The problem was that you would get points as an editor, so people would just rewrite everything even when it didn't it.

Why is the rating for ATV Launcher Pro so bad?
Re:Crest – an Arc-inspired open-source browser for Mac on Monday October 12, 2026 @04:10AM (#50053038)
If I've already been using Arc for a long time, is there any benefit of moving to Zen? Active development, I suppose?
Re:A warning about 'model welfare' on Thursday September 17, 2026 @01:26AM (#49736738)
We grant rights to some animals. Most domesticated animals have very few rights and suffer fates you wouldn't wish upon your worst enemy.

Having rights should not be based upon being conscious/not conscious, but on the ability to suffer. AIs cannot suffer, as far as I'm aware.

Not OP but I bought a pair of wide-toe trainers from Altra and I love them. They are the least ugly, properly wide shoes I have bought yet (and I've worn a good few).
It honored the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. And it demonstrated French industrial prowess, iron craftsmanship advanced engineering capabilities..
Re:What's New in Flutter 3.47 on Thursday August 13, 2026 @04:19AM (#49283086)
Dart shipped in 2011, four years before Flutter started.

On the technical side, Flutter needed AOT compilation to native ARM for release builds and a JIT for development (that's what makes stateful hot reload possible). Dart does both from one codebase. TypeScript means shipping a JS VM, which is precisely the overhead Flutter was designed to avoid. (In contrast to RN). Dart's other big win is GC tuned for allocating and throwing away tons of short-lived objects which is what happens when you hot reload over and over.

Go has no JIT, so no hot reload, and no generics until 2022, Flutter has a big widget library so that would not have been possible.

And of course the Dart team was inside Google, and had just lost its original mission when Chrome declined to ship the Dart VM, and was willing to change the language to suit Flutter.

Re:Kill The Cookie Banner on Monday July 27, 2026 @05:02AM (#49066899)
I dunno, the people I've talked to about it (small sample) have said they don't mind because then they get more relevant ads. It's very hard to reason with that sort of thing!

Thanks!

I made this clock recently just for fun. It's a digital clock made of analog clocks

The EU already has exactly that! The Charter of Fundamental Rights is binding constitutional law, and the Council's own lawyers said the CC2.0 would probably be annulled by the CJEU if passed. The problem isn't the absence of this constitutional right, it's that constitutional review is retrospective. Someone has to pass the law, it runs for years, harm accumulates, a case reaches the court, and then it gets struck down.
Re:I used Claude Code to get a second opinion on my MRI on Monday June 29, 2026 @03:37AM (#48716015)
Anecdotally, I've had Claude (Sonnet and Opus latest) consistently misread numbers from screenshots of my macro tracking app. Makes me skeptical of claims about its usefulness for anything requiring accurate image interpretation, let alone MRI analysis.
Re:Who's the Smartest Corvid? on Thursday June 11, 2026 @09:34AM (#48490155)
Anecdata: I see this in the park next to my house. Two crows will repeatedly chase and tail-pull an Egyptian goose that has no food and nothing they could want. Hard to read it as anything other than play, which lines up with documented corvid tail-pulling of eagles, cats, etc.
Also he is not a "thought criminal". He has convictions convictions for crimes such as assault, threats, harassment, fraud and contempt of court.

Re:OpenAI Livestream: ChatGPT Images 2.0 on Wednesday April 22, 2026 @05:37AM (#47861186)
Arent't the models trained on open source code though? In which case OpenAI et al should be following the licenses of the code on which they are trained.
Capitalism is not the redistribution of resources. It is an economic system in which the means of production are owned by private owners, as opposed to collectively.

In theory, full communism prevents corruption by removing its structural causes rather than relying on laws or moral exhortation. And since corruption under capitalism (in Marxist analysis) stems from private ownership, class divisions, and the scramble for scarce resources, abolishing those conditions should eliminate the incentives that drive people to exploit positions of power for personal gain. Without private property to accumulate or a state apparatus to capture, the reasoning goes, there would simply be nothing left to be corrupt about.

Re:Map Gesture Controls - Control maps with your hands on Wednesday April 15, 2026 @06:14AM (#47776998)
Sure? Does it necessarily need to be internet-connected?
Re:Sonnet 4.6 Elevated Rate of Errors on Thursday April 09, 2026 @04:02AM (#47700588)
OK not constantly using multiple agents, but very frequently.
Re:Map Gesture Controls - Control maps with your hands on Thursday April 09, 2026 @04:01AM (#47700581)
Nice. Just a thought: It would be cool if you could control your TV with (robust) hand gestures like this!
Re:Sonnet 4.6 Elevated Rate of Errors on Wednesday April 08, 2026 @03:24AM (#47686558)
No, in fact I'm growing increasingly suspicious of messages I see like this all over the socials.

I am using Claude constantly, multiple agents, around 8-10hrs a day, 5 or 6 days a week, and I'm never anywhere need my limit.

Maybe the joke was on Babbage. Possible that they were asking about trust and over-reliance, which turned out to be the real problem.
Yes that's what vegetarian means, 99% of the time.

Where did I say "full complicity"? But yes, animals who are farms for milk and eggs are treated just as badly, sometimes worse, than animals that are farmed for meat.

>Beyond Meat CEO Says ‘It’s Just Not The Moment For Plant-Based Meat’ After Rebrand

It absolutely is the time for plant-based meat. It has never been more crucial. It's just that their business model was easily replicable.

Unfortunately by still eating dairy and eggs, you are participating in that system.
Health conscious ethical vegan here. I eat these fairly often. The protein content is fine. I get micronutrients from other sources. I track all my calories and macros, every single day. My diet is perfectly balanced, thanks very much.

Something is only unhealthy or healthy in light of everything else you eat. It's reductive to say otherwise.

Impressive engineering, genuinely. But I'd push back on the framing that scaling aquaculture is straightforwardly good.

Fish sentience is increasingly well-supported in the neuroscience literature. We already kill somewhere around 1-2 TRILLION fish annually... a number that dwarfs land animal slaughter yet attracts almost no ethical scrutiny. Optimising and scaling that system is worth examining carefully.

The part of your website that says "land can't feed 10B people, wild fisheries are maxed out, therefore aquaculture" also quietly ignores plant-based protein, which is more land-efficient and doesn't require instrumentalising sentient animals at industrial scale.

I'm not saying the engineering problems aren't interesting. They clearly are. But at 1-2 trillion deaths per year, this is the largest scale of animal killing in human history, and we're building better tools to do more of it.

Reading is much faster than writing, that's a given. You can generate the rules in less than an hour, then never have to write a line of code again.

But maybe you have trouble writing prompts. Spend some time learning how to do that and it will be even easier. It's a skill ;)
