"we are going to end up as sone kin of perverted global theocracy"

hate to break it to you, but it already has been that for around a hundred years or so

Re:Proton's CEO Cancels AI 'Re-Interviews' on Friday October 30, 2026 @10:27PM (#50312670)
man, and a hundred years later after they get 1917'd there will be an outcry for those "innocent benevolent leaders, who were hated just for their success"

language and social structure is actually the best part of Anathem
uhhh

given that both warring parties are in top-10 military spending in the world with more or less peer budgets dedicated to the war, peer stats on basically every war aspect like casualties, recruiting rates etc I fail to see the exact mechanism of why the corruption rates should be different

>tend to prevent some of the usual corruption

not really, the corruption is quite rampant in both warring armies and especially in drone manufacturers (look up national anti-corruption invesrigation into FirePoint as an example)

war and all matters adjacent are just the perfect ground for breeding corruption as there is too much entropy and handwaving opportunity at the same time

Re:How employment is changing at Anthropic on Sunday October 18, 2026 @08:28AM (#50140498)
I hope they understand that those "essays" are long past due date of being remotely interesting.

it was interesting in the beginning when there was technical substance, but now its just techno-bros vision of deep thoughts

I'd say the image of public acceptance is somewhat manufactured by media, as it is coming from the US where people, especially in power, still actually believe in religious stuff and also, sadly, control or at least largely influence the world's media

us, the general public, is more or less atomized and the whole idea of it existing, but having an opinion outside "those who know" is precisely the way they manufacture it, thus people may believe all they want, but think that it is common knowledge that Israel can commit crimes due to victimhood in the past etc - nobody needs to believe this, only to think that others do

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:19PM (#50124027)
the difference here being that hypercars actually exist in the real world
Re:I paid people to try and follow my README on Monday October 12, 2026 @04:25AM (#50053169)
finally someone mentioned this

I wholeheartedly hate that useless infantile names are so normalised in software industry, even libraries are as such, which at some point makes it just insane

don't you find it a little bit too pretentious to write off the majority of people into "braindead" categories?

"cortex-disabling", what a quote

Re:September 2026: The world today, as seen by one Polish guy on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @11:52AM (#49910574)
>but it has proved that Russia is weak

not really, I think.

To stop the advance and drag it into positional warfare whole europe had to scrape for surplus arms, US provides a ton of munitions and guidance, the financial burden carried by the EU is absolutely insane - Ukarine's military budget is 40% of its GDP excluding direct military aid, etc.

Of course the war didn't go as to RF's regime boasting, but of all things it actually proved that the regime is not to be underestimated - they are very flexible, can adapt well and are very fast at adopting technology into the field.

I mean, we know now that they are not as powerful as they marketed - but the only other country who has engaged in a direct war with a peer adversary is Ukraine, and we don't know how prepared every other country is in practice.

I wish all the best for Poland and Polish people, but I don't think we should hedge our bets on nation-states and the situation around that going forth in 21st century

as with other large-scale technologues, the danger is not in the model itself, but in the person who runs it - and those are completely unreliable
Re:Jensen Huang says AI distillation is 'competition.' on Monday September 28, 2026 @05:19PM (#49884524)
its good it says "jensen huang says" so we instantly know its not worth reading

David Ellison, as in the same Ellison as Larry?

oh god oh no

uhhh... capitalism

Re:Why is the liver so weirdly regenerative? on Friday September 25, 2026 @07:48AM (#49843281)
>flower in your brain all on their own

almost like... cancer itself

nah, CEO-s have been getting a legal pass since the invention of corporation exactly for the purpose of being "unaccountable"

check boeing for example, a rather blatant example

Re:Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf] on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @10:30PM (#49620096)

silly LLM, so ruthless in its pursuit that it puts real pressure on the innocent and the most open company on the planet

Re:Why AI-generated slopaganda works on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @09:52AM (#49610370)
not much substance in the article, sadly. There really needs to be some solid evidence on the mechanism and causes - which would be very interesting and a great opportunity for a follow-up.
Re:Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf] on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @08:04AM (#49609176)
at first I thought your post was a bit revolting with "have you read ToS?" bit, but in the end I completely agree and understand

I also don't get why it was downvoted, other than due to people not reading past the first sentence - although in the modern world's attention deficit that is understandable too

great comment, just wanted to add a little: all three countries were pioneering rocketry in the 20-30s, more or less in equal measure.

I don't know why this WW2 rocket discussion happened to begin with, but people here don't seem to understand that there is no magical inherent technical skill which is unique and irreplaceable. Experience helps to speed things up, sure, but it can be acquired by any program given time and resources, with no talent blockers.

For anyone actually unfamiliar with history, this is a gross exaggregation made with a sole purpose of equalizing nazi crimes with what happened in the soviet union.

History does not work this way, in the early modernity masses were cohesive and industrialized, and so were the crimes and atrocities.

Every developed country got to it, but what makes nazis different is that the regime was built with the sole purpose of commiting atrocities, hence the outstanding scale and character of the matter.

Plesetsk is also european soil.
Re:Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board on Friday September 04, 2026 @02:54PM (#49568638)
exactly, and a huge shame this scam has been forgotten. Also, all the OpenClaw hype seemed to have vanished somewhere - with no real impact
Re:Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board on Friday September 04, 2026 @02:51PM (#49568586)
again, that does not matter until we know how much resources those supposed agents spent

with enough tokens and compute those cases are somewhat trivial, and we also don't know what was the setup etc etc

for all we know it might have burned through 3 trains of coal running on prompt like "uhhh you know communicate but dont let me catch you ahaha"

should've made nice cars instead T_T
good riddance

Re:The weekend is 100 years old on Monday August 17, 2026 @10:54AM (#49332077)
"Ford did not invent the weekend – the idea had been bubbling under for a century, in campaigns by trade unions, religious groups and progressive employers – but by putting his considerable industrial weight behind it, the two-day chunk of freedom was born."

I have not seen a passage more ignorant of the history of class struggle in a long while

You know, "the idea was bubbling", wonder why it never got implemented until 1926? Maybe the work day was not always 8 hours too? What a marvel!

Re:London Underground begins scanning passengers' faces on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @10:33AM (#49272998)
the definition of "wanted suspects" is the key here, with proper legal loopholes everyone is a suspect, and everyone is wanted
