News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I am a die hard fan of GPT and codex, I have been working on a very complex system, it was taking codex/gpt5.5 xhigh weeks to actually properly get it working, it kept making massive mistakes, it never followed the architecture and desing, it designed thin layers, inline LLM prompts even though our docs explicitly told it to externalize it, it hardcoded formulas in line in ts files instead of yaml files, did not wire various components, and so on.

i generally dont use claude due to very bad early on experience with it (it did the famous rm rf ). I gave Fable a try on isolated worktree, and in 4 days it completed work that i was assuming would take me until mid july with codex/gpt5.5 xhigh + fast.

I wish / and hope Fable comes back, i wish i had it for two more weeks. its just on another level

You are absolutely correct I shouldn’t have done that.

Try Claude code. I have built so many. Entire pitch decks for my startup. It is the best. Tell it to use animation libraries gsap framer motion etc to build svg.
6000 pages have converted to 1 millions+ lines of product specs and granularly broken down work in phases and tasks. All tracked in the repo.
I have written a software which I wanted to do so for past 7-8 years within past 3 months. I have over 6000 pages of conversations between me and chatgpt Claude Gemini. And hoping to get patent soon. It consists of over to 260k loc, works well it is architected to support many different industries without much changes but configuration and has very good headed and headless qa coverage. I have spent about 16-18 hours a day because I am so bought into the idea and the outcome I am getting. My patent lawyer suggested getting provisional patent on my work. So for me it works
Oh shit your UI looks exactly 100% like mine.
Re:Lessons from 14 Years at Google on Sunday January 04, 2026 @01:33PM (#46490787)
15 years in leadership worked at 3 jobs lead major transformations at retail where nearly 100B of revenue goes through what i built. Ran $55-$100M in a yearly budget… over 300 FTEs and 3x contractors under my or my budget,…largest retailer in google at that time…my work influenced GCP roadmap, Datastax roadmap, … much more all behind the scenes…. besides your capabilities and ability that had to be there to get you in those positions - but once you are in those positions - only that mattered is politics and asskissing. I know so many people smarter than me, always stayed lower b/c they didn’t know how to play politics. Only reason i never got higher was I didn’t know how to play politics and kiss ass any more or any better.

The top people are all who kissed each others ass and looked out only for their cohort (e.g. people who were in same positions as them in early 2013). So teach your kids to kiss ass and play poltiics.

Paid Live Video Sessions (Primary Income) • Pros earn per-minute or per-session fees for live video consultations. • Example: • $3–5 per minute • Typical 10–20 minute call → $30–$80 per session • No travel time, no fuel, no tools, no overhead.

Pros log in when available (between jobs, evenings, weekends). • Ideal for: • Independent contractors • Apprentices with experience but limited licensing • Semi-retired pros • Pros during slow seasons

This unlocks underutilized labor.

⸻

4. Lead Conversion (Optional Upside) • If an issue requires in-person work, pros can: • Convert the session into a local job lead • Or refer the job and earn a referral fee

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025) on Monday December 15, 2025 @02:38AM (#46271471)
I have built a AI powered home improvement platform with live consultation with pros.

I am not sure if I will go live with it.

It allows those professionals experts across the USA provide help to Do It yourself consumers for a fee. Consumers can be anywhere.

So I married sort of like Uber (rent skills) + upwork (rent + fees) + FaceTime + e-commerce. realtime audio transcription that identifies parts you need and builds a list for pros and you to review which you then go shop.

: Meet Handy — AI + Live Experts for Every Fix.

: Instant, intelligent home-improvement help — see it, solve it, and shop for it, all in one live session.

Live Video Calls with Pros Instantly connect with verified experts via real-time video. No scheduling hassle — just point your camera and get help.

AI-Powered Visual Assistance HandyLens AI analyzes what the camera sees, highlights problem areas, and guides both consumer and pro with contextual prompts.

Domain Expertise Specialized AI Packs (Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, Painting, etc.) ensure every session applies the right technical and safety knowledge.

Actionable Fix Path Each call ends with a clear, AI-generated “Fix Report”: what to do, parts needed, and next steps.

Commerce & Trust Built-In Integrates with retailer catalogs for instant part links, and captures verified pro ratings and summaries for quality assurance.

Yeah this something I need to get to.
Re:Gemini CLI Tips and Tricks for Agentic Coding on Wednesday November 26, 2025 @04:00PM (#46062252)
Apologies. I meant branch. I nuked the branch. But set me back a lot of time as I thought it may be few things here and there.
Re:Gemini CLI Tips and Tricks for Agentic Coding on Wednesday November 26, 2025 @02:44PM (#46061548)
I have never had a luck with using Gemini. I had a pretty good app create with CODEX. Due to the hype I thought let me give Gemini a try. I asked it find all way to improve security and architecture / design. sure enough it gave a me a list of components etc that didn’t match best patterns and practices. So I let it refactor the code.

It Fucked up the entire repot. It hard coded tenant ids and used ids, it completely destroyed my UI. Broke my entire grpahql integration. Set me back 2 weeks of work.

I do admit the browse version of Gemini chat does much better job at providing architecture and design guidance time to time.

Haha. This. I had to swallow that $30 a month cost. Because by going through the family sharing, I am saving so much heaxh and time wastage for my family who use YouTube for learning (school, college…), parents who watch videos, listen to music etc. well worth it for me.
Free publicity for Starfield. :)
As a man I disagree.
Doesn’t matter cause still not a huge pattern to be able to figure out and limited resources.
Sharing some experience. When hackers steal credit cards and want to verify if it’s working or blocked they also do something similar. Another pattern I have seen is that hackers order multiple items for a seller (retailer website) and have them delivered to multiple addresses over time where they don’t live and don’t care for the item. They however order an item that they want to a address which they can access. This throws off security and police as there is no pattern for machines to track and police don’t have resources to go to all addresses for checking.
Sharing some experience.
Re:What's new in Llama 2 and how to run it locally on Monday August 07, 2023 @11:35PM (#37044217)
I am doing STT using whisper on my local laptop and recording all the meetings. I am then asking llama and chstgpt to summarize them. ChatGPT does 10x better job. It’s been good to be able to get the main points out of otherwise fuxking boring a. garbage meetings that are at least 30-45 mins long.
Re:What's new in Llama 2 and how to run it locally on Monday August 07, 2023 @11:24PM (#37044148)
Does anyone have info on how to run 70B on windows ? :) would appreciate it.
Re:Job interviews are getting longer on Thursday July 06, 2023 @08:25AM (#36614732)
Not just right now. I have been / am interviewing for VP / CTO roles and by god the process is so draining. By the time I get to interview with the CEO (3/4 times so far) the process gets dragged for weeks and months. The requirements for the positions changes out of nowhere or some exec is on vacation. For example, I interviewed for $25 billion market cap retailer for a VP position. All was great until an SVP which I had already spoken to wanted to talk to me again because they wanted to some question about some very random thing like what would you do if you didn’t know what to do. This after 8 hours of interview with CIO, 4 VPs, 2 SVPs and several directors. None with engineering degrees. They all had been at the company for 13-14 years.

This lasted for 3 months starting October and final rounds in December. Final rejection in mid January. Another Was over 6 months.

I think it is about how Microsoft may not want cannibalize its own products such as copilot. I also imagine that in the future OpenAI would prevent the whole chat with your own data feature in the name of data safety but it would be because Microsoft would want to sell that feature as part of office suite.
I used GPT for preparing for some interviews. I kid you not 3.5 the free version produced some of the best questions and answers. I made it to finals and decided not to pursue the opportunity. Recently I started to pay for ChatGPT which gave me the access to 4.0. I tried similar prompts that I Had used to generate info and questions for my interview with 4.0 and boy I agree 4.0 was a mess. I actually only use 3.5.
No it’s not. This is to eliminate all the fake notes and illegally collected money (via bribes) as depositing the money or exchanging them will force corrupt politicians and others to have to show tax receipts for where did they earn it from. Hahahaha. This is so awesome. Indian culture is full or corruption where you have to bribe to get anything done.
Let’s admit modern Reddit is probably half porn and only fans site. I don’t have quantifiable data but the way I see people on Twitter complain about porn on Twitter. I can only assume.
Most of social platforms are nothing but feature AOL back in the day. They got a different look and feel. Some are cross over of ICQ and AOL (WhatsApp) AOL messenger Chat rooms (discord, telegram) Twitter is nothing but public chat room.
I am trading micro contracts. And been able to make money
Fantastic work. Looks amazing.
Re:Using ChatGPT Plugins with LLaMA on Sunday March 26, 2023 @04:31PM (#35319237)
Since ChatGPT became publicly accessible, I can tell that my use of google has gone down

1. I had an interview for a CIO position - I fed the job description, ask ChatGPT to generate top 10 questions to be asked based on it , I was asked 90% similar or the same questions. Heck I even asked to provide best answers and they were great. It even generated a question on personalization and a/b testing which I thought would be highly unlikely to be asked, but was indeed asked. It was as if the interviewer also generated the same question.

2. For my current company, I am in charge of building a brand new engineering team, for which I wanted to write vision, mission and strategy statements. Previously I would have googled stuff, this time I asked ChatGPT to improve it based on my rough draft. And boy they are great.

I can go on.

My point is that not everyone needs to ask ChatGPT to generate ray tracing code using three.js or whatever. Most of us are just regular folk need regular help and ChatGPT is a game changer for it. Heck it even helped me with some excel macro I needed to write to do some data manipulation.
