Re:dotNET (OK, C#) gets union types on Saturday May 23, 2026 @07:23PM (#48252607)
As a big user and fan of c# but this is a miss, as it always boxes value types.

I assumed everyone has that.. and that its the last output of a receptor dying.
Re:PNG Is Back on Thursday June 26, 2025 @06:36AM (#44386025)
I'm worried that by supporting too many encodings and color spaces this will hamper adoption and unexpected unsupported files. Perhaps this is more of an encoder/decoder library issue, which hopefully will give us rec2020 rgb32/rgb10a2 encode/decode apis so we can simply use them without having to know so many details.

Re:SDL3 new GPU API merged on Friday August 30, 2024 @04:13AM (#41398704)
No committee and motivated devs that need the result for their projects. Especially the FNA folks.

Glad to have contributed to the dx12 part :)
We used Lua in the past, but mostly because doing quick iterations in c++ in that project was unrealistic due to 10+ minute build times.

Re:What it takes to pass a file path to a Windows API in C++ on Sunday September 24, 2023 @09:49AM (#37633100)
linux uses utf8 for display of filenames but, the paths themselves allow non-utf8 byte sequences.

Hopefully a movie format
The video quality makes it seem like even at full attention you would see it too late, but most eyes see a lot better than that. Ofc the driver here is paying near 0 attention.
There is a reason they try and push folks to the Store....
Society doesn't want personalized tutoring, they want cultural harmonization and daycare so the parents can work and society can remain stable.
That hasn't been true for optimizing compilers either.
Sounds like a low cpu overhead compression approach would have helped here, something like lossy lz4 :)

Ha, yup, I enjoyed adding that to the game :) It was inspired by the system dwarf fortress used at the time extended with pressure to allow equalizing vessels.
Re:QOA, the Quite OK Audio Format on Thursday February 02, 2023 @09:57AM (#34627332)
Very interesting, when better formats like vorbis were too cpu intensive for my game I ended up with striped and delta encoded wav compressed using lz4hc for something that was somewhat compressed, streamable and light on the cpu, this seems somewhat close to that.

You did a few weeks of work and made 20K, sounds like a good deal. The folks getting the bonusses worked for years.
Re:Ask HN: Is your memory as bad as mine? on Friday December 02, 2022 @02:13PM (#33835319)
Yup, it's been improving again lately, had to take close to a year off due to burnout, also vitamins, sport, sleep, and more time with irl friends/coworkers. Now back to a point that feels like 80% of preburnout.
