Yep confirming/restating, for kitchenware, lowercase pyrex == tempered, capital PYREX == borosilicate.
My Brother laser printer counts toner consumption (i.e. page count) with a keyed gear on the toner cartridge, different cartridge capacities have different shaped gears, resetting the gear orientation resets the counter.

http push, baby!

alternatively, trust the client timer, ship a full 86400 frame gif, and figure out a start-frame hack.

it's instantaneous, but the -T (transfer buffer % full display) is sometimes useful for that. (0% full -> source limited, 100% full -> sink limited)

The 1992 WGBH/BBC 5-part miniseries "The Machine That Changed The World"(US)/"The Dream Machine"(UK):

is out of print, but can be found intermittently on youtube.

I love the coverage of 1940's computing, with interviews with several of the surviving people:

You preempted a question about the lineage from/comparison with acoustic delay lines in footnote 2.

Thanks for the posts :-)

don't trash it, put it in a closet for a while until you want to (or find someone who wants to) learn electronics troubleshooting.

You'll regret trashing it in a few years.

Re:Ask HN: Why did multicopters suddenly take off? on Friday May 08, 2015 @11:03AM (#9512065)
MEMS sensor (gyros/accelerometers) technology developed for smartphones made cheap multicopter control systems possible.

It's the open fork of OpenSolaris after the Oracle takeover of Sun. Many ex-Sun engineers work at companies that use/contribute to Illumos.

Highly dependent on where he lives.

There are parts of the country (I'm familiar with central/western MA) where there is no cable service, ADSL requires a short distance from the local POP (and <= 1.5Mbps is arguably not 'broadband'). FTTH rollouts have pretty much stopped, and 4G service is nonexistent.

There is a good talk on telecom monopolies linked in this comment (that thread has other good discussions, as well): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6124918
