A few times now, I gave Claude all my IronPython scripts and asked it to make to see if it could improve the code. It proceeded to break nearly all of them.
Re:Figma Slides Is a Beautiful Disaster on Monday June 02, 2025 @05:53PM (#44163519)
This whole article reads like a promotion for Apples Keynote masked behind a ridiculous concern "to finally upgrade my presentation tool". I'm guessing he didn't mention that Keynote comes with a price tag of the cheapest Mac computer... while the other is completely free.
Re:The Full Story of the FAA's Hiring Scandal on Wednesday February 05, 2025 @11:40PM (#42959146)
Testing for ability is exactly what they were originally doing before the NBCFAE got involved in the FAA's well established hiring process.

I get your point, but to be clear this is already what they were doing since 1989 up until 2013.

Re:Converted a MacBook into a PC on Monday November 11, 2024 @06:49PM (#42111489)
I notice that the bluetooth antenna is unplugged not sure if you're using the wifi/bluetooth card from the Mac.
Re:Converted a MacBook into a PC on Monday November 11, 2024 @06:46PM (#42111466)
It's lit by the backlight in the LCD display. In other words, he didn't do anything extra.
Re:Procrastination and the fear of not being good enough on Sunday November 10, 2024 @08:23PM (#42103828)
I read a Virginia Woolf recently, To The Lighthouse. In which the mother describes her teenage children as having "incurable laziness". Which I found hilarious.
Re:M4 MacBook Pro on Wednesday October 30, 2024 @05:50PM (#42000811)
It would depend on a countries consumer laws. I used to work for AASP's in Australia and they definitely used refurished phones for replacements and refurished parts for the Mac repairs. Not everyone who uses this site lives in America...
Re:ReMarkable launch Paper Pro, a colour e-ink tablet on Wednesday September 04, 2024 @10:49PM (#41453018)
I wonder how long before the incoming lawsuit from Apple / other tech giant / patent troll.
I myself archive vinyl only LP's for arguably the most elite of the music trackers. The music industry should honestly be ashamed of themselves for neglecting so much good music from the past and a lot of times making it extremely hard for artists or management to digitize their catalogs due to greedy legal reasons.
Re:Intel to lay off 15,000 employees on Sunday August 04, 2024 @08:13PM (#41157197)
Blaming missing the AI boom on your revenues just shouldn't fly as an excuse. Good hardware makers should be innovating in other ways not just focusing / relying purely on AI and other tech trends for their revenue.
Re:Attribution is dying, clicks are dying on Monday July 29, 2024 @09:08PM (#41105219)
This has got to be one of the most out-of-touch comments I've ever read on HN. Most users of the internet aren't tech saavy and should not be preyed upon because of it.
Re:The Origins of DS_store (2006) on Friday July 05, 2024 @02:18AM (#40880210)
Rixsteps take on .DS_Store - a much more enjoyable read. https://rixstep.com/1/20030521,00.shtml

And a follow up article - https://rixstep.com/2/20061212,00.shtml

Re:Coup Attempt in Bolivia on Wednesday June 26, 2024 @07:00PM (#40805533)
You think referencing other coups is somehow unrelated?
Re:Apple found in breach of EU competition rules on Monday June 24, 2024 @07:19PM (#40782222)
Google also taxes for transactions on their Play store, but yes, Apple takes it to the extreme. You don't have to buy into the walled garden though.
Re:Banana giant held liable for funding paramilitaries on Thursday June 13, 2024 @12:59AM (#40666112)
Just more hypocracy from the US. US have been funding and training paramilitaries in just about every continent for decades now. Don't your government have anything better to do then throw their weight around the global arena?
Despite people downvoting me I did read the article. I don't assume this is all fisherman since that Chinese boat mentioned seems to be conveniently taking out cables and the Chinese gov is not responding to their investigation requests. Still doesn't change the fact that fishing operations destroy the ocean floors, a simple amount of research can confirm this.
Ah excellent, fishermen not only destroying the ocean but also the infrastructure of countries. When will peoples appetite for destroying the ocean be qualled?
Re:Voyager 1 Resumes Sending Science Data on Wednesday May 22, 2024 @09:54PM (#40449499)
You would assume that, yes, we will learn lots from the only spacecraft that is continually travelling further and further into unexplored space...
Re:Scandal at America's top science fair on Wednesday May 22, 2024 @02:07AM (#40437818)
I believe you're confusing "mistake" with "accident".
This is an awesome project. I work with Revit(Python coded) so immediately tried shift + mouse wheel click drag. If you can get anywhere near Revit that would be impressively scary for Autodesk.
If that was true then Putin would also be immune to ICC prosecution, so, it doesn't seem to work like that.

> it prosecutes cases only when States do not are unwilling or unable to do so genuinely.

And if you read the last part of the sentence you quoted it should make it pretty clear that it doesn't work like you have interpreted it.

I wonder how many kids would read more if Taylor Swift or Mr Beast or 'Insert favourite youtuber/celebrity here' started promoting book reading.
Re:Attackers Can Decloak Routing-Based VPNs on Monday May 06, 2024 @06:05PM (#40280046)
Great write up by the way. Even some technical people might not know about this, not all technical people are network experts after all.
Re:FreeBee: AT&T Unix PC emulator on Monday April 29, 2024 @12:41AM (#40194513)
Being Australian, I don't know much about the company other then it's a popular telecom provider in North America so it's interesting to see that they had their hands in workstations at some point.
Re:The man who killed Google Search on Tuesday April 23, 2024 @07:24PM (#40138555)
> the tone of this article is off putting to me.

I can't tell if this is a joke or not. Seems sincere... Maybe you should get off the internet if that is the case . . .

You are not a big fan of the EU after this? They seem to care more about privacy and rights of the people within the majority of the countries that make up the EU then any other outside country that I could name.

Then again, I'm not American so I can easily see the influence your country has on most other countries, so to say the "EU have enormous capacity for overreach at the expense of participating countries and their citizens" is completely ignorant and oblivious.

Re:Features lost across versions of macOS on Wednesday March 13, 2024 @01:25AM (#39688355)
Must have been flagged by Apple's marketing team :D
If you think it's ethically/morally sound to copy someones free code to make financial gain for yourself then I'd imagine corndog is probably your friend and that you two were made for each other.
Re:A steep rise of Hacker News in Google rankings on Sunday February 18, 2024 @10:54PM (#39426105)
For years I had no idea of this forum, no Apple technicians I worked with ever mentioned this site. Rixstep.com linked this forum (in 2016) in one of their articles and that's how I found it. Definitely felt like being given a gift. HN is/was a true hidden gem.
Re:Ancient Rome's Failed Building Projects on Sunday February 18, 2024 @07:16PM (#39424923)
Remember, we aren't talking about modern society with access to a ton of recording essentials, we are talking about a very select few educated individuals (given the overall population) that were probably preoccupied writing much more important things then a building project failure.
