If it turns out that you have no control over what happens with your IP because someone will ignore the license and then make you pay for accessing stolen content then yes, that is certainly one of the solutions. It is also the reason why I recently decided against publishing my personal projects.
Entry-level software engineering positions start at level 59 at Microsoft, with first couple positions taking 2 levels per work title change (59-60 = SE, 60-61 = SE II, 62-63 = Senior SE). Take a look at levels.fyi, that could offer some info / comparison with other companies).
Let them, let's see what happens when their sales plummet. GOG exists, & there's so many games in this world that it'll last me a lifetime to play all the ones that seem interesting to me. The market will be the judge and I think the final outcome will be favorable to the consumer.
If you could find an off-the-shelf ADC with those capabilities, I'd love to hear where. Last time I checked, I was unable to find anything that would financially make sense compared to just buying the entire oscilloscope, but I may not know where / how to look.

I don't have evidence, I am operating under the assumption that e.g. folks behind jobs.now [1] did their homework. This is also what the OP of this whole thread claimed. [2]

[1] https://www.jobs.now/blog/unveiling-the-truth-about-h-1b-vis... "The Jobs. Now team has reviewed job postings from dozens of top companies like Meta, Block, Doordash, and Netflix which require unusual application processes like emailing or paper-mailing the application to specialized addresses, or using unbranded separate websites for collecting applications for jobs." + search for occurrence of "Apple" [2] "My understanding is that this is pretty much how everyone does it, no?"

No, just selective enforcement and maybe sending a message that if you don't behave, the administration may look a bit harder into you than it normally would.

Nothing prevents the administration from changing the law then, last time I checked their party holds all three branches of government + SCOTUS.
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @07:32PM (#49636123)
Yup, because neither has significant advantage over the other. The only place where Celsius imo has a slight advantage comes from how often the phrase "below freezing" is used when talking about weather. That to me suggests that 0C/32F has some special significance, and thus makes Celsius a bit more elegant because it acknowledges that point. The granularity doesn't matter too much, as long as we agree to use decimals for ease of calculations, instead of using 1/32nds or some other barleycorns.
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @06:31PM (#49635488)
This is the correct take. The better system is the one that you have intuition in - just keep using that one if building up intuition in a different system is not worth the cost to you. At least when it comes to temperature. :)

I have a kitchen thermometer for making caramel (can't remember exact number but ballpark is 200C). I occasionally use my oven at 250C. My wife fires her ceramics in a kiln at around 1000C. I don't feel like I'm "wasting" anything here.

> Celsius isn't granular enough.

This argument would be reasonable if we didn't have to cut inches into 16 or 32 parts to approach decent granularity. At least we use decimal for cutting Celsius up...

Do you mind sharing what (if anything) you're using to version that website? I'm wondering what folks use instead of git nowadays.
Re:Where Human Sleep Went Wrong on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @05:14AM (#49359006)
Do you really need to know other kinds of sleep in order to know if you feel like shit after waking up or if you feel fine?
I am willing to accept trailers but the split is closer to 25 minutes of random shit + 5 minutes trailers. Let's be generous and say that I'm misremembering & it's actually 20 + 10. That's still 20 minutes of ads that I'm paying to watch.
The closest Alamo to where I used to live in the USA is 2 states away. My choices were AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. And now that I moved, my choice is to either go to the only cinema around me (with ads), or try to fish something from the treacherous waters of the bay.
I'm already buying their overpriced popcorn and soda!
Just tell me when the movie starts, not when the ads start.
> That’s why movies (...) can clear a billion dollars,

And yet somehow I still get 30 minutes of ads before a watching a goddamn movie in a cinema.

Re:Top researchers leave USA for the Netherlands (in Dutch) on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @04:05AM (#48828992)
Unfortunately, I could not find a dual-hose unit off-the-shelf in any of the local stores and didn't have any hopes of getting it in time if I ordered it online.
I had single-hose both when I lived in USA and now, and didn't have any issues with it cooling down the room I wanted to have cooled down. My bar is "survival of my pets" because rabbits supposedly can't handle more than 25C. Their room stayed well below that temperature both in USA (Seattle suburbs, west-facing in a house that wasn't insulated) and now in Portugal.
I just moved to Portugal and had zero issues installing a portable unit to help me survive the heatwave. For the hinged windows you just grab an installation kit that works with them and you're good to go. The only problem is that the portable AC I got is not a window unit (& it's single-hose), but I wanted to have it before the heatwave started and don't care too much about few percentage points in lost efficiency as long as it keeps me and my pets alive. Total cost was €320 with the installation kit for a 12000BTU unit.
Re:How many of the 170k English words do you know? on Friday June 19, 2026 @06:26PM (#48604014)
Pretty bad that there is no option of "I don't know". A couple of times I tried to guess the wrong word on purpose when I knew I had no clue what the word meant and accidentally got the right answer. I'd expect that admitting ignorance would be an option in such an app...
Re:Midjourney Medical on Thursday June 18, 2026 @06:57AM (#48583556)
Good point, I was not thinking about MRIs with contrast.
Re:Midjourney Medical on Thursday June 18, 2026 @04:21AM (#48582412)
My understanding is that both MRIs and ultrasounds do not introduce problems.
It doesn't matter if some people think good pizza should be burnt to some degree. There is no such thing as objectively good pizza, so one-star review "The pizza was burnt, I didn't like it." is entirely valid thing to say.
Re:Cleaning up after AI rockstar developers on Tuesday June 09, 2026 @10:11AM (#48461392)
Entry-level software engineering at Microsoft starts at L59.
Good luck forcing a child to actually press the red button though. Especially a small child.
Are you also forcing children to press a button or not? Because the answer to this question changes things *a lot*.
> But if you want to generate power, you need to get down to where temperatures can boil water.

Why is that the case? Can't you go down to where it's like 70-80 deg C and close the gap using heat pumps? Yes, you need to put some energy in, but I would expect that the whole process would still be energy-positive at some temperature that's lower than 100C?

From TFA:

The predominance of these idioms as a way to zero out a register led Intel to add special xor r, r-detection and sub r, r-detection in the instruction decoding front-end and rename the destination to an internal zero register, bypassing the execution of the instruction entirely.

AFAIK it's the same in the USA, that's why one of the first questions when interviewing with a company is to ask them about their moonlighting policy if you do want to work on a side project.
