Re:Apple Keynote now showing ads in its UI on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:35PM (#50090500)
How much did you pay for keynote?
Re:Apple Keynote now showing ads in its UI on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:34PM (#50090459)
It's ever so slightly disingenuous to call this "showing ads": It appears to be letting you know about a paid DLC for the app you are running not "this space is for sale".

That said, I don't think it's even a slippery slope from here to "this space for sale".

And just like that my investment gets more valuable.
Re:Zoom is now Chrome only on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @01:23AM (#48988349)
Works fine on safari + ios27 beta.
I was until new corp rules prevented me from using personal devices.
Re:Why the heck are we still using Markdown? on Saturday April 04, 2026 @08:49AM (#47638619)
Textile was better, but less popular IIRC
Re:Apple introduces the new iPad Air, powered by M4 on Monday March 02, 2026 @09:51AM (#47218684)
Heavier than the iPad Pro. Again. Still.
Re:Poker Tournament for LLMs on Tuesday October 28, 2025 @11:54AM (#45734494)
Who is live-streaming the hand history with running commentary?
Re:Ruby Core Takes Ownership of Rubygems and Bundler on Saturday October 18, 2025 @11:55AM (#45628309)
This is satisfactory news. Now we can all get back to coding.
Re:Vectrex Mini on Friday October 10, 2025 @08:57AM (#45538480)
Kickstarter? No thanks. But good luck.
Re:Ruby 3.5 Feature: Namespace on read on Monday May 12, 2025 @12:09PM (#43964588)
Ew. No.
Re:Ceasing Print Publication of ACM Journals and Transactions on Saturday October 28, 2023 @12:20PM (#38050998)
+1 for reading on iPad. Especially the 12.9”. Not sure it’ll replace my eInk reader for pulp fiction, but for technical materials, it’s usually more convenient than going to my shelf to grab a physical book.
Re:Factorio for Nintendo Switch is now available on Friday October 28, 2022 @01:57PM (#33374885)
Has there been any word of a physical cartridge release?
Re:Patreon laid off their security team on Thursday September 08, 2022 @07:06PM (#32773252)
Patreon requires you to "submit your account for deletion" to close your account.

> Starting July 2020, Patreon no longer offers the previous “disable” feature. To close a Patreon account, users must submit their account for deletion through our Privacy center.

Re:Apple Removes SIM Card Tray on All iPhone 14 Models in U.S. on Wednesday September 07, 2022 @04:39PM (#32756493)
Additional anecdata: My iPhone 12 -> iPhone 13 upgrade smoothly transferred the eSIM as well.
Looks like everyone is rushing to check their storage.

> something went wrong while loading usage details

On my free group’s storage page.

Re:How Duke Nukem II’s parallax scrolling worked on Friday July 15, 2022 @11:21AM (#32109051)
A couple of those could be considered "inspired by" if you (a) squint and (b) ignore all the examples that are clearly the same ;)

I played the duke nukem 1 & 2 shareware _back in the day_ but I missed out on Turrican thanks for sending me down this rabbit hole.

Could be neat. Lots of "This part of the documentation is not ready yet."
Re:Notion Acquires Cron on Thursday June 09, 2022 @05:57PM (#31687441)
I discovered cron looking for a way to manage my "two DayJob calendars with 85% duplicate events but 15% unique events".

Specifically since I was annoyed at getting 2 notifications for every event that was duplicated on both calendars.

And cron actually solved that problem by automagically recognizing duplicate events and only notifying once. I turned off all notifications in calendar.app.

The only other differentiating feature I am aware of is how configurable the menu bar app is.

Thankfully, I no longer have the original problem + I don't like things in my menu bar so I'm probably switching back to the built in app.

Re:Sunsetting Atom on Wednesday June 08, 2022 @11:29AM (#31668809)
It took longer than I expected.
They also push features down into lower cost tiers pretty regularly.

I don’t think either of your statements is true.

In fact, I think that gitlab’s very open development process is a strong reason to recommend them over available alternatives.

Never used gittyup but last time I tried the github desktop app was years behind gittower in terms of functionality & features provided.

If you’re earning money developing software but refuse to pay for tools, in my personal and not at all humble opinion, you’re part of The Problem.

This looks neat, but I don’t see anything off hand that will pull me away from my current git tower + kaleidoscope ~rut~ workflow.

In particular, the drag & drop rebase support in tower is very convenient. Kaleidoscope is capable of all kinds of diffing but the text conflict resolution is probably the feature that I use the most.

Re:Stripe Financial Connections on Wednesday May 04, 2022 @05:51PM (#31266323)
Yeah, giving out my banking authentication info is a hard nope for me & I discourage everyone I know from using or implementing anything using plaid.
Re:AppleCensorship on Thursday April 21, 2022 @09:17PM (#31117160)
I worry that will just encourage this practice since "it worked, we got feedback"?
The most common thing I see is companies emailing me after I've asked them not to. In that case I just disable that site specific email and move on.
Re:GitHub: Private Profiles beta on Thursday April 21, 2022 @09:07PM (#31117106)
Same. As soon as I made my profile private github.com started 500ing for me. It seems like none of the other pages I've hit are affected.

Edit: Spoke a little soon, my profile page is also 500 when logged out.
