Re:Ask HN: What's a good title for a software engineer now? on Saturday October 03, 2026 @12:02AM (#49941262)
Sorry, the correct answer is Forward Deployed Engineer, your job now is to move the slop forward to the customer
Re:Agentic terminology doesn't make any sense on Wednesday July 09, 2025 @12:42PM (#44512120)
I agree with your sentiment, but maybe you can think of an action as a trigger that activates a tool? Like a “click” action triggers the “CRM” tool.

- Shop Talk Show. Chris Coyier is my idol - Syntax. Been watching less since they no longer have the catchy intro song. - Thinking Elixir. Dislike the intro but love Elixir. - JS Party, Changelog. By far the best intro songs and sound affects.

Yea, I am web developer who can’t get enough, and heavily like catchy intros

Do you not want people to contact you easily? Putting your LinkedIn would make it much easier to contact regarding hiring you.
Re:Ask HN: With all the layoffs – how are you? on Friday February 02, 2024 @07:18PM (#39236306)
I've been wanting to say this: Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Don't have experience? Go on Upwork or Craiglist and grab any job you can. Here's a tip: learn about your competition. Once you do, offer your services for $5 less. This shows you're eager and it's a better strategy than endlessly submitting applications without response. Take any job, excel at it, earn that 5-star review, and build your reputation. Remember, the 'hot hand' has the advantage. Picture yourself as a day laborer outside a U-Haul, ready to say 'I can do it!' first. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. GET HOT ROOKIE!

Let’s have a talk, Pluto. We know you’ve been feeling blue They changed your class, so you go blame it on the IAU Now you’re a dwarf planet, and you’re not thrilled, it’s plain to see But if you look at what makes a planet great The dwarves have two out of three:

1 You orbit a star, and your star is called the sun 2 You have enough gravity to make you round, but you’re missing one: 3 Do you clear your surroundings? Dwarf planets don’t clear their neighborhood They don’t have enough mass, but join the class If you don’t know their names, you should

Re:Why Finnish babies sleep in cardboard boxes (2013) on Wednesday December 22, 2021 @06:44AM (#29648043)
They had this in SF via The Baby Box Co, but sadly they seem to be no longer around. It was nice having a nice colorful happy box to keep new born in. Here is an article about what it was https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/baby-box-co-launche...
Hey thats a nice looking shed!
Yea was debating between that and the DevOps cert from AWS. Choose DevOps because it covers some of the same concepts and more. Also just passed the AWS Developer Associate, so warmed up. Using Tutorial Dojo… Highly recommended! CKAD course on Udemy looks good too and have heard good things from friends. Good luck on your journey!
After being self thought how to code through books and hands on projects, I have discovered an even better way to learn and get credentials in that field at the same time and that is through certifications. For example AWS Devops cert, the GCP equivalent and CNF Kubernetes cert.

I live in this neighborhood and the Waymo cars drive into the early morning and are becoming as common as Priuses. The street in question leads to The Presidio, which is federal park, has been closed to cars during the pandemic, and probably whats confusing the Waymo cars.

Re:Dubai is making its own fake rain to beat 122°F heat on Wednesday July 21, 2021 @09:17AM (#27905807)
The amazon rain forest relies on minerals blown from dust storms in the Sahara desert, so therefore terraforming the Sahara would have a negative effect on the amazon. Source https://youtu.be/2hmAeLYMrQg
10,000 years is not a large amount time for the Milky Way, but a very long time for a civilization. In that amount of time, humanity could find its self in another dark ages. Would they still be in contact with the people who colonized another star after that amount of time, even if society collapsed into a dark age? If the two groups were no longer in contact, would they still be considered the same civilization? Also isn’t the galactic core a very dangerous place for leaving things because of density of stars and frequent solar flares? From what I know, life is more likely to survive in the galactic arms, where there is less density of stars and thus less solar flares to wipe out all living things.

Re:Ask HN: Is Elixir Still Relevant? on Sunday April 11, 2021 @01:35PM (#26771988)
I have wondered this too. I think it is still relevant, but very niche. Many companies are using Elixir and striving against their competitors, see Mux. IMO the reason libraries aren’t updated often is because Elixir is a completed language with no breaking updates planned [0], so libraries can be created and not need constant breaking updates. Also, you can do many things without using libraries because of Elixir’s and Erlang’s standard libraries and features. As an Elixir developer, I never go to Awesome Elixir to search for libraries. Its recommended to first look at Elixir docs, Erlang docs, Hex package manager or if still no solution found or have questions go to the Elixir Forum or Stackoverflow.

PS: Elixir is f’n awesome!
