All of the games that feature this mechanic are bad, empty, fintech husks. Often they feature same neon vaporwave artstyle, maybe with apes, and usually are transparently asset flips designed more to to feature on cryptocurrencies landing page then to be played. No good games include this ridiculous use case that I cannot imagine anyone who plays games even a little bit to want.

This is one of the best talks I've seen, do you have any other recommendations?

Re:DoorDash S-1 on Friday November 13, 2020 @11:41AM (#25084046)
Corporate lobbying and the wealthy's influence in politics damages democracy far more then this rhetoric ever could.
Re:DoorDash S-1 on Friday November 13, 2020 @11:02AM (#25083610)
The VC world and the economy of online startups are almost like a planned economy. The extremely wealthy allocate money for these expensive yet unprofitable online services, like uber, doordash, and UpWork, almost like socialist central planners. So many of these modern businesses would not exist without the safety net of the extremely wealthy.

Also, how is DoorDash still unprofitable, despite taking 30% commissions from restaurants, and 25% commissions from delivery costs, during a pandemic which has many people locked inside??? It's like the Quibi excuse but somehow worse.

Vaapi recently got AV1 support.

Re:The Sackler family’s plan to keep its billions on Sunday October 04, 2020 @01:10PM (#24680552)
We generally trust doctors to give us medications and advice that help us, and ingest what they prescribe.
Re:The Sackler family’s plan to keep its billions on Sunday October 04, 2020 @01:07PM (#24680524)
Read the linked new yorker article at the bottom of this one to see how they played a direct critical role in getting doctors to perscribe them for minor pain.
Re:Flatpak: A security nightmare – two years later on Friday October 02, 2020 @01:01PM (#24664610)
I really wonder what the author of the sites endgoal is. Do they want flatpak to be eliminated? Do they think theyre stopping the next "systemd" from taking over their favorite distro?

Can you prove that you aren't yourself? How would someone prove that?? I believe you are allowed to say "free tibet" etc on tiktok without any problems right now.
Re:Degoogle: Cutting Google out of your life on Saturday August 22, 2020 @08:10PM (#24248401)
On twitter, im fairly sure AMP links are not hosted by Google. They use a standard developed and pushed by google but I believe the pages themselves are not served by them unless they are accessed from google search.

Re:PDF: Still unfit for human consumption, 20 years later on Monday August 10, 2020 @03:03PM (#24112799)
I agree with the size complaint. Its unbelievably annoying when I have to embed a bitmap image in a pdf and turn some 75kb jpeg into a 26mb pdf for compat reasons
Re:Flutter for Linux on Wednesday July 08, 2020 @05:35PM (#23774509)
Flutter only falls back on the canvas, it avoids using anything but html elements if it can. Fancy animations tend to resort to the canvas

Re:Flatpak – A Security Nightmare (2018) on Sunday June 14, 2020 @07:25PM (#23522330)
I still love flatpak, and much of what this article states is hostile and outdated. The "XDG portal" specification makes filesystem access less popular then before. Also, "fakepak"? Really?
Re:Flatpak – A Security Nightmare (2018) on Sunday June 14, 2020 @07:22PM (#23522313)
Flatpaks use a git-like tree of hashes, which cant just be shoved into random places on your filesystem. It has an exports directory you can symlink or add to your path.
Great stuff, but it doesn't seem to search titles
Re:Sharedrop – Easy P2P file transfer powered by WebRTC on Tuesday June 02, 2020 @11:41PM (#23399434)
There are many of these webrtc file sharing services. Most of the time, the traffic ends up getting relayed.

Windows has moved several legacy features to the "Add and remove windows features" menu, but not nearly enough
Why are we posting this guy? It seems like he's always just trying to make it into headlines. "AI will kill us when its made in 3 years when we get into mars" sure dude! Good luck on getting into twitter trends again, Elon.
Re:A look at modern PHP on Tuesday May 05, 2020 @06:05PM (#23085639)
There is lots of effort by Rust devs, even if the libraries are not as mature or easy. I don't believe you meant to be disrespectful here. I think better a better words could be any of manpower, maturity, or time.
Interesting comparisons of a GNOME volunteer to Stalin. Also found it very interesting that the author put inclusivity in quotes.

I prefer https://glitch.com for this type of thing, because it works so well for kids. I love how people on it can ask each other for help in real time. Its a great site and community
gconf is like the windows registry how? is it just because its a centralized config store? how evil is an annotated, easy to use, non archaic file that some apps put their settings into?
Re:Dataset of VCs investing in seed and Series A+ rounds on Wednesday April 29, 2020 @03:07PM (#23022888)
This doesn't seem to hold up at all. What about using bots to scrape a page, they dont see the EULA but still can violate licenses.
