If you’re the same Sean Luke I’m thinking of:

I was an undergraduate at the University of Maryland when you were a graduate student there in the mid nineties. A lot of what you had to say shaped the way I think about computer science. Thank you.

What kind of hobby do you have where you’re spending $10k/month?
How impure was the gold dust from the chemical supply company?
Spheres optimize for minimum sogginess. Kellogg could change the marketing angle without changing anything else to be correct.

Maybe. I haven’t done the math.

I want a sequel to Lego City Undercover with the building and driving mechanics of Lego 2k Drive.
This was made before 1899 (or whatever the cutoff date is), and it’s black powder. The ATF does not consider this a firearm.
Is a cannon really a firearm? Was this for an individual, or is it a crew served weapon?
Re:A Washing Machine for Human Beings, from 1970 on Thursday November 28, 2024 @01:38AM (#42262977)
I think the application for this is to return some dignity and independence to people who have physical trouble washing themselves. Of course the form factor of the 1970 prototype wouldn’t do that, but that can be fixed.
Their hardware is cool and bizarre. It has to be seen in person to be believed. It reminds me of the old days when supercomputers were weird.
No one should be watching fifth graders go to the bathroom. “Legal stuff” is not adequate.
Who gets to decide when the camera gets turned off in the restroom?
In my experience, when schools are graded on bullying incidents, administrators avoid reporting at all costs. This program isn’t enough if there are disincentives to reporting at higher levels.
Re:The almost lost art of rosin potatoes on Saturday November 02, 2024 @02:41PM (#42028280)
I wonder if similar results could be had by cooking the potato in clay or a salt crust.
“He is an English Englishteacher” gives me a chuckle.
Or just passively key capture everything.
I bet the engineers responsible for this would be so stoked that someone figured out how they solved all these problems.

Re:End of an era: Landsat 7 mission takes final images on Friday September 27, 2024 @04:16AM (#41667637)

Flag Football and 6-player Lacrosse are next up in 2028.
CrowdStrike, ZScaler, and the rest of these people surely have lobbyists that ensure their software is compelled by regulators.
You can’t test idle weapons to make sure they still go boom in real life, so you have to simulate it.
Re:The Great American Rail-Trail on Thursday April 04, 2024 @03:45PM (#39934942)
On what part of that would you want to be during the winter?
What are you looking for? DOE national labs and similar institutions may fit the bill.
You shouldn’t depend on work for a social life, or even social interaction. Moreover, it’s not the responsibility of your coworkers to provide that to you.

Good luck with your career and mental health, my guy.

IMO, an hour spent commuting is an hour stolen from one’s children.

There’s no bright side. Just dark and darker.
Re:A circular 3D-printed concrete bridge on Sunday December 24, 2023 @02:20PM (#38755909)
I’m pretty sure that’s the joke.
Re:The double representation of Goddess Nemesis on Monday November 06, 2023 @04:06PM (#38169012)
For a goddess of vengeance, would that be a quiet or a signaling NaN?
