You forget all the media stories on the early 2000's about SUV's doing things, like they didn't have a driver.
Re:An hour of audio transcribed in about 13s on MacBook Air on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @08:51AM (#50070883)
With MacWhisper you can select the Apple models, it took almost 4x as long to transcribe the same file versus this software and MacWhisper/Parakeet3.
Re:An hour of audio transcribed in about 13s on MacBook Air on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @08:48AM (#50070842)
I tested a 33 minute local audio only file on a M4 Mac Mini with 24GB of Ram and it took 6.75 seconds to transcribe it using this software. Using MacWhisper/Parakeet3 it was about 7.5 secs using a stopwatch.
Re:Google ending ChromeOS support two years early on Thursday October 01, 2026 @02:33PM (#49925348)
Can a Chromebook even last 10 years? Aren’t they made from cheaper materials to get the cheaper price points?
Re:Ask HN: Why don't we bring back old school OkCupid? on Monday September 07, 2026 @03:50PM (#49602264)
Are there any documented instances of “bigots” using ddos for services catering to the needs of minorities?
Yet it will still take just as long to get the code tested and approved in production by the SME.

They released some AI related product for the desktop that was probably vibe coded and will not be installing
I would think profitability would be the biggest risk factor
You can get 30 dozen eggs at Costco business center for under 18 dollars. Is that price fixing? Do with that what you will.
Re:Steam Machine on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @03:27PM (#48650086)
Also, many popular online multiplayer games, like Call of Duty, will not work with SteamOS
Re:Steam Machine on Monday June 22, 2026 @07:36PM (#48638033)
For reference to the current prices of consoles:

Nintendo Switch 2 $449.99

Xbox Series S (512GB/1TB) $379.99 – $449.99

Xbox Series X (1TB) $649.99

PlayStation 5 Slim (Digital) $599.99

PlayStation 5 Slim (Disc) $649.99

PlayStation 5 Pro $899.99

From reading posts on X/Twitter, I got the feeling that PC Gaming enthusiasts truly believed this was going to compete with console gaming and those players would flock to the utopia that is Steam OS and managing hardware. At this price I believe its way too expensive to temp console gamers and Steam supporters will probably balk about the specs to price ratio.

Yes, they claim the TAM for AI is 24 trillion dollars. Do with that what you will.
Because using AI in a product description is a signal to venture capital if private and investors if public, that your stock price deserves to go up.
Example #1, Co-pilot in EVERY corner of Microsoft's software.
Google owns 5% of SpaceX fyi.
Well, we don't have any information on cost, battery life or performance yet, which all matter. Could very well run laps around the M series at half the battery life and twice the cost.
Re:Deepfakes Tore a High School Apart on Friday May 22, 2026 @07:20AM (#48234350)
Not sure why you are being downvoted would a normal reaction to someone just saying it is a "pixel on a screen"
Doesn't this need a 2019 added to the headline?
Correct, but Incredible Universe had one on display for a very long time in the video games department and you could play World Heroes and other games for free! There would be a line of kids waiting to take a turn at World Heroes and I remember my friend and I playing the frisbee game. No need to goto the arcade when you could play these games for free.
Just a shout out to Incredible Universe that was stupid/smart (you pick) for putting a Neo Geo on display to allow us to play arcade quality games for free. There would be a small line inside the Video Games sections of kids queueing up to play World Heroes.Fun memories.
Red states are against the deals as well. Many people in Texas are fighting back but sometimes it’s too late because the deal was done in secret.
What is funny is the Adobe executive who proved that yearly employee review process is no longer needed over a decade ago but for some reason the trend never caught on across the corporate world. Seems that some trends just don’t catch on for some reason.
Re:Tesla Is Sitting on a Record 50k Unsold EVs on Saturday April 04, 2026 @10:43AM (#47639490)
The Model Y is going on 8 years old, S and X are being shutdown. That leaves you with the 3 and Y. Cybertruck will be shutdown soon. What new models have they announced?
Re:The optimal age to freeze eggs is 19 on Monday March 09, 2026 @05:52PM (#47316079)
This video on YT explains the not much talked about side effects and risks that can come from egg retrieval. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAMrwAGR3GA

In the almost 30 years of using Mac’s at home and various desktop pc’s in the workplace I don’t think I have ever seen ram fail. Replaced plenty of old school failed disk drives however.
Re:Why is Claude an Electron app? on Sunday February 22, 2026 @04:27AM (#47109627)
Shouldn't Anthropic just prompt Claude to "make an Electron app, but more reliable and eats less resource?" That easy right?
Re:Google is stifling anti-ICE speech in the workplace on Friday February 13, 2026 @09:09AM (#47002894)
Does google still have employees who spend all their days in the chat rooms advocating for their lifestyle choices while on the clock?
Re:2025 was the year Xbox died on Sunday December 28, 2025 @04:08AM (#46409601)
I find it comical that the Switch was completely ignored, which just means to me that Nintendo finally won the console wars while the other two fight for second place. VGCharts has this for lifetime sales for the current consoles in the USA.

Switch 1 (57,530,683) PlayStation 5 - (33,012,035) Xbox Series X|S - (20,764,129) Switch 2 -(4,243,125)

Re:Ford kills the All-Electric F-150 on Tuesday December 16, 2025 @07:48AM (#46287849)
All those things can be done with the newer gas F150s minus the frunk storage.
