Definitely worth chatting with your manager. Sometimes an internal move is all it takes get on a career path you are excited about
I wonder if Apple would be wary of the regulatory attention that might attract.
They probably just readjust their currency hedges
So many companies have flatlined after a new CEO took over, think Microsoft after Ballmer took over. So I think there is some difficulty involve.
Thousands seems high for the largest company in the world with potentially the most complex supply chain ever assembled. And that doesn't even mention the political issues that need to be navigated.
Your choices I imagine are the other Apple executives and the CEO of another International technology and/or manufacturing (potentially) company.
It's a very interesting topic, but clearly the investors/board got what they wanted so they are giving him the payout. It was tied to a goal and they got that goal. So presumably the people paying are happy to pay him that amount.
Would he have reached/pushed for a particularly aggressive goal for less? Could someone else have achieved that goal for less?
No doubt there is some element of personal relationships between everyone in the compensation committee and the ceo.
In distributed databases that offer transaction semantics, they need timestamps to order transactions that take place. A tighter synchronization of clocks mean they can execute transactions faster because they can reduce the amount of time they wait (based on the potential clock drift between machines in the data center)
Internet search algorithms are bit of an adversarial competition against bad content, no? Given the amount of money at stake for beating the search algorithm, shouldn't we expect any search engine to decline in usefulness over time?
The problem gets harder and harder as the trash gets more SEO
Retention of very senior people really comes down to those people and their personal reasons. I don't think it's a group of people who all want the same thing, so it's impossible to make a general retention plan.
And realistically, the reason you want them to stay is because they are someone who has figured out how to operate and impact the organization without needing too much guidance
or direction.
But I think it's why there are all the generic lifestyle perks and competition for titles like "Best Place To Work".
My question is would Copilot be useful if you could choose the codebase it would be drawing from? Almost as an internal company tool?
From the about page:
Objective-S is an architecture-oriented programming language based loosely on Smalltalk and Objective-C. It currently runs on macOS, iOS and Linux, the latter using GNUstep.
By allowing general architectures, Objective-S is the first general purpose programming language.
What we currently call general purpose languages are actually domain specific languages for the domain of algorithms.

It's hard to measure the long term financial impact of irradiated soil
Presenting both options on equal terms is hard to measure, Apple is calling it "Tracking" when other (Facebook's) advertising networks do it, but they are calling it "Personalized Ads" when their advertising network does it.
Apple doesn't mind if users turn off the data feed to Facebook, but obviously they don't want users disabling the same data feed to their advertising network.
Advice to cut sugar and alcohol consumption would go against the lobbyists for the most powerful industries, right?
I think the parts that are right are not those that coincide with industry interests but those that go against industry interests. Those parts are probably directionally correct but have softened language due to lobbying.
Keeping and maintaining that excitement for self-driven learning is the most challenging part.
Exactly- people don't/can't really comparison shop when it comes to medical procedures. They don't know how good their doctors are at it, this is all unpublished information.
Similarly college textbooks- if your professors assigns work from their book, then you need that book. You can't competitively shop on that.
As the response points out, all of these groups and then backed by accreditation systems to limit new entrants.
This article seems to be saying the rich are leaving New York. And the world that caters to them (expensive restaurants, etc.) is suffering. This is true.
But as you say falling rents offer more opportunities for the culture and lifestyle aspects of the city.
Also, this post rattles off a bunch of negatives, but fails to offer any alternative to rival NYC. South Florida or Phoenix? Maybe one, but certainly not yet.
I haven't seen gitbook before, is this a common tool for documentation?
It's about monopolization. Should a company be able to vertically integrate and install a toll booth to profit off of all developers on their platform? Or does that hurt consumers more than it would hurt businesses to separate that power?
