Re:AI Proved the Quasi-Riemann Hypothesis. What Happens Now? on Monday October 19, 2026 @11:26PM (#50160995)
Not to any great extent.

It’s the equivalent of unrolling a loop into a series of individual linear statements. You’ll never derive monadic forms from that. It requires a far greater intelligence to think that up. As nature can’t speak our language, we have to rely on the stupidity of humans instead to help discover its beauty. So we are stuck with mathematicians.

People, mathematicians, of course care about answers. But they deeply care about how those answers were derived and they’ll duel if they find a given thing looks ugly. People have invented entire fields because shit didn’t look right or left gaps in reasoning or understanding. Take quaternions. Take calculus.

AIs aren’t super intelligent and these grifters and charlatans need to be laughed out of the room.

It is unfortunate to see what happened to terry tao but not at all surprising. He endorsed the snake early on thinking the snake was a friend. It was only a question of time before it would turn on him to bite him.

Re:Developing Taste on Monday October 19, 2026 @10:15PM (#50160552)
Articles like these are trite bullshit. Loads of great talent across the greater world of art that goes unrecognized. Nobody would call it good taste because hardly anyone can recognize it as such.

Taste doesn’t matter when slop puts food on the table.

Write the article you’d rather write: how to make money. That’s the main slant here of wanting to have differentiation. “Taste” was a marketing tool by Jobs telling people what they wanted to hear. This is why it’s called people management. You calibrate output based on input. If someone is receptive to being complimented, you give them a compliment while taking their money.

Don’t beat around the bush.

Re:Off-Topic: the non-technical side of Hacker News on Monday October 19, 2026 @07:56PM (#50159580)
Strange. I find most HN non technical. The technical commentary is often opinionated, sometimes factually/technically incorrect. Even in aspects of programming and even something as commonplace as React, it’s amusingly wrong. Don’t ask anything about biology, health or fitness.

Actually overtly technical content is in places like, for example, hackaday. Or science.com

Well done DHH!
Re:Code Is Clay Now on Monday October 19, 2026 @07:49PM (#50159533)
I look forward to the day when the broader industry realizes code was never a bottleneck, and you still have to answer to the market to make money.

This piece, while valid, puts way too much emphasis on code. I don’t want to dismiss the author, but they’ve yet to see how little of a shit the business gives about code. This has been perennial.

Some development houses have always done sketches, proof of concepts or prototypes. Not because code was expensive or inmalleable, but because they didn’t know what would be a success. Even if it did not take forever to build the thing. If I told you what the perfect product was and how to make a boatload of money, you’d be ready with an army of programmers. But life and business rarely work out that way.

Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Monday October 19, 2026 @05:57PM (#50158649)
This is a propaganda piece.
I find it amusing to hear these anti-dhh rants. These old schoolers should remember the old “Rails is a Ghetto” rant. It’s got much of the same technical criticism in there. DHH was never a star, but he’s good at marketing.

I really enjoy Ruby, rails, and agent-driven development. So I’m probably not the target audience. To each their own.
