I was tutoring math last year to high schoolers; I had one student who was receiving B’s in math at her public high school, and she could not do -4 times 1 or correctly answer 2 divided by 2.

This is entirely AI written; clearly, this author is so busy that they now need to delegate their writing to AI, too!

Rent seeking is pretty ugly. I think Tao’s perspective is nuanced here, but calls to prevent OpenAI from making new discoveries by the AHM are sad to see.

This is the labor theory of value; consumers don't care if the code is hand-made, they want the cheap goods (software) that are the output.

you could fetch the text from linked blog posts over time and run 'em through pangram, I bet >20% of blogs linked on HN today are totally LLM written

Yeah, I find the notion that human judgement is superior to algorithmic judgement to be pretty suspect… look at Jens Ludwig’s work on judges, it’s not like involving a human improves outcomes somehow

I agree with you that most humans are trustworthy, but fraudulent actors will build trust with counterparties on your marketplace and then abscond.
"Personally meeting with them" does not prevent a "long firm" from skipping town with the proceeds from a $6m order later.
I think what you guys are building is awesome, just gotta be really really careful with fraud and trust when building a marketplace in particular.

I’m very curious about how you’re fending off fraud— just wondering about how a lot of dark web transactions supposedly have escrow, but people waive it and then get burned. Do you have anything beyond KYC/escrow?

Regardless of your personal feelings about AI, this is pretty clumsy regulation that will just cause Tiebout sorting away from NY. If there are negative externalities, tax 'em, use the proceeds for some feel-good social programming, and let the data center builders internalize the costs...

The OP article is also just so, so obviously AI slop... if you're already thinking "this is probably AI" and pangram thinks the same, that's fairly damning.

You're making a strong statement about the counterfactual here; how could you know? Clearance rates for most crimes in the US are abysmal, the expected outcome for most crimes is "unsolved."

This is straight up AI generated economic disinformation. Are you seriously claiming that computers cost more in real terms today than 20 years ago?? Some of these goods (housing) do cost more, but a lot of these examples don't make any sense.

Companies soliciting big bounties should charge a fee to submit, making slop costly. Steam, the video game publisher, does this. Developers need to pay a fee to list their game, and if their game sells sufficient volume, the fee is returned. Creating a separating equilibrium here is not hard, the hand wringing is weird to me.
