Agreed, Datadog is missing despite being in the S&P 500 as well
Re:The senior engineer death spiral on Monday September 21, 2026 @05:15AM (#49784942)
Strongly agreed. Maybe it's the way it interacts with my ADHD but it makes it really difficult to read through and make sure I didn't skip anything. I need clearly visible sentence boundaries for that and capital letters truly help.

Writers, please think about us neurodivergent people and make the tiny effort of using your shift key please, it's not that difficult.

Re:The Sloppification of Peptides on Sunday August 23, 2026 @08:18AM (#49408211)
"Anyone who’s not been living under a rock knows that we’re in full peptide mania."

No, they don't, it's a very Silicon Valley specific thing and I never heard about them here in France. People need to stop thinking their experience generalizes by default

Both Claude and Codex can code in the cloud, it works quite well!

I tested Jules and while the idea is good in theory, I found the model's intelligence to be very lackluster.

Re:If You Build It, They Will Come on Sunday July 19, 2026 @04:40AM (#48966092)
That's an interesting point and I agree it makes some kind of sense, but is there a source for it?

I live in Montpellier France and all transit has become free 2 years ago. I didn't notice any change in people's behavior at all. Transit is also free in Talinn IIRC and I wonder if they saw something there?

Re:Where Americans Thrive in Europe on Thursday July 16, 2026 @06:08AM (#48932502)
Glad to see my city of Montpellier, France in first place on the list! I really think it's under appreciated. You have the same great weather and openness culture as California, lots of great nature easily accessible and very close, you can go to Paris, Marseille or Toulouse very fast by train, even to Barcelona and Madrid!
Re:Cloudflare Drop on Thursday July 09, 2026 @03:51AM (#48842339)
I'm always really doubtful this is applicable in the end, especially in the EU. You can't give up all your copyright like this
I discovered that recently, it's a very fun way to contribute to OpenStreetMap, and the UI is really well-done, it's totally beginner friendly! I wish there was a way to do more than labeling though, like add simple roads and footpaths
Yeah it seems crazy to me that this is news. Here in France the government officially recommends to avoid screens at all costs for under 3 years omds and as much as possible under 6. There are tons of studies showing it hinders their development.
Re:Google's Antigravity Bait and Switch on Friday May 22, 2026 @01:36AM (#48232397)
I trie to use it, it's actually really bad IMO. It's very slow and often completely misunderstands my requirements
Is there a specific list of countries whee they'll be closing down?
Re:No, it doesn't cost Anthropic $5k per Claude Code user on Tuesday March 10, 2026 @04:35AM (#47320526)
I'm surprised, isn't it forbidden to use the Max plan as part of a company? Just curious, as I thought it was forbidden by the ToS but I'm not sure if I have a good understanding of it
Very surprised and sad to see so many dismissive comments of the book. It's a really popular one in France for a very good reason. It's so creative, poetic and touching that I doubt you can read it and stay indifferent.

If you've never read it, do yourself a favor and do so! It's quite short, and I hope you'll like it.

That looks really interesting! Is there a plan for an Android or web-based version?
Re:Project Europe aims to drive European innovation on Monday March 24, 2025 @02:16PM (#43463879)
Totally agree. Maybe they want less experienced people that can be manipulated into working tons of hours?

In any case, I'm pretty sure that's illegal under anti discrimination laws

Re:The Surreal Magnificence of Fatherhood on Tuesday December 10, 2024 @08:35AM (#42376667)
We actually start what we call "diversification" (=eating solid food) even earlier in France: we were advised by our paediatrician to do it when the baby was 4 months old.

Apparently if you start early and have him try a lot of different stuff (especially potentially allergenic things like nuts), it causes less allergy problems later on.

It's worked very well for us, the kid loves it and feeding him is quite fun (although certainly messy!)

It's interesting to see how different it is depending on the country though!

Re:Yes, Python and Matplotlib can make pretty charts on Tuesday April 16, 2024 @09:46AM (#40051787)
Wow, these examples are amazing!

I've used matplotlib in the past and was disappointed by the final look of the generated charts, nice to know there's hope and I can make them look good the next time I need it :D

Re:Using Lidar to map tree shadows on Monday July 10, 2023 @05:21AM (#36663877)
The French mapping service is starting to do HD LIDAR captures of the whole of France, and some of them are already available: https://geoservices.ign.fr/lidarhd (At the bottom)

I'd be curious to know if you plan to include these in your app at some point in the future?

Thanks for all the work you did on Shademaps!

Wow, I don't know a thing about dataviz but I really liked the website! The real world examples are really helpful to understand why we could use a certain kind of chart. Keep up the good work!
For french, there's a decent website similar to Product Hunt: https://lespepitestech.com/

It has a good following and a weekly e-mail list so it's probably worth it to post there as well

Re:The new age of sleeper trains on Saturday April 08, 2023 @05:31PM (#35497829)
A big argument for night trains is ecology and diminishing your CO2 footprint, which won't be affected by airport efficiency
Re:Sweet Home 3D is a free interior design application on Friday February 17, 2023 @05:37PM (#34841570)
Agreed, I use it a lot for personal projects and it's quite straightforward to use while still pretty powerful. I'd just like to export the data somehow though
To be honest, as a European I think it's a good thing and we're already seeing its consequences: salaries which are way lower than US ones have already started rising, and lots of interesting startups that didn't want to hire us before have changed their minds.

So at least on our side of the ocean it's pretty good! I just hope there's no negative impact for Americans and we can all enjoy this change.

Re:Zas Editor on Friday April 08, 2022 @07:38AM (#30955715)
Wow that sounds like a really interesting editor for Golang! Only missing thing I absolutely need is the debugger+a test runner. Once those are here I think I'll buy a license!
I was wondering about that topic recently!

Before COVID, offering remote was a big differentiator for startups and definitely considered a perk.

Now, it's becoming so common that I guess they should offer something new to attract talent, and I'm wondering if it could be a 4-day week? I'd be very interested by that in any case.

It's pretty standard for France, come work here! :)
Re:Neural.love: An AI-powered HD portrait generator on Tuesday June 15, 2021 @04:52AM (#27512774)
The examples certainly look cool! I was curious to try it until you asked for an account, which I'm not motivated to do just to try this kind of toy service, sorry.
That's definitely uncommon in Europe to work on weekends/holidays/vacation. It's quite frowned upon, and for good reason IMO. Work life balance is important, and there's other stuff to do in life than work.
Re:Stamper on Tuesday April 20, 2021 @06:45AM (#26872925)
Chrome's not the only desktop browser!
Re:The Evolution of Developer Salaries: Looking Back 20 Years on Thursday February 25, 2021 @05:29AM (#26261561)
I'm sorry but you're exaggerating quite a lot. Were are you based? In France this is definitely not the case. Public care works and is efficient enough.
