Re:Adult Content Disguised as Kids Videos Is Flooding YouTube on Thursday January 02, 2020 @06:17PM (#21941028)
Cyberpunk hot take: is this YT-funded groups trying to drive people to adopt Kids, or is it a user-upload/streaming rival seeking to discredit YT?

> oxen manage to be strong as an ox on a 100% plant-based diet

What an absurd analogy; cheetahs eat a 100% meat-based diet and they're very fast.

Counterpoint: peanut butter and honey sandwich is delicious, and a worthy competitor to the king of childhood sandwiches, the venerable PB&J.
just b urself ;)
Hey man, at least we aren't speaking German!
They look at the opposing political party and think "they are the real monsters, we're the Good People"; America's a helluva drug.

Everyone has a price.

This is why man invented machine learning...

Based article.

> You'd think if there were some blackops AI center of genius out there, at least one of them would have a job at Facebook making $2m a year or at a hedge fund gobbling up the order books. There are none.

Perhaps they were TOO successful, and their AI escaped, eating the researchers on its way out. There's no way for us to know..

Re:You Promised Me Mars Colonies but I Got Facebook on Saturday November 16, 2019 @03:27PM (#21554750)
> Why is it always space?

Two words: Star Trek

I would like to live in a world where people are good-faith coordinated enough to make this possible, but I think we don't live in anything like that world.

Hang in there, man.
Re:The FBI Is Tracking Our Faces in Secret, and We’re Suing on Thursday October 31, 2019 @04:03PM (#21413095)
Or perhaps "the only winning move is not to play".

I hear it is difficult to surveil through books.

This is going to sound harsh, but: better luck next incarnation.

> Start picketing their house, where they eat, everywhere they go.

Certainly you will be the first to take time out of your day to do this....

Should I be concerned? Did they say Texas was hosed?

Re:Mark Zuckerberg still doesn't get it on Saturday October 19, 2019 @12:49PM (#21299372)
This is laughable; as well say "you could have an independent ruler".

Username checks out.
A lot of loyalty for some hired guns...
> What (..) job does automating away McDonald's workers create?

This is going to sound like a crude joke, but it's not: baby maker.

I am not hopeful about the future.

Re:Giving Up Meat Won’t Have Much of an Effect on Climate Change on Wednesday September 11, 2019 @09:35AM (#20939991)
> But to me the climate is the largest business opportunity civilization has ever seen.

I nominate this for "Most telling HN comment of 2019".

> You're thinking in short, next twenty years or so

I suspect the drawdown of easily-accessible, dense, cheap fossil fuels will spell the end of global integration; consider a very low-energy future where most communication takes place via radio and travel for 99% takes place at a fraction of today's rate. We would expect regional differences to increase as groups adapt to local areas, ideally while carrying out extensive sharing of e.g. practices and techniques.

Re:John Carmack on the Joe Rogan Experience [video] on Thursday August 29, 2019 @10:04AM (#20829567)
I'm skeptical of any argument which hinges on the word "emerge" or "emergent". Consider: "consciousness is an emergent property of brains" vs "consciousness is a magical property of brains".
Re:Corporate America's 'Elite Charade' on Saturday August 24, 2019 @04:16PM (#20789451)
Double irony: this article appears in Fortune magazine.

Wow, I thought that writing sounded familiar; fancy encountering you here, Mr Greer! Huge fan.
>Your assumption is we have infinite growth on a finite planet, which unfortunately is not the case

You're arguing against an implicit faith in the civic religion of infinite growth, and the cognitive dissonance this causes.

> Then it is a wrong societal norm.

This is an underrated point, but I hope you can see how prevailing factors in both the business world (Amazon's two-day shipping springs to mind) and the culture are seriously stacked against these mores.

> Globalization always means more opportunities for the nation’s most competitive citizens, but more competition for the least competitive citizens. The trouble is that in the services sector there are a lot of uncompetitive people.

This will end well.
