Re:Malware uses LLMs to rank victims by how much they're worth on Saturday October 31, 2026 @04:13PM (#50319674)
Bot's enable discovery of information or exploits at a scale that we cannot imagine.

Recent example of a breach, they are now using AI to decomp APKs and iOS apps, mainly old builds of apps that nobody would bother spending the time on previously to look for secret keys or accidental information disclosure.

This would have been immensely time consuming with each app usually doing things a bit differently (e.g. encrypted + compiled settings, keys in database, settings in a settings.json).

Now you can automate the entire pipeline, this is actively being used to look for legacy API endpoints that may not be hardened or monitored, or if you don't rotate your keys and at one point disclosed them.

I work in security and while things are grim, it's not even close to this.
250tk/s is really the sweet spot for chat IMO, results from Flash were fast and usually good quality.

Curious to see if oled actually helps battery life. My experience with OLEDs are they absolutely drain power on white scenes. My oled monitor pulls ~90w on a white screen, you can feel it get hot like an old CRT.

I had a Dell OLED 4k laptop 4 years ago that depending on screen brightness would absolutely murder the battery.

I would sure hope they split tunnel their VPN so all traffic isn't going through the VPN...
Life really does have a way of humbling you. I always viewed all the rules as being some remnants of Americas "Puritan/Christian" values.

Now, just 5 years later I squarely believe nobody should be touching this stuff, it's basically worse than Blackjack or Craps in every way.

Never thought I would see myself aligning with the more "Puritan/Christian" values.

You hear that? Sound of a few dozen venture backed companies dying instantly.

Personally I still find it more reliable than not using it at all.

Plan mode tends not to ask as many questions and go as deep, so often edge cases and other details get missed.

I am like one more Microsoft / Chrome update away from switching entire company to Firefox.

The absurdity of every week another AI feature, another way for data to leak to their services, another crash report.

They are exhausting and abusing their positions of power.

Problem is for most of USA utility scale = utility profit for share holders.

For example Duke is for profit here in Florida, and charges about 25% more per KWH than OUC that is a public utility.

This leads to pricing where on one street your power bill is $250, but one street over its $200, often coming from the exact same power plant.

I do agree they were unreliable before, I even moved my current org to GitLab because of it.

That being said, they are definitely even less reliable now due to demand.

People want to dunk on GitHub, but honestly going from 50M of <thing> per day to 2B <thing> per day will break pretty much any system anyone has ever built here. Even if it was over the span of ~8 months, many things will fall over and then as you patch those the next domino will fall.

I feel bad for the team, but will be great growth opportunities for all.

Someone needs to inventory all the accounts that go dark on social media so we can flag them going forward.
I really don't care to click anything in a terminal, and I don't understand why its being added more and more.

When Claude added it, I immediately hated it since you click into the terminal and accidentally click something.

rsync and sftp, like god intended
Re:Decisions API is in public beta on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @09:57AM (#49992990)
When I first saw the launch with "System One" and "noul" I already knew they had some marketing person pushing this internally because you can swap it all for "classifier" and "boolean".
Re:Decisions API is in public beta on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @09:51AM (#49992904)
I know several people working at UHC that have access to the big 3 providers and switch between them freely, both agentic and in-editor AI.

They even negotiate with all three aggressively.

So not really.

Re:Google Playground: Create and play custom games on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @09:43AM (#49992792)
I do kind of believe this is the "end game" at this point.

"Friend-slop" has already proven wildly successful, and significantly lower effort than AAA games.

Combine this with the fact your game will be stolen and put into Roblox, it really feels like we're approaching a era of just rapidly produced games that live for weeks rather than years.

My man it will be a double click, easier to install than Steam torrent by the end of the month.

They already have BOTW torrents that are pre-setup and as easy as it gets.

I refuse to believe an LLM implemented bubble sort without being prompted.

Feels like AI hit a key point in these last releases where their ability to edit videos jumped significantly.

Someone at work recorded a demo of a new feature using Claude + https://github.com/veedstudio/open-edit

It was pretty slick and he said he only did two passes on it. Not sure what it means for Adobe, but hopefully it lights a fire under them.

Re:RuneScape's Position on Gen AI on Sunday October 04, 2026 @12:22PM (#49955272)
Gamers have to be one of the most interesting groups of people. I'll define "gamers" as people who spend more than 40 hours a week playing games, and probably overlaps significantly with streamer consumption.

Extremely needy, demanding, and simultaneously spineless.

Riot releases a $500 skin and make a million dollars, GTA6 has a $400 edition that doesn't include the game, and of course the OG horse armor.

Outrage after outrage, yet they keep on buying.

Additionally, 99% of them have no clue how hard it is to build a game, at any scale really. They don't understand where corners have been cut, and that it's possible to use AI without cutting corners.

They quite literally demand the world despite having never created a single thing themselves, blindly consuming, never producing.

Personally, it makes no sense to build a game without AI. A lot of code is needed and you need to iterate on it, perfect use case for AI.

Art, buttons, sprites, and models, often need rounds of iteration, why not start with a basic set and work on it?

There's nothing wrong with iterating, there is plenty wrong with slop (like the 6 fingers in the trailer). So let's be mad at the slop, not the AI itself.

Re:We're working on a new RuneScape MMO on Sunday October 04, 2026 @09:33AM (#49953794)
I learned programming writing Runescape Macros in Pascal and later Java.

Honestly still enjoy writing automation today because of it, I've gotten to use a lot of the skills I learned from OG RS at work.

Love this framing, most industrial warehouses easily use 500kw in power (the EU level for self reporting water consumption), but nobody is drumming up a water war on them.

For whatever reason people have clung onto this idea that the "Gotcha" to slow down AI is to worry about water consumption, and it's an idiotic gotcha.

It's probably because that 500kw number is too arbitrary. I work in a single warehouse with robotics based logistics that uses 500kw. Nobody is asking us how much water we use.

Reality is if a regulation is too broad it tends to get overwhelmed and dies when it requires 100 people to enforce.

Even a basic in house data center can push 100kw with a few servers.

What do people get out of being so reductionist?

Every time a new model comes out, people come out in droves "oh I don't notice anything different".

People have been saying this about <currentModel-1> for 2 years now, and the entire state of AI has changed dramatically.

It cannot be that the next AI model isn't better, but also suddenly what they are capable of is on an entirely different level.

It's more or less confirmed the 20x plan is being nerfed and a $500 plan is next.
His example of writing your own automation to read resumes is actually a terrible use case.

AIs are very good at writing tools that convince other AI that your resume is the best, when in fact its complete bullshit.

I do agree with his idea overall, recently at work we've had QA (as in pharmacy QA) wanting to use Claude to help automate some pipelines between PowerBI and Sharepoint. Was cool to see people who are not very technical pick up Claude Code. Of course agent safety is the big problem really..

Re:An SR-71 Blackbird Has Vanished (Updated) on Friday September 25, 2026 @10:23AM (#49845108)
Waste of money as boomers in charge (BiC) continue to chase the glory days of America.

How many observation drones can you build for the cost of this program? 10,000? 100,000?

What is the point of this in modern warfare?

Re:Mercury 2.5 LLM hits 770 tokens per second on Thursday September 24, 2026 @08:14AM (#49829550)
Not been my experience, I have it using tool calls in a video game I am building and it correctly adheres ~99% of the time.

I have it retry on failure, but you should do that with any LLM really.
