This is a great list of current, and archival, interface guidelines: http://www.geofcrowl.com/blog/articles/2020/2/17/collection-...

I bet you can find it, or something similar, there.

Absolutely. It would be interesting to know what information was in this database. It doesn't make sense that it was just a list of people. Did it include known connections? Other medical information? Travel history? And why/how was it being used?

Giving the user clear feedback about where they are in a page and how to modify their location should not "increase cognitive noise". It should in fact offload cognitive load from the user onto the interface leaving more room, so to speak, for the user to use for themselves.

This is a great bread, btw.

I use a simpler version, but very similar.

I like to roll it (or just coat the bottom) in seeds or cornmeal to prevent sticking, rather than dealing with parchment, oil, etc.

Of course it has an impact. But it is likely not a dominant one or we'd have experienced the housing crises we're seeing now, long ago.
The number of immigrants admitted to Canada per year is very stable and only slowing rising. On average it has been between 200-300 thousand per year for at least the past 20 years. This is not the driving force of lack of housing, and is a driving force of a stronger economy with the introduction of skilled labour.

A great deal of our forests are not "natural forests" anymore, and are mono-cultures that may be even more susceptible to issues of climate change (forest fire, pine beetle, ...). Managed (young) forests also hold less carbon than mature forests.

What I've been hearing is that one of the problems with Canada's "managed" forests is the reduction (in BC, at least) of deciduous trees which apparently can act as firebreaks [1]. BC (and the pacific northwest in general) has seen a steady increase in the length and damage caused by the fire season. It is April and we are already battling large fires in the province.

Re:Women: Learn to Program This Summer on Saturday March 23, 2019 @01:25PM (#19471348)
Providing money to attend this kind of program is awesome, but there are many people who, despite having expenses paid, still could not afford to take advantage of this kind of program. The more financially stable you are, the more likely you would be able to drop your life for x weeks to take advantage of this kind of program. Its not that what she is doing is "helping rich people more", but it will still favour them.
Since this is parental leave we're discussing, would you make the same judgements when considering hiring a young man and only hire contractors that don't get the protection of labour laws?
Re:A Self-Learning, Modern Computer Science Curriculum on Tuesday January 29, 2019 @03:42PM (#19029626)
Agreed! Also missing HCI, Systems Analysis... But a good start, nonetheless.
Some more (helpful) suggestions: For two meals I'd love to pick which meals, because I prefer eating a late breakfast and dinner, and the meal options seem to be dependent on the type of meal. Ability to limit sugar amounts (or carbohydrates) without limiting to paleo or no wheat. Being able to nix certain things (like protein shakes, not my thing). I know that you can just refresh, but I'd rather be able to veto something all together. But great work!
Re:GoDaddy to suspend domain name Gab.com tomorrow on Sunday October 28, 2018 @10:47PM (#18324660)
As a private (non-govermental) organization, GoDaddy isn't bound to providing free speech to anyone. Gab.com is welcome to keep gabbing on someone else's platform.
I'm sorry, why do you think how these things are categorized matters in this context? In the workplace all of these things can be inappropriate, and should not be taken lightly.

Catcalling is an inappropriate way to show sexual interest, especially in the workplace. Sexual harassment is a legally defined term in most places, and is not just showing an interest, it is harassment. I hope we can agree that sexual demands for career advancement is not just sexual interest, and neither is rape.

A person's sexual interest is theirs. When they chose to share that interest with another person in the workplace they better carefully gauge their position of power, and the appropriateness of the context. They should also respond in a mature and appropriate way if the interest is not appreciated or reciprocated.

You should also be careful how you throw around the term "hysteria" https://www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/history-quackery/history-h... as it is a loaded phrase
