You know some boomer typed the comment when you read “Marxist talking points”. Jeez, people really have no idea what Marx’s propositions were, right?

Also: how is “more vacation time” a bad thing? US working culture is so toxic people think workers don’t deserve more leisure time. No wonder people start looking for alternatives to capitalism

Re:Lets talk about how NFTs are a giant scam on Thursday October 14, 2021 @05:38PM (#28870518)
Sure, do you know anything about NFTs from the side of the artist and what they have to do to get a token for their pieces? Seems like you don't. Educate yourself first, young boy.
Re:What if performance advertising is just an analytics scam? on Wednesday October 13, 2021 @10:16PM (#28859838)
If you discredit the article's argument by the headline, what's the point? Everyone may do exactly that to your comment and opinion: at first glance it did not inspire me as worthy of my attentive reading time.

C'mon, this ain't reddit. Don't comment without reading.

Re:What if performance advertising is just an analytics scam? on Wednesday October 13, 2021 @10:13PM (#28859815)
This comment is obviously false, but its children comments are on the same level as reddit threads -- pre-made, repetitive, joke-like one liners that add nothing to the discussion.

Yeh but sometimes what people value and like is a scam. You know, some people do like certain MLM brands or even cults, that doesn’t mean those aren’t scams/cults. Stop trying to normalize predatory behavior and institutions under the banner of “people value different things”
That’s just your opinion in a sea of people saying the opposite. Sometimes we just have to accept we didn’t understand something, man. No need to be salty about it ;)

Plus, several other art pieces fit into your generic, superficial description of “gore, intriguing and foreign”.

Re:The latest campus cancellation is different on Sunday October 10, 2021 @04:51PM (#28821865)
Maybe there’s no way to do it. Perhaps Twitter and other social networks were designed this way specifically to be immune to social control (and by consequence, to exerce social control) over well-established institutions.

It is still a thing, at least in Brazil afaik. My cousin went to one these retreats the other day, he tried to convince me to go with him but I don't like those. He said it was really intense and very "close to god".
Re:Ask HN: Will the web's spam problem ever be solved? on Sunday October 10, 2021 @11:22AM (#28819097)
Not while incentives for spamming others still exist. If corporations and governments are still seeing the internet as a way to maximize profits/popular approval, the spam will always be the norm.
Re:Dead Internet Theory: Most of the Internet Is Fake on Sunday October 10, 2021 @09:53AM (#28818419)
Why was this post flagged? It certainly will add some fuel to the conspiracy theories it mentions.
Re:Dead Internet Theory: Most of the Internet Is Fake on Sunday October 10, 2021 @09:51AM (#28818398)
I think this is exactly the point of posts like this. We have created an exploitable environment, that can be abused for several reasons (politics and economics, being the two most obvious). And the fact that it is abusable, makes it less of a thing "for humans" or, at least, something we have evolved to consume/participate every day, let alone every hour of our lives.
Yeah. It is less of a “roots” definition of hacker and more of a “how can I hack the system to get rich with technology”.
The other day I saw a post here asking people about how much they had saved and what their age was. A completely pointless dick-measuring thing, that I thought I wouldn’t find even in the likes of Reddit.

I follow HN on and off, usually just lurking, since 2017. But lately I’ve noticed a surprising amount of people humble bragging about their crypto wallets, their no-work-million-dollars startup, and how good their lives are since they left Facebook.

I notice that for people who are pro-vaccine, this “government authoritarianism” is not taken as, well, authoritarianism. It is rather perceived as the government caring for its people and adopting the necessary measures to control the situation. It’s interesting to see how different groups of society perceive the same issue from completely different angles.
If only there was a solution that 1) solved all of their problems listed and 2) protected them and society from the worst pandemic in recent years…
