I think it is a good thing that the system is working.
Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:08AM (#50165825)
Need to see a Strata style take on this.
Re:JDK 28 on Saturday October 17, 2026 @08:00PM (#50136413)
JIT + hotspot optimization makes JVM pretty fast, but warmup time is usually the problem. However it does look like they’re addressing startup time with improvements in this release:

- AOT compilation: https://openjdk.org/jeps/544 - ~100ms startup for ZGC: https://openjdk.org/jeps/545

Problem glasses doing problematic things.
This is not accurate, I get like 80t/s on Q3.8 27b UD Q4_K_XL on my 4090 with 3 drafts and about 110K context window, sim shows mid 20s
If someone wants contracts in C++, now they can just keep using C++. Which is good, because a lot of people and projects are stuck with C++, so the actual question is merely: can you have contracts in your project or can’t you?
Re:If AI is conscient, then we are making slaves on Thursday October 15, 2026 @12:33PM (#50106164)
To be fair, it is actually less egregious if you’re translating. I have never heard or used this term in my life as a native speaker, so it is a surprising usage.
Re:If AI is conscient, then we are making slaves on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:35PM (#50074523)
Have you ever in your entire life used the word “conscient” until now? (not “conscious”!)
what would make you think that such a creature would consider your behavior anything like a moral good, let alone have a similar system of values to yours? if anything it would probably consider it a sign of weakness or something.
Re:Unikernels were hard. key word: were on Saturday October 10, 2026 @06:55PM (#50037987)
I’ve always thought there should be a module-level safety property in the type system such that unsafe would be a capability granted by the user’s code.
Citizen Kane type stuff
Re:If AI is conscient, then we are making slaves on Saturday October 10, 2026 @09:32AM (#50032796)
The use of the word “conscient” here is so pretentious I could scream.
Re:Rewriting Prime Agent in Rust on Friday October 09, 2026 @11:30PM (#50029273)
Convenient yes, but also not just a rust thing!
Re:Anthropic bans 'abusive or cruel behavior' towards Claude on Friday October 09, 2026 @10:17AM (#50020887)
Their marketing is insanely obnoxious.
They downvoted him because he spoke the truth.
TIL about Firebird, so thanks for that!
Re:Why Common Lisp Is Now the Best Programming Language on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @08:56AM (#49977719)
not so classical after all I guess
Re:Why Common Lisp Is Now the Best Programming Language on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @08:55AM (#49977710)
If Java is fast, why are Gradle and Spring slow?
You people who think this is a great thing really need to put more thought into what you propose as the migration to your better future, because what it looks like to everyone else is that you’d really love them not to able to afford heat, rent, and groceries

Re:Vx – One Language, Every Chip on Saturday October 03, 2026 @04:12PM (#49947350)
typesystems can be considered a kind of static analysis
Re:ADHD, autism or complex trauma? [pdf] on Saturday October 03, 2026 @03:09PM (#49946846)
I’m sure a lot of people seeking an ADHD / Autism diagnosis after “discovering” they “totally have it” after seeing a video on social media do not in fact have ADHD / Autism.
There is no way I would have been able to identify this as sarcasm on this board without the sarc mark, so thanks for that, I was getting upset
Re:City building games have a Soul Problem pt.2 on Saturday October 03, 2026 @12:46PM (#49945782)
I don’t really think aesthetic details can create soul where there is no soul. Somehow I can’t imagine a world where games cost millions of dollars to produce yet also have soul mechanically injected by following some art director’s design-language protocol.
Wow. That brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful and upstanding woman. So many people — both men and women — would jump at the opportunity to play the victim card and amplify their private resentments against their spouse to glorify themselves when they got the spotlight like that. Instead she displayed immense character and honor in defending her husband. All of us should take a lesson from her example.

One thing I kinda like about the slop era is that it’s not so hard to clone apps like this to run entirely on local LLMs
Re:Wall Street Is Growing Skeptical of the Data Center Boom on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @12:20AM (#49796761)
It blows my mind that anyone hasn’t grasped that the token pricing game is a race to the bottom forever.
