Re:Why wealth and patience appear to go hand in hand on Wednesday July 31, 2019 @12:47PM (#20575960)
Sample size N = 1 Conclusion: all poor people use cigarettes, lotto and alcohol and I dont like them in my neighbourhood.

How is saving $1000 a year going to help some poor person who lacks education, or opportunities?

Feels like this falls ln the infosec team. Our team has a scanner that parses all* logs for passwords and PII.

We know that the infosec team at Facebook was a second class citizen. So, its no surprise that this got through.

Re:California Restaurants Are Dying Due to High Labor Costs on Thursday March 21, 2019 @02:50AM (#19449705)
I feel like the restaurant where a server makes $44 ans these struggling restaurants are not the same. Feels unfair to make it seem like the greedy server is gouging the poor mom and pop when they already made $44.
Just curious. Why choose B&N over a local bookstore?
Re:Kidnapping insurance keeps a lid on ransom inflation on Wednesday May 30, 2018 @04:22PM (#17191399)
Why go for an unknown amount of money when you can kidnap someone with a guarnteed payout.
Re:Why people collect art on Sunday February 11, 2018 @12:25PM (#16353578)
"How to collect art in your 20's" -> get a loan

Was hoping for creative ways to identify rare pieces for cheap.

Current title is bait. New suggestion: Military officers strava data reveals previously unknown bases.

Re:Lyft Self-Driving on Monday December 25, 2017 @09:46PM (#16006764)
Who ever gets self driving down first can get as many cars are they want. Two scenarios:

"Let Uber drive you to work for free then pay you to use your car for the day. We'll cover the gas!"

"GM is happy to partner with Lyft to be the first self diving car! GM Good. GM Hip"

No because you buy for 15k from them and sell for 16k to someone somewhere else in the world
Nobody accepting a bribe plans on being caught. I expect this is a similiar case.

I am surprised by the lack of up front number crunching that he did, seeing as his previous job was as an analyst.
Depends if the spam was used to initially seed the hashtag or if it comes in after genuine discussion between real people.

To me it seems like two different cases that are easy to distinguish.

Re:The Uber Game: Can you make it in the gig economy? on Thursday October 12, 2017 @08:35PM (#15462516)
Its $1000 due in a week. $1000 a month. Also at the $3.77 and hour I profited its still not very attractive. 10 hours a day all month to earn just rent.
I think the thing that is less comical is that she had to work a minimum wage job and juggle homelessness while going to college.

Difficult to graduate in 4 with those challenges

Re:Amazon cuts Whole Foods prices on Thursday August 24, 2017 @09:20PM (#15095437)
They get a wealth of data for free though so 0% profit or marginal loss is still great for them.

Re:Trump CEO Strategy Council Is Said to Disband After Exodus on Wednesday August 16, 2017 @01:58PM (#15029615)
I wonder what effect the council had on him. Did he ever take them seriously?
Re:The Token Effect on Wednesday August 16, 2017 @01:42PM (#15029485)
It takes 0 time to use a fake email
Is it just a claim though? It seems quite factual
Re:Why some of the best developers keep quitting on Wednesday August 09, 2017 @01:17AM (#14965740)
Sounds like its time to switch companies. If you are being dodged by the CEO like this you are unlikely to be a benefactor of goodwill in the future

Re:Ask HN: Fear? on Sunday August 06, 2017 @01:25PM (#14942270)
If you are scared of technical projects being stolen document all your learnings and store code on git.

Everything is timestanped and proved you were there first maybe?

They seem to draw a line between men and women because of "biological differences".

I wonder what they think about affirmative action for men of different races.

What about users who chat and leave but get help planning their wedding through the app?
The reason hedgefunds look at satellite images and oil tankers is because everyone looks at sequential ids and price changes so that doesn't give an edge.
All the tireless self promotion on these type of posts in your downtime seems exhausting though
Re:Ask HN: What do people use to prevent crawlers? on Sunday July 23, 2017 @11:23PM (#14835664)
Very curious about this type of work. Is there is a good way to contact you to discuss this topic?

Sexual harassment is not a very civil approach either.

She states that she was inspired to share her experience (with photographic evidence) base on accounts of other women coming forward in a similiar manner.
