They still need 10% float and 1 year of bake time, so the rules are still doing some work for us
Please study the venn diagram below:

Veterans generally don’t need additional support or benefits. Disability is basically a second pension at this point. SCD for veterans under 45 has risen from 16% in 2008 to 39% in 2022 [0]. If you know any young veterans, then anecdotally you will see this is true. You can (and should) get partial disability for all kinds of aches and pains that in a normal career would go ignored.

tl;dr The best ~AI's~ LLM's slop asymptote is 10 hours.

Restated, if you let the best LLM chomp on a task for 10 hours, the output becomes slop.

* These tasks are of the type that you spend 1% of your SWE career working on.

* Each task is primed with an essay length prompt.

* You must play needle in the haystack for bugs in 10 hours worth of AI generated slop.

My experience trying AI coding at work and my observations of AI evangelists makes me believe AI coding is exclusively the purview of people who willing to handhold an AI at half pace to achieve the same result while working on software which amounts to greenfield/toy problems.

The danger of LLMs to thought work is enormously overstated and intentionally overhyped. AI : StackOverflow :: StackOverflow : graybeard in basement

It would be cool if AI kills all thought work, but what will actually happen is a undersupply of SWEs and a second golden age of SWE salaries in like 15y.

Re:Luce: First Electric Ferrari. Designed by LoveFrom on Tuesday February 10, 2026 @06:25AM (#46958266)
If you're buying an appliance, why have it manufactured by Ferrari? Modern cars, especially electric ones, are not exciting in any way as cars. Only agenda motivated e car foamers pretend otherwise. Electric cars are exclusively exciting as commodity transportation.
Even if their negative impact is a fantasy, they provide no benefit. There is no reason we shouldn't ban them.
Re:The Banished Bottom of the Housing Market on Thursday November 20, 2025 @12:38PM (#45995289)
I swear it's as if these people have never met a crackhead. Crackheads are a destructive creature with the sole animus of getting high. This is why they live on the street: they have specced themselves as crack-pures and stripped all nonessential attributes like a job, shelter, or biological needs. The invisible hand of poverty isn't keeping people on drugs- it's the drugs.

All that to say an SRO facility full of crackheads would be hell for anyone to live in. It won't solve the homelessness (aka crackhead) problem, but I can imagine it would enable the tiny minority of non-crackhead visible homeless to get a place to stay. Any SRO that sets rules to stop antisocial crackhead behavior will just put crackheads back on the street. They will always pick drugs over shelter.

Soft hand, empowerment type solutions aren't going to fix crackheads. Only forceful measures like institutionalization will. I've seen too many otherwise normal friends and neighbors end up as crackheads on the street. Unfortunately thanks to neoliberalism this sentiment will remain unpopular for my lifetime and we will be doomed to suffer.

Re:Thoughts on (Amazonian) leadership on Monday September 01, 2025 @05:27PM (#45096777)
H1Bs risk deportation when they are fired. It is inconceivable for this to not impact their performance and behavior. Combine that with Amazon's Jack Welch style stack rank and firing of the bottom and it becomes even worse
And you'd be two nuts short of masculinity if you support anything that benefits others over yourself, your family, and your own community.
I don't want to compete with pollution, child labor, slaves, extreme hours, and poverty-tier living conditions
> These are the sort of things the poor and middle class voted for. To make the rich, richer.

Experts show saving 7.1337% at Walmart is worth losing your job to offshoring!

I haven't seen meaningful change for poor or workers with a decade of Democrat policy, so pardon me while I ignore that and vote for some tariffs.

Ah that makes quite a lot of sense and I'd definitely find myself with that bad habit if I tried flying. In a sim my purpose is to have fun flying the plane by the seat of my pants but flying in reality would have me anxious to avoid breaking any rules.
Flight sim experience causes "over-fixation on instruments"? I'm surprised, I would have expected the opposite.

Yes, occam's razor would suggest the government randomly decided exactly now was the time to start working in our best interests, and also those interests are super secret and have absolutely nothing to do with recent geopolitical happenings nor anything to do with the stated beliefs of the politicians driving the government.
Re:Fraud, so much fraud on Saturday September 28, 2024 @12:31AM (#41677885)
Aw shucks, better luck next time. I bet each of you hackers possess exactly the humanist, ethics focused, inclusive, science based, data driven solution "we" need to fix this problem. If only it wasn't for those bad people who made this bad system turning all the good people into bad people!
So each factory is purpose built to its ingredients OR you pray you don't get thrown in jail because a crumb of sesame was missed in the deep clean and some dysgenic child had an asthma attack?

What's weird is you pretending your model of the world is tied to reality when all it is tied to is ideology. Make bullying legal again.

Great point. We should remove all the ramps too, to ensure we remain ideologically pure while having cheap, possibly allergenic bread.
Interesting argument!
> It doesn't seem unreasonable to receive more punishment when you have more control over your negative behavior

I think it should be the opposite. Because I am superior, I should receive less punishment. Inferior people should receive more punishment so they are incentivized to become superior or disappear.

Re:How did the viral Willy Wonka experience go so wrong? on Saturday March 02, 2024 @06:44PM (#39576903)
Your perspective is the product of a rebellious worldview two decades out of date. Your enemies are long dead and your ideas long purposeless. We've contorted ourselves legislating freedom to people who squander it. No group or force limits the common man anymore save himself and the state.

People have shorter lives, less children, lower IQ, lower income, less friends, less wealth, less homes, and less happiness. Your system is broken and your answer is more of the same.

> if bread becomes relatively more expensive than pasta, people buy less bread and more pasta. The CPI basket does not reflect that

That makes sense. But say bread at $1(2023) is objectively worse than pasta at $1(2023); is there any way to account for that? It seems like a generic form of shrinkflation: without holding the basket constant, how do we know we are getting the same value?

To be fair, it could work the other way and the pasta at $1(2023) is better than the bread at $1(2023).

Taking care of yourself is valued at zero. Taking care of a spouse and/or children is valued at greater than zero.

It isn't to say taking care of yourself has no value to you, but it is to say that no exchange of value happens.

Men don't do stuff at home which is evidenced by marriage rates and fertility declining. There is no home to do work in.

> An investigation of median wages can be interesting. The comment only talked about wages in general

Looking at it I find my claim is false.

Median real wages have gone up (excluding the last 5 years or so). I could make an argument from inflation being wrongly calculated (due to stuff missing from the basket, or housing excluded, or shrinkflation, pick your poison) but I'm too stupid for that.

Comparing CPI (which includes housing) to median nominal wages over the past 5 years, it shows cost growth has exceeded wage growth. This though doesn't hold further into the past.

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/LES1252881500Q

Total real wages have gone up, while median real wages have stagnated.

Your 62.5% labor force participation rate only aligns with the past if you completely discount women's unpaid and unaccounted work in the home and elsewhere. The male labor force participation rate has declined from around 90% to around 68%.

Thanks to our glorious new economy instead of basically everyone getting a house, spouse, and kid, now many will rent, work and die.
