bro you responding to Matthew Garret. I don't want to defend either of you two but you set the bar pretty low.
Scapegoating also produces the pattern of only one symptomatic child. Or a invasive surgery. So, who knows.

In supportive environments you'll be able to tell the difference, by-birth conditions do not heal, while trauma will start healing off in a painful process that is somewhat comparable to peeling layers off an onion.

CPTSD is inheritable by child rearing. Thats what makes trauma intergenerational. Runs through families like cluster B disorders.

Edit: I think in practice this looks like normalisation of neglect and violence within a family.

The distinction might be useful for determining whether to prescribe stimulants. People with CPTSD should not get those.
> CPTSD literally rewires your brain and "appears" in diagnostic tests as ADHD

This seems unexpectedly one-sided to me. It could equally be that ADHD is CPTSD from something that current knowledge does not consider traumatic (yet).

I did not see environmental factors in your consideration.

I got ADHD and Autism diagnosed as teen, the diagnostic was rather solid. Got methylphenidate for some months. I ran away from home with 17, i moved together with my girlfriend (at 26) into an emotionally stable environment and... the symptoms disappeared. No jactation, no special interests, no masking. Everything just disappeared. A bit of stimming remains. And a horribly fucked up sleep cycles.

Had undiagnosed RAD and CPTSD for longer than i'm self-aware. Severe emotional neglect for my first 17 years. Parental rejection plays a big part in here.

I'd be like, maybe i'm just a special case, and nothing of this applies to other people. But i see other ADHD-havers being too similar to me, and that includes hypervigilance and silent walking, which are apt adaptions to certain kind of childhood environments.

Maybe too much gets diagnosed as ADHD that is not genetic at all...

The point is that disabling swap does not prevent page eviction. Instead of swap, this discussion should be about the page cache.

Congrats on your safe childhood.
Can't be really strict with the dates, the generation thing is cultural and depends on the time and environment of your socialisation.
60 years ago you might have ended up in a psychiatric hospital without getting effective treatment, mental health issues were stigmatized and the incentive to seek out help was low. People used to just live a miserable life with their issues.

Nowadays knowledge about mental health issues is widespread in the population, somewhat normalized and leading to people seeking help.

I consider it realistic that depression did not actually increase, its just more people showing up in the statistics.

Not a backdoor, but a documented CPU feature.

The whitepaper about rosenbridge cannot be published because it would constitute scientific fraud.

math never was a science to begin with.

Probably the average CoC enforcement.

It's gnome. You will have a developer explain to you how your usecase is invalid.
Re:I'm Tired of Talking to AI on Wednesday May 27, 2026 @07:42AM (#48292746)
You had an good, psychologically plausible explanation for some individuals to over-rely on AI and... dismissed it and called them stupid. Adults are not special, they are mostly kids that got older.

zero improvement on end-user experience. does not solve supply chain issues, debian package will reproducabily contain the malware from upstream.

The main advantage of certificates is that you are able to do that from the CA without touching the target machine.

I'm in favor of having society overrule you. NAT is a horrible kludge and not okay. Never was.

> where every person alive is an abuse survivor of varying seriousness

An odd way to frame it but probably true.

> which will bring us right back to ignoring people who need help

That does not follow - if the environmental sources are known, people (especially teachers and social workers) can look out for them and take measures to improve the outcome for the child. And this is what I'm seeing right now.

See it on a societal scale - for the same effort put into raising kids, you get more functional adults.

Re:When Do We Become Adults, Really? on Sunday March 29, 2026 @08:45AM (#47562726)
I'm not saying these 3 linked issues are caused by childhood trauma, but that they are diagnosed because of the overlap of symptoms.

This is vaguely among experts (for autism and emotional instability): https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11724683

This is not ruling out a causal link in the opposite direction, that autism increases vulnerability to traumata.

And while researching case reports on child abuse, i couldn't help to notice that many cases do - indeed - start with an autism diagnosis and only escalate later, example: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11886450/

While its true that parents don't cause autism... they can surely cause the diagnosis. Extra bad because it delays appropriate treatment.

Re:When Do We Become Adults, Really? on Sunday March 29, 2026 @05:49AM (#47561724)
Child abuse might be a large driver behind dysfunctionality in adulthood, with disability or early retirement as a consequence. There were some big child neglect cases around the millennium, since them, the topic got more attention from researchers.

It used to be that traumatised kids got slapped with a ADHD, autism and/or borderline diagnosis and it got called a day. These are "that's just how you are" style diagnoses. Since 2018 there is CPTSD which finally connects the symptoms to how you got treated as a child. The denial phase is over.

Lawmakers are a bit behind, as usual, but at this point the scale of the problems can't be denied anymore. Its too late for you and me, but I'm optimistic for future generations.

Re:Hardware hotplug events on Linux, the gory details on Friday March 06, 2026 @06:27AM (#47273655)
ModemManager used to open() and probe every tty device attached to the system. I had a 8-channel relay card with an arduino nano wired up with my desk to control the lights and disco ball, interfaced with a custom ascii-based serial protocol. connecting it to an ubuntu machine (where modemmanager was active in the default install) turned the 2nd or 3rd channel on.

This was generally infuriating, there are many arduino forum posts about modemmanager messing up DIY setups.

Upstream fix was changing modemmanager to work on a whitelist / opt-in approach instead of blacklist / out-opt. My fix was to switch to debian.

Re:DOS Memory Management on Tuesday March 03, 2026 @07:26AM (#47231353)
Its not just good, its the maximum you can get with MS-DOS. The remaining 3 kb are the interrupt table, the BDA and the IO.SYS stub.

This was detailed in Geoff Chapells "DOS Internals". I loved that book.
