You don't have to waste money and energy sorting bottles out of the trash if you can just dump a bunch of this bacteria in your landfill.

RPMFusion isn't considered part of Fedora. Yes, it would be nice if RPMFusion served hashes securely.

Latency is a real problem. Distances to satellites in orbit are very long. Also, there is a scalability problem. How many ground targets can a satellite simultaneously provide service to? My guess is, not a lot.

This could be an incremental bandwidth (but not latency) upgrade over existing satellite internet service to remote areas (by transmitting to a single ground receiver that serves a local area), but that's about it.

Re:Servo – Render in parallel on Saturday June 21, 2014 @08:21PM (#7926458)
Does Webkit have a very large API/ABI surface? This seems like a nightmare to implement correctly and maintain.
Re:Servo – Render in parallel on Friday June 20, 2014 @09:34PM (#7923805)
How far out is servo from being the mainline Firefox renderer? A year? More? Pie-in-the-sky?

It happened several years ago.

Re:Who Needs Git When You Got ZFS? (2013) on Wednesday June 11, 2014 @11:11PM (#7881612)
What does CoW have to do with anything?
Re:Who Needs Git When You Got ZFS? (2013) on Tuesday June 10, 2014 @09:22PM (#7876170)
The bad part is bs=1024. That block size will make it take longer.

Often, a sparse file doesn't really emulate a real file well, and you do want a big file full of zeroes...

Why Haskell?
Re:Netflix responds to Verizon on Tuesday June 10, 2014 @12:31PM (#7873549)
This is going very tangential, but no, not all bridges are directly paid for only by people driving on them.

To make public bridges into an ISP analogy, imagine: municipal and state taxes as well as tax revenue from other states (via Federal highway dollars) pay for a municipal broadband network. You may or may not actually use the service, and you pay for it either way. You likely don't have any other choice of ISP. And it's not-for-profit, and the general public and lawmakers constantly clamor and legislate for better service at lower prices.

Re:Netflix responds to Verizon on Tuesday June 10, 2014 @12:13PM (#7873407)
I'd only change it to "... blaming drivers on your toll bridge when you're the one ..."

The drivers (customers) are paying for the bridge!

Re:Red Hat Unveils Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 on Tuesday June 10, 2014 @11:27AM (#7873072)
Sure, but these are mostly just arbitrary caps. xfs performance at 50TB is supposed to be better than ext4 at 50TB. I don't know what xfs actually does over ext4, but I do know a little bit about ext4; on-disk it looks very similar to the ancient Unix FFS. xfs may use more scalable on-disk structures.

Looks like XFS supports concurrency better (both on the request side, and on the kernel<->backing store side).

Re:Show HN: Go HTTP Request Router Benchmark on Tuesday June 10, 2014 @10:12AM (#7872551)
Or just sorting the results by performance, rather than alphabetically.
Many (and I would guess most) don't.
Re:City of Seattle Data Portal on Thursday June 05, 2014 @08:56PM (#7855615)
Seattle is not part of Redmond, which is where Microsoft is. But probably a fair number of MS employees in the city.

Totally and radically unrelated. Next time, please read?
Re:Selection bias and bombers (2008) on Thursday June 05, 2014 @02:59PM (#7853571)
MDMA is a lot easier than LSD, and dumb people get away with just selling Meth (even easier) as MDMA. But ok, maybe some people get away with making synthetic chemicals for some period of time. I don't know that it's necessarily the same people, as opposed to an unending supply of people willing to join the illegal trade. shrug

I expect long-term expected returns of the drug trade are negative, but people aren't good at evaluating risk.

And why would you claim MIT license on the code which you didn't write and has no license listed?

Probably something I should learn more about if I ever have a four year-old.

30-40 a year, mostly from suffocation sounds almost negligible. It seems fine if you crack the window and they know how to get out.
Re:Peek Inside a Professional Carding Shop on Wednesday June 04, 2014 @04:04PM (#7847835)
Debit card fraud recovery is only backed by guarantees from the bank, if they choose to guarantee that.

Credit card fraud recovery is mandated by the federal government.

Yeah. UW feeds a lot to the local Seattle Facebook and Google offices, not just Microsoft. But I guess those satellite offices are a small portion of the larger companies.
Desoxyn is literally brand-name prescription methamphetamine.
It's perfectly legal for Foxit to license their own software to Google to be released under the terms of the BSD license. This would be with Foxit's consent, of course.
Re:The Multiple SQLite Problem on Friday May 16, 2014 @02:10PM (#7756870)
Didn't realize there was a distinction between POSIX locks and flock, thanks!
Re:The Multiple SQLite Problem on Friday May 16, 2014 @02:08PM (#7756861)
Yep. Build objects with -fvisibility=hidden, create a static library with `ar rcs libsqlite.a *.o`, and link your app with it and NOT dynamic libsqlite.
