be plentiful power connections

Re:Ubuntu now has official desktop images for RISC-V on Saturday October 10, 2026 @02:49PM (#50035891)
So when is compatible hardware going to be common?
Hopefully they add an option to atleast disable it

Or can we do it with a cli wrapper process?
