+1. I saw the 2025 suffix and fact that it was on the original domain and hoped they released a v2 to carry us through the world of Platform Engineering, Observability 2.0, Kubernetes vs Serverless, etc.
Yeah even the shorter lengths (thicker) are way more complacent than I expected.

I’m slowly replacing every cable in the house and cars. I’m up to 7 and counting.

You’re thinking of TB4 which only requires 40Gbps.

TrueSpec cables that advertise 40Gbps work fine as TB4 cables.

TB5 is 80Gbps so TrueSpec isn’t capable.

How is the performance of their newer APs?

That was always what was holding me back from switching off a 2.5GbE / WiFi 7 UniFi stack.

Re:Phone is about to stop being yours on Wednesday April 29, 2026 @06:41AM (#47946465)
So you mean, Macs and macOS?

All modern devices are appliances, not computers.

They perform the specific functions that they were programmed to perform, and do not allow arbitrary execution of calculations on the underlying hardware.

Many people, mostly folks who adopt the Apple ecosystem, see this as a positive thing that allows them to delegate undifferentiated decisions on security and ways of working to the vendor.

I am one of those people and hope that Android remains open so that people don't expect Apple open up their hardware, which will result in fragmentation.

Re:Track which Electron apps slow down macOS 26 Tahoe on Saturday October 04, 2025 @06:20AM (#45472254)
Because they value secure devices. Apple don’t backport _all_ security patches.
FWIW I am Australian and we have a similar adoption rate of cashless payments.

If a merchant tries to promote cash options I immediately think they’re doing it for tax evasion reasons - not because of the touted reason that “card payments cost more to process” (they don’t once you factor in the cost of handling cash).

Re:Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 Incident on July 14, 2025 on Wednesday July 16, 2025 @08:25AM (#44581463)
Yeah part of the reason why APNIC granted Cloudflare access to those very lucrative IPs is to observe the misconfiguration volume.

The theory is CF had the capacity to soak up the junk traffic without negatively impacting their network.

You’d be better off comparing it to Quad9 based on performance, privacy claims, and response accuracy.
Re:Switching to Claude Code and VSCode Inside Docker on Sunday July 13, 2025 @06:28AM (#44549165)
If you commit the .devcontainer.json and associated files your whole team gets a consistent, local-feeling, environment for free.

Containerisation solved the "Works on my machine" gap between local and prod. This is just solving for the same gap between Dev 1 and Dev 2.

Re:Exposing a web service with Cloudflare Tunnel on Saturday July 12, 2025 @08:08PM (#44546335)
Being banned from Cloudflare would break my personal email (they’re the registrar) and portfolio site.

So, yes.

Maybe it would be different if you were exclusively using it as a tunnel service.

What model do your lawyers run on?
This is made and maintained by the same guy who made NextDNS, a Netflix CDN expert.

They know how to make low latency distributed network applications, but it isn't their day job and the pace of development of both Next and this shows it.

I’d love to watch a video of this playing out.

How exactly do you write/test your code on free hardware?
Threads is this now. API is almost finished / ready for release.
This experience always shocks me because it’s not aligned with my own.

Even on Twitter I never saw that junk. I followed almost exclusively tech folk, AWS community heros, NodeJS developers, Architects and Platform Engineers.

I’m not even a developer, but I followed them to be exposed more to that topic.

As a result, my feed was 99.9% technical content and product management content.

I got the same result in under an hour with Threads too - just mute every. Single. Thing. That you don’t want to see for an hour and then kill and re-launch the app. You’ll never see politics again.

Re:iMessage Key Verification on Thursday December 21, 2023 @07:15AM (#38719479)
That’s just good UI design. Make complex stuff look dead simple.
Re:BBC Gives Up on Threads (By Instagram), Sticks with Mastodon on Thursday October 05, 2023 @07:33AM (#37777265)
This was happening to me too (Instagram but same thing); it’s pretty easy to fix.

Ultimately it is because I wasn’t using Instagram actively enough so the algorithm defaulted to Late 20s Male profiling.

Spend 2-5 minutes selecting the posts you don’t want to see and training the algorithm.

Instagram: Press and hold on items on the search tab and select “not interested”. To give it your actual interests, search for a few things like Golf, Cars, etc.

Threads: Select the three dots on posts and choose “Hide”. Same as Instagram, search for a few generic topics you prefer.

Massively better results as soon as the next day.

I want threads to work so badly compared to Twitter that I’ve happily just written a guide to train Metas algorithm. That’s how badly Twitter has dropped the ball.

Proven experience doing exactly that, time and time again, affords you the opportunity to do it at the highest levels for the greatest rewards.
Re:Threads, an Instagram App on Tuesday July 04, 2023 @06:17AM (#36584626)
The logo is an @ with a very strange choice of typeface.

Probably a nod to the @username format that Twitter made so popular.

Re:Twitter now requires an account to view tweets on Friday June 30, 2023 @08:08PM (#36544460)
Do you have some examples of these lists?

I’ve wanted to do something similar to Mastodon where you can follow hashtags.

Sounds like you might have solved that?

To the OP, Private Relay is more than just tracker blocking it is a full-on VPN service that operates similar to an Onion router / TOR connection

Do a “what’s my IP” when it is enabled and you’ll see either a Cloudflare or Akamai IP.

As somebody who last night got an Apple stem out of their daughter's lightning port using a SIM card ejector tool, I'm torn. You can't do that (safely) with USB-C because of the female plug design.
Then you're doing it wrong. I have never bought a dongle in my life, but I _have_ replaced cables with ??? to USB-C variants.

- Micro USB to USB-C

- HDMI to USB-C

- DisplayPort to USB-C

- Mini USB to USB-C (that was tough to find!)

Literally everything plugs into my laptop natively without a dongle.
