Disclosure: I work at MS but not on the kernel or anything related to this security bug. Opinions are my own.
I've seen one-line bug fixes introduce many other bugs.
Adding a null check is always suspicious. Is the system in an invalid state? Should it fail fast instead of swallowing the error?
Maybe the code wasn't touched in several years. Maybe the person that wrote it no longer works there. Maybe the code in question doesn't have good test coverage or documentation. There are so many variables to consider when assessing risk of code changes.
Because of the productivity benefits of using public tools instead of internal ones. Devs are more familiar with them, more documentation and examples, morale benefit because skills are transferable to other jobs, etc.
It works fine. We have really good code search tools.
The numbers include test code, utilities, two entire web browsers, UI frameworks, etc.
Apple uses grayscale font rendering too, not even pixel aligned. It looks nice because all of their devices are high DPI.
Font rendering was improved in the Anniversary update. It should use ClearType in most cases on landscape monitors with 100% DPI.
Many of the built-in Windows 10 apps are written in C#.
I don't understand why it's even controversial to call this a Muslim ban. It's a ban on people from Muslim majority countries, except for religious minorities in those countries.
This is not the only issue people are protesting.
Debating with sophomores is about as fruitful as debating with holocaust deniers.
So your argument is that if you didn't do what was right before, you shouldn't do what's right now?
By any reasonable human being's standard.
The electoral college was created in part to prevent unqualified candidates from becoming president. It failed spectacularly.
> When they are available it is usually 5$ for a "rental". Is that a joke? I used to pay that at Blockbuster, and they had a physical location and employees!
We're never going to get anywhere until people understand that cost+ pricing is not a thing.
They should require larger vehicles. Cramming three people into the back of a compact sucks.
Is there an official blacklist of disapproved websites? If so, isn't that a form of censorship?
Classic alt-er redirection. It doesn't matter if Obama started it, what matters is what we're going to do to stop it.
Nazism should be swiftly kicked in the ass whenever it rears itself.
This is naked white supremacism. For as much bullshit as we've heard about political correctness, why not just come out and say this is straight up religious and racial discrimination?
Basic human rights are not up for debate. Women and children fleeing a war should not be turned away. In the US, we believe everyone deserves life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Empirically, it wasn't 50/50, not even among the percentage of the population that actually voted.
So what? Don't be outraged because we weren't outraged enough before?
So he believes in racial segregation but is not racist?
Spot on. In his ABC interview, he cited San Bernardino and 9/11 as reasons for this ban. The attackers in San Bernardino were a US citizen and Pakastani and the 9/11 attackers were from Saudi Arabia. Neither covered by this ban.
Not me.
You're right though, the biggest problem is all the people cheering this on. I read "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" and this seems to be escalating even faster.
This is absolutely ridiculous. Nationalism needs to be nipped at the bud before it spirals out of control.
These orders should not be followed. Nuremberg defense doesn't hold up.
