Re:Where Have All the Car Commercials Gone? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:16AM (#50271752)
The answer is in the article's tagline:

"Automakers are emphasizing streaming and regional TV over the big brand storytelling that long dominated prime time."

No, we would simply have to make spying illegal and require offenders criminally to pay restitution plus fines for each violation. You'd see vast improvements in folks' behavior pretty damned quick if people started getting thrown into jail AND bankrupted for spying.

Re:Tasks as Code: Move Your Tickets into the Repository on Monday October 26, 2026 @08:35AM (#50242589)
Nah. There's a manager at my company that's pushing this, and it sucks for pretty much everyone except him. I suppose it's fine if you're delegating sprint management to AI agents, but everyone except the manager is going to be using this tool to manage sprints.

Re:Why is GitHub so bad at UI? on Monday October 19, 2026 @08:42AM (#50151711)
You have to give Microsoft credit where it's due: it's not just UI they're bad at. Branding, authentication/authorization, gaming, privacy... they're bad in many other ways besides UI.

Because the president isn't rogue. He was duly elected and aided/abetted by the GOP. It indicates a systemic failure, not an anomaly.
Re:Java sealed classes and exhaustive pattern matching on Sunday October 18, 2026 @04:09PM (#50144961)
Java lacks a ton of quality-of-life features that are table stakes in other languages, including C# and Kotlin. Auto-properties, async, extension methods, nullable reference types, primitive types, string interpolation/templates -- Java is inferior to C# in every one of these areas.
Re:Java sealed classes and exhaustive pattern matching on Sunday October 18, 2026 @01:00PM (#50142909)
Java still inexplicably doesn't have first-class support for string interpolation/templates. They were slated to add it in Java 23, but they removed it from the preview and it hasn't been seen since.

Re:A.I. Is Going Rogue. Who Should Be Held Responsible? on Sunday October 04, 2026 @03:10PM (#49956869)
No. This is reassigning blame away from the companies, because it's AI.
Re:A.I. Is Going Rogue. Who Should Be Held Responsible? on Sunday October 04, 2026 @03:09PM (#49956866)
100% this. All it takes is holding AI companies financially responsible for the problems introduced by the products they create. You'd see them shape up pretty damned quick.
I'm still calling BS on this battery:

"But the report measured just two elements, on a cell Donut Lab took apart itself. And nine months after CES, there’s still no production vehicle running on the battery."

Re:Could an iced coffee freeze you out of the job market? on Saturday September 26, 2026 @09:12PM (#49862326)
"US recruiter Caitlin Wehniainen" is a moron. One of the first things I'm asked in many interviews immediately after I arrive is whether I'd like water or some coffee. Granted, most of the time I don't bring anything in with me because I simply don't want to risk spilling it. But judging somebody negatively for bringing their beverage of choice in with them is an indication that they don't really know how to recruit.
And she spells it out really well. But yeah.
It sounds delicious. I'll take two, please.
