Re:OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils on Sunday October 04, 2026 @06:11AM (#49952436)
My account is banned, so for whomever with [showdead] on:

It's unfortunate that the supposed pillar of security dismisses Rust on dubious grounds. Yes, there is agenda coming from Ubuntu. And yet, Rust IS the secure alternative to C/C++ (alternative is a misnomer, it's better than the latter on all fronts), so OpenBSD dismissal is very superficial.

Re:Kolibri Has Landed: A Sovereign Open-Weight Model on Saturday October 03, 2026 @12:47PM (#49945795)
My account is banned, so for whomever with [showdead] on:

What's so "not-sovereign" for an open-weights American or an open-weight-open-training-process Chinese LLM?

Do we also need sovereign Linux (maybe), sovereign Postgres (most likely not), sovereign Python (def not)?

My account is banned, so for whomever having [showdead] on:

European directive is not a law, it's a directive.

It's up to the national governments to create applicable laws that are to the letter and to the spirit of a European directive. Then national bodies will start applying the law and govern its implementation/adherence.

An by "up to" I mean they are obliged... eventually.

There must be people who talk like that.

There must be people who think like that.

There must be people who will find nothing disturbing if read or hear such a sentence.

Re:The safest job from AI may be writing on Monday August 31, 2026 @02:52PM (#49513430)
No, that's wishful thinking.
This was the premise of GDPR (which I wholeheartedly support), but Europe caved in to US dictatorship (like Europe always does, cause it has no agency).
Re:Marx, Keynes, and A.I on Monday August 31, 2026 @01:37PM (#49512481)
This linked moloch essay caters to pseudointellectuals and uses a lot of words to do one thing: absolve the evil people of any responsibility.

Instead of wasting a potential reader's time, here's a way better framing: "The Earth is not dying, it is being killed, and those who are killing it have names and addresses."

Slapped (or beaten) would be fair-er.

Unlike the US!

> that knows everything about your company

Given that I don't know everything about my 4-person company, and that I never knew everything when it was a 1-person company (guess which person is that), this sound like https://x.com/mitchellh/status/2044529496217555333 (apologies for twitter link)

Having done a thing does not make a person into a demigod embodiment for life, please remember that guys.

I share the sentiment of the parent (downvoted) commenter.
vibeaccounting explained by llm and posted to vibecoded page which leverages claude-authored horrendous page scroll hijack, no thanks.

to add insult to injury: "author" learned nothing, and there's nothing to learn.

Re:Berlin is being blackmailed by hackers on Monday August 31, 2026 @09:14AM (#49509385)
it would also be foolish to think the sets "humans" and "those who write germany is a backwards country" never overlap.

(I've used "write" to account for bots in the latter set too).

Re:Berlin is being blackmailed by hackers on Monday August 31, 2026 @07:21AM (#49508344)
This luckily applies to the whole of Germany, a 3rd world country masquerading as a first world one.

I also cannot hide my support for all the [dead] comments in this thread that cheer for this happening as they say "Berlin got what it deserved".

At least we can agree in our mutual disdain towards american way of thinking *shaking hands*

Snake oil salesman misrepresents the data. Color me surprised! /s

Re:OpenShot 4.0: Record, Edit, and Color Like Never Before on Monday August 31, 2026 @06:49AM (#49508144)
I've asked "how it compares", not "what's the point" -__-
Re:OpenShot 4.0: Record, Edit, and Color Like Never Before on Monday August 31, 2026 @06:43AM (#49508111)
I have tried the ones I have mentioned, and I hadn't tried this one, - which is precisely why I am asking!

No need for snarky "but ours is foss smugface" comments.

Not to say, your comment make me pretty sure you hadn't tried either of mentioned by me, and does not take video editing seriously.

Re:OpenShot 4.0: Record, Edit, and Color Like Never Before on Monday August 31, 2026 @06:42AM (#49508102)
This does not answer my question, I need something that can do thing, not how it is licensed. I have used Kdenlive, and it's nowhere near either of these functionality-wise, and struggles with big files.
Re:OpenShot 4.0: Record, Edit, and Color Like Never Before on Monday August 31, 2026 @06:33AM (#49508032)
How does this compare to After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Davinci Resolve?

I am pretty sure, this thing solves half of the problems the above solve, and it does it half-good.

>to the Best

to the worst of the worst*

Being from Harvad does not necessary make one right (or smart)

Or just have `jj log` custom-configured.
1) This could not have been farthest from truth

2) WoW will never be billed via a corporate card.

Why is it flagged?
