Re:Why I left React for Vue on Saturday November 24, 2018 @11:02AM (#18522596)
I've only ever heard positives from react-> vue movers.

I want to hear negatives and positives from vue -> react movers, however small they may be

Except I have to open emacs in one full second
Has it been adjusted for the living cost? Because I feel (without data) that it would be much worse.
Re:Going to university does not broaden the mind on Friday November 23, 2018 @09:56PM (#18520199)
Broadening the mind, no- opposite effect. It's a very group think environment.

You do get better problem solving skills though and a new approach to looking at problems.

I don't see what's wrong here. The framework is bad and privacy invading but this seems to be a positive advertisement for it
Re:Thank you to dang and sctb on Thursday November 22, 2018 @10:24PM (#18514125)
They're just regular mods. On a toxic one-up community. I'd like then to at least have a courtesy of mentioning when someone is (shadow) banned.
Re:Still in love with Rust on Thursday November 22, 2018 @04:38AM (#18508957)
Same. Rust needs a one-click install "integrated de"
Rust needs an IDE
Re:D compilation is too slow and I am forking the compiler on Wednesday November 21, 2018 @07:08AM (#18502056)
I thought D was proud of compilation times and claimed to be useful as a scripting language?
Re:Supporting older browsers on Wednesday November 21, 2018 @03:17AM (#18501012)
Useful only for very beginners. Very little actual data or code
Re:ReX.js – Your RegEx companion on Wednesday November 21, 2018 @12:40AM (#18500399)
I had not known about this- makes things so much easier to maintian
Re:ReX.js – Your RegEx companion on Tuesday November 20, 2018 @08:35PM (#18499537)
What is expanded regex?
I like how all the good analysis comes first and then comes the sensational punch line
Re:IBM z14 Microprocessor and System Control Design on Tuesday November 20, 2018 @09:17AM (#18493908)
I didn't check this out but what made me respect IBM was their cell (PS3) processor. Very well thought design and ahead of time. Shame it was hard to program.
Re:How to Acquire Your First 100 Customers on Tuesday November 20, 2018 @01:18AM (#18492128)
Which server would you use to host it?

Hint: It's a trick question

Re:China Is Paying for Most of Trump's Trade War, Research Says on Tuesday November 20, 2018 @01:08AM (#18492095)
It seems from a few comments that some people would rather US suffer than Trump be proven right.
Re:Ask HN: Best Command-Line Applications? on Monday November 19, 2018 @08:25PM (#18491204)
I wish more people made the distinction and more people made TUIs too...
Re:ReX.js – Your RegEx companion on Monday November 19, 2018 @08:07PM (#18491108)
I'm a CS guy through and through. Regular languages, cfl, ..... Np complete, what was the books name again?

But I gotta say, regex isn't the best way to show things. Hard to verify, hard to maintain and what not. Computer sciency, sure. But not well "designed".

Now I have no love lost for people who talk about stuff without understanding the fundamentals or the basics even. So I don't doubt that the person was "whatever". But I do feel that regexes need an overhaul

Ps: I'm a fan too when I have to do quick stuff in shell. But not so much when I save it to a file to be read by me and multiple people weeks later. Regex is one thing that is way easier to write than read.

Re:The State of JavaScript 2018 on Monday November 19, 2018 @07:32PM (#18490949)
Site broken on mobile. Do they talk about scala-Js? Really underappreciated how good it is

Pond meet frog
Re:Make vs. Tup (2016) on Monday November 19, 2018 @11:45AM (#18487630)
There was a good post yesterday about redo.

I'm all for good build systems and I have used make quite a bit but the problem in moving to a better build system is that makefiles are so convoluted and hard to reason about that nobody wants to be blamed for breaking the build by migrating.

I wish there were a testing system for builds. Specify updating what should change what and check timestamps (to begin with) of created files.

Re:The State of JavaScript 2018 on Monday November 19, 2018 @11:02AM (#18487305)
I can assure you that nobody on earth hates Js and PHP for "ease of use"
Re:The State of JavaScript 2018 on Monday November 19, 2018 @04:54AM (#18485215)
I think the site is broken on my phone. I'm going to plug in scala-Js because nobody I have told it about has resisted saying wow
Re:Typed-Html: Type Checked JSX for Rust on Monday November 19, 2018 @04:53AM (#18485211)
The entire Scala front end env is very underappreciated. And I say this as a fan of TypeScript creator.
Please talk more. I'm very curious about hoe this thing will play out. (and wish that china is weakened)
Re:Typed-Html: Type Checked JSX for Rust on Sunday November 18, 2018 @11:56PM (#18484314)
Obligatory mention- scalatags. Something different but still wicked cool
Re:AMD Discloses Initial Zen 2 Details on Sunday November 18, 2018 @03:13PM (#18482282)
No such inherent limitation on windows
But what qualifies as fascism and who decides and how (and definitely not buy constantly repeating the same points) is definitely up for a debate
