Cancelled. I subscribe through Apple and I don’t even see the ad-free option. Might reconsider if it appears, but ads are a deal-breaker for me.
All of these HTTP/1.0 requests look just like a scanner that the security team would run again my internal site. Every day.
Re:Better Coordination, or Better Software? on Friday August 27, 2021 @02:04AM (#28324767)
Simple and insightful. I’m noticing increased coordination at work is having the effect described here: slower development.
Re:Centralised DoH is bad for privacy on Tuesday February 18, 2020 @11:52PM (#22363125)
I hate this acronym. Every time I forget.
Many of her posts are about teaching or communicating issues like this to others. In other words, there is no reason to give a class like this if she doesn’t actually know more than the interns.
Re:Intel preferentially offers two customers Skylake Xeon CPUs on Saturday November 26, 2016 @10:55AM (#13044202)
The optimization Amazon wanted (and got) was related to CPU cores, not early next-gen chips. I always assumed it was a way to sell more "dedicated cores" per socket. It might be exclusive, but Google, Facebook and enterprises would not be interested unless the overall chip was more powerful.
Just what we need: more laws to invade privacy. So much for trusting teachers.

I think they get messages like this all the time, which is why they think it is funny. So, satire for this specific example, but suggests an increasing level of annoyance from the Y partners when they actually get these messages.
Re:Are Placebos Really Sugar Pills? on Wednesday January 30, 2013 @02:17PM (#5141172)
True. Just a happy side effect for the advertising in that example.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of more regulation, but scientific integrity seems to demand the placebo ingredients be disclosed.

From the discussion, it seems clear the doctor-scientists have to think about and carefully consider what to use for the control. A single, simple answer cannot work.

Wow, those screenshots look impressive!
Re:"Smart and Gets Things Done" is necessary, but not sufficient on Thursday December 06, 2012 @06:43PM (#4884531)
Can someone take a shot at listing a few math languages vs non-math ones?
Re:Makerbot announces new 3D printer: Replicator 2 on Thursday September 20, 2012 @02:44PM (#4550026)
He is geeky, yes, but I thought his enthusiasm and excitement were both genuine and infectious.

Re:Apple sues Polish grocery store over the letter A on Tuesday September 11, 2012 @05:24AM (#4504500)
Why isn't this headline "US government forces Apple to sue Polish grocery store"?
Re:GoDaddy Moves DNS to Competitor VeriSign on Tuesday September 11, 2012 @12:46AM (#4503859)
After SOPA (or whatever that was called), ignorance is their only defense. Or that they are smitten by Danica Patrick.
Re:AntiSec leaks 1,000,001 Apple UDIDs, Device Names/Types on Tuesday September 04, 2012 @03:08AM (#4473495)
Seriously? Personal info about the President was leaked? Not that this particular instance looks like a big deal. Doesn't the NSA secure the President's communication? That must be carrer-impacting-embarrassing for someone.
Re:Father’s Age Is Linked to Risk of Autism and Schizophrenia on Wednesday August 22, 2012 @03:08PM (#4419009)
Once you get pregnant, though, you are labeled with the condition AMA - Advanced Maternal Age. This comes with more tests and precautions.
Re:A Tor of the Dark Web on Friday August 17, 2012 @06:55PM (#4399245)
Does anyone have references to studies or data? I tried looking once, but couldn't even find a proper definition.
Re:Thoughts on being a programmer on Tuesday August 14, 2012 @01:58PM (#4382203)
I read it as s/backup/commit
Re:How a Single Oxycontin Pill Nearly Ruined One Man's Life on Monday August 06, 2012 @03:18PM (#4346747)
Why is everyone so shocked about the idea this could lead to suicide? After reading this, if I were him, it would be downright appealing. (I am not him, to be very clear. Please don't send help).
Re:A Man Walks into a Bank on Monday August 06, 2012 @01:05PM (#4346020)
I deposited a check at an ATM recently and it was rejected (by the ATM itself) because it was not endorsed. It wasn't and I seriously doubt this is anything more than a check for some ink on the back in the endorse-here area.

The ATM then tried to return the check to me, but there was some kind of paper feed error and I never saw it again.

Re:Marissa Mayer Has a Secret Weapon on Monday July 23, 2012 @03:05PM (#4282523)
Do we have any APM's here on HN that might be willing to comment?
Re:Scaling lessons learned at Dropbox, part 1 on Thursday July 12, 2012 @09:00PM (#4237698)
I'm glad he put the security notes in. It is so hard to get true facts about how things are actually done.
Re:Vooza Mobile App on Wednesday July 11, 2012 @01:36PM (#4230261)
Can't be flash 'cause it played on my iPhone.
That is the brute-force approach Microsoft uses. Corporations love it. I find the problem is that the "matrix" of possibilities you have to keep in mind as a programmer keeps getting bigger and bigger. You end up with the Adobe Flash effect (least common denominator) within your own OS or program or whatever. I would call that a very high price indeed.
Re:Illegal GPS Jammers Are Widespread, Study Finds on Sunday June 17, 2012 @12:39PM (#4123248)
I thought it was refreshing to see that link, even though I didn't click on it. Seems more honest and would have saved me the detour through Google to find it myself.
Re:US and Israel created Stuxnet, lost control of it on Friday June 01, 2012 @10:02AM (#4053376)
Can you please cite your example(s)?
Jeez, I sure hope Uncle Sam comes to protect us all from these big, mean hackers and these over-confident programmers.

That is the only way we will ever be safe. I would put a </sarcasm> but I can't turn it off that quickly.

New tech starts out expensive then drops in price after adoption/volume and competition. That seems so obvious, I'm not sure why the article is essentially saying that it's expensive now, so will never go anywhere.
