Both. The paper mentions using a deblurrer and novel view synthesis model(ExBluRF).
Thinking about war is not a problem. It is in fact necessary for the armed forces and the defense industry writ large.

Banning thoughts and categories of thinking is tyrannical nonsense.

I think we all know where free speech went, the same place as your ability to think about an action in the hypothetical.

I'm not advocating for war, just describing the truth as I see it.

I would hope saying the truth about the tensions would encourage people to back down.. or at least isolate the most aggressive player out from the herd of peaceful participants.

The 'pretty picture' is that everyone defends their own trade lanes and we get on with life.

You're right I do enjoy thinking about war, it makes relationships clearer. I don't want war.

Zeihan's predictions on the UK are a continuation of what Mosley started in the 1940s.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYLoW7Mn6CY

The UK is terminally tossed to and fro between the US and Russia. In the long run, the UK will become as tiny as Australia is today.

The time will come when you see that you can't age-gate a war over resources.

Putin can't step down from his role, the people who put him there will make sure it ends badly for him. The people in these conflicts all want to make sure their reserves stay safe, it only takes one Houthi rebel to ignite the tinderbox.

No matter what age that rebel is.

You are not given a choice to opt out. You are included in an ever-increasing dragnet of surveillance. The incentives are set up for it.

You either play the sisyphean game of personally blocking a billion dollar company from including you. Or you reach for the long arm of the law.

We all know FAANG gave us no choice but to use government ruling.

Women are also resentful of their partner's success and their egos can not take it.

The paragraph you quoted, Ely's husband sounds jealous of the attention she got and her control over the company. That can happen in any kind of partnership.

You're dragging up sexism, where it is not the primary problem. Why?

Re:Endless Censorship Demands from Brazil on Tuesday April 09, 2024 @12:44AM (#39976240)
He does it to individuals and says as such in interviews. You have free speech, but not free reach.

Twitter will limit the number of eyeballs that see your content if Twitter doesn't like what you have to say.

Yeah and the whole reason China is a military threat is because McArthur got shot down by Truman and military tech is constantly stolen from the U.S.

Australia has to design and build it's own weapons to realistically have it's own political will.

We've seen it time and time again. People like Australia shirtless and plunderable.

Re:Insurers Are Spying on Your Home from the Sky on Monday April 08, 2024 @05:00AM (#39967670)
It was a rhetorical question. Why not increase surveillance to 24/7.

There is no defrauding going on. You don't own someone's behaviour or property simply because you "insure" them.

You get to reject claims and put your opinion on what "fraud" is, through the proper channels.

Taking photos and dropping customers is going around the proper channels and tyrannizing your customers.

How that is not obvious to everybody involved, is beyond me.

Drop the pretense and install a command economy again like the 1940s. You are leaning in that direction anyway.

Re:Insurers Are Spying on Your Home from the Sky on Monday April 08, 2024 @02:04AM (#39966661)
A trampoline used with no injury, is not defrauding the insurance company.
Same Nazi and far-right hatred phenomenon in Australia. It's a global thing.

Having British roots attracts pressure from the locals. Ironically enough, given the countries' origin.

Re:Insurers Are Spying on Your Home from the Sky on Saturday April 06, 2024 @11:47PM (#39958037)
Demanding an inspection is a process that can be organized and scheduled around.

Your friend brings over a trampoline for Timmy's birthday party, you can take the risk of injury with no intent to claim on insurance. You can remove it before inspection.

Now you get pinged out of the blue by a satellite.

Adults don't need constant supervision. Should you believe they do, why not leave a multi-camera drone above your suburb and every insured house can be monitored for infractions 24/7.

There is no reason for the insurance company to withhold the image as evidence of a problem. Google Maps knows where my trampolines are, why is the insurance company hiding their cards?

An insurance company that surveils you 24/7 and makes sure you comply, is not covering any risk, it's a protection racket.

Oh come on. If Shinji's father had given him a 15 minute brief and debrief for every battle, that job would have been another day in the office for Shinji.

He could of had a normal life, but the show sets him up to be trapped in hyper emotional relationships, influencing him to make irrational decisions all the time.

He's a high school guy being manipulated by everyone around him, to fight battles he doesn't understand.

Then you won't have a society pretty soon.
The chase to capture consciousness can't really end in anything better than a false reproduction. Similar to a Hollywood film being a false representation of a fantastical real life event.

The next scientist inspired by this chase, will flesh out the Epicurean claim "the soul dies with the body". He will find out exactly when and where consciousness dies with the body. And the next Dante will condemn him to Hell for it.

The way some men's eyes light up when they dream of understanding and capturing the soul, rings alarm bells. Wanting something you can't have is dangerous.

Re:Google to delete records from Incognito tracking on Monday April 01, 2024 @08:05PM (#39900920)
I understand why people fall for it. It's called private browsing. Privacy used to mean seclusion from the knowledge and observation of others.

Now it means only you and a slew of corporations and government agencies from all over the planet, can know what you're doing and the data is stored in a massive database for eternity.

Seclusion from the knowledge and observation of others is still a worthwhile endeavor and I sorely miss it. It is very difficult to nurture your own mind when your body is constantly "on the record".

Re:Can We Get Kids Off Smartphones? on Saturday March 30, 2024 @08:14AM (#39874110)
It was much more fun playing outside in nature when you could grow your knowledge of life and consciousness by playing with friends.

Now that has taken a back seat. Growing your consciousness by observing videos, learning and playing games is the norm for kids.

Simply knowing that you could be expanding your mind tenfold on a phone, while you're outside throwing sticks and climbing trees, kind of ruins the fun of exploring outdoors.

Don't cheapen the word genocide and don't use the word holocaust.

Take the words seriously so that they never happen again.

You're in a war. Famine and bombs are a war.

Re:Antitrust suit could force Apple to reveal its secrets on Wednesday March 27, 2024 @09:48AM (#39839049)
It stripped out all the context I wanted to see.

The article is hyper focused, and manages to say very little about what's going on.

Re:The closure of a Methodist chapel on Tyneside on Tuesday March 26, 2024 @04:05PM (#39832235)
They're not communities, they're just activities that are attended by a friendship group.

Church is way more meaningful than that. Baptisms, deaths, marriages are run by churches and the meaning can survive the majority of attendants not showing up.

The problem in modern society, is teaching the meaning behind churches. It takes longer than a couple cycling classes and is more demanding on the spirit.

Maybe other cities. Perth is not. I breathe much better when I get 75kms out of the city and become a normal human being again.

The smell of sulfur in 91 Petrol is very noticeable. Bushfires blow smoke across the whole metro area. One in three Australians are allergic to grass pollens.

Combined with the recent architectural changes (installing the world famous blender Default Cube everywhere) and increasing cliquey isolation, it has become quite difficult to enjoy the city life.

It's often a battle not to leave.

Though I'm not supposed to say the truth so much, it bothers people.

Not sure why Australia passed. With the bushfire smoke and unrefined sulfurous petrol (150ppm sulfur on the cheapest petrol) and grass pollens.

Outside the cities it is wonderful.

Re:Tests for Consciousness in Humans and Beyond on Sunday March 17, 2024 @06:44PM (#39738728)
The solipisist can't find reason to form agreements with others. Others are mindless in his view.

He can't define consciousness in terms of what we agree, there's nobody to agree with.

So the game of describing the color red to others, cannot be played to any meaningful end. Red is red to the solipsist.

Coming up with your own interpretation of consciousness is an ability truly conscious people have.

It can never be completely agreed upon in a philosophical conversation without dogma or compromise.

Both solipsism and total agreement, cannot be truthfully used as philosohical tools to contain consciousness.

Re:Is Modern Mass Media a Mind Prison? on Friday March 15, 2024 @08:42PM (#39722222)
Some 'Normal' people are losing their minds too.

The double stack effect of people losing their mind in real life and then finding an echo chamber to blame it on, is hard to escape solo.

Critical thinking and solid reasoning goes out the window too easily.

Yes, I think it is healthy to disengage with IFS at every conceptual level.

There is no recourse except not to play. The end user has no choice. Sounds like a dictatorship.
Re:What it's like living without an inner monologue (2020) on Thursday March 14, 2024 @02:17AM (#39701025)
Oh God, I lost my friend to that cult. There is a lot of resentment, anxiety and emotional turbulence for members of IFS.

Constantly nurturing internal representations of the world, leaves very little time for nurturing one's self. It creates a sense of accelerationism.

I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

No intellectual property protection means you destroy the next generation of scientists.

It's dumbfounding to watch everyone equate piracy with hollywood movies, while the real innovators and scientists get thrown under the bus by theivery.

It is order of magnitudes more difficult to spend 10years studying something when your work can be stolen and reproduced at any moment.

The world is broken and ctrl c, ctrl v broke it.

Don't expect einstein level scientists and their downstream products that started the computer revolution... you killed the protections needed for the people that made it, cause you wanted movies for free.

It's insanity.

Re:Are We Watching the Internet Die? on Monday March 11, 2024 @05:10PM (#39673271)
They didn't need to trick anyone. They withheld knowledge.

Every tech company agreed they could do whatever they wanted with user created data and the user had no rights over that data.

No user was informed of the full extent of the consequences of agreeing to use new tech... or allowed to alter the 'agreement' tech companies offered the user.

The 'trick' was hiding sales tactics that were illegal in traditional businesses, behind TOS, EULAs and unregulated internet space.

We all know deep down inside that no man would agree to what big tech did, so the deal was made unintelligble to the user.
