Re:Product Managers aren't safe either on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:12PM (#50310210)
Execution of an idea is not the only function of a PM. There is product development, customer feedback, outreach, go to market, customer success. I don't see how AI is wholesale replacing customer outreach & go to market but I could be wrong.

I can't believe they wrote a sentence that contradicts it's own claim.

Agreed. Transportation is a public service and economic engine. Subsidizing travel to help supply travel to demand is the easiest and likely most affordable thing we can do to ensure economic volume.
Re:Why Tech Inevitability is Self-Defeating on Wednesday October 01, 2025 @01:58PM (#45440872)
This reminds me of a similar article that might have been posted on here about tech now focusing on hype as the product.

https://rys.io/en/180.html#hype-is-the-product

> In fact, increasingly, hype is the only thing that counts, as larger and larger chunk of investment money is chasing it – to the detriment of everything else that happens not to bolt the hyped tech onto its unrelated but otherwise solid product or service.

> The bubble grows. The line goes up.

> Because the hype is the product.

Ok. So for Musk I would like to cap the money borrowed against his stock portfolio to also be $1.

> FTA: So we're not only going to be treating (or outright preventing) a number of diseases, we're going to be learning more about the cause of these diseases than we ever did before.

Ultra processed foods (UPF) needs a hard look IMO. It's the leading cause of many diseases stated in the article and several others including cancer and dementia.

In the software world I call this an end user discovered issue. But when the issue involves a plane that is carrying actual souls. That can feel very scary.

I am sure this has been resolved by now since its from 2020.

Re:How long til we're all on Ozempic? on Friday October 11, 2024 @06:44PM (#41814601)
That's not a thing when considering how UPF creates addiction to food in the brain. Big Food knows this.
Re:How long til we're all on Ozempic? on Friday October 11, 2024 @06:42PM (#41814576)
I could suppose it's some of all of this. But my money is on UPF. The author of Ultra Processed People has an identical twin in NJ while he lives in the UK and their weights are vastly different.

One aspect is that the US food system as a crap ton of UPF.

"how would you make StoreJogger?"

That is a systems design question and would have been reserved for Senior/Staff+ level hires. I have learned there is a whole delivery framework for providing that answer and I would not ask that of entry-level engineering. Assuming it was entry level.

Re:Southwest Airlines is available on Google Flights on Thursday May 23, 2024 @01:04PM (#40457161)
Southwest Airlines (SW) has still not made an investment in their scheduling and operations software and infrastructure. They will have more operational failures in the future if say a huge store system forces to many flights to be rescheduled. For something so critical to business continuity I find it astounding how little SW has done in that regard. SW also has lobbied alot to derail high speed rail in Texas. Although I am sure all airlines have done that to some degree.
Re:US Employers Brace for 16M Super Bowl Sick Days on Monday February 12, 2024 @02:24PM (#39349113)
I just made the same comment. The expansion of the season now allows for that.
Re:US Employers Brace for 16M Super Bowl Sick Days on Monday February 12, 2024 @02:23PM (#39349099)
Given the expansion of the regular season, the SB is now one week before Presidents day weekend. The NFL could potentially move the season one week back and now have the SB regularly land on the Sunday during presidents day weekend.

I remember seeing the leaderboard rankings before the prize was awarded. If I recall correctly the top two teams were very close to the coveted goal. They ended merging to become one team and spit the prize once they achieved the goal.

Looks like "market conditions" tell me that RTO (return to office) is not happening either.

Sounds like a SISP (solution in search of a problem). Or throwing a solution at a problem not understanding the root issue of it.
Re:The Costs of Microservices on Monday October 30, 2023 @10:53AM (#38070162)
> Once the monolith is well matured and growing pains start to rise, then you can start to peel off one microservice at a time from it.

Curious what is considered a growing pain of the monolith vs tech debt that hasn't been tackled. If the issue is the monolith can't scale in performance then a services oriented architecture doesn't necessarily give you that automatically unless you know where the bottleneck of your monolith is.

username checks out.

Re:U.S. pedestrian deaths reach a 40-year high on Monday June 26, 2023 @10:55AM (#36480405)
To add to this, many US cities adopted Vision Zero in the 2010s with resolutions to end all fatalities involving vehicular traffic in 10 years. Some as soon as 2024. Yet, I don't see any progress showing they have gone to zero for any of those cities.
Re:U.S. pedestrian deaths reach a 40-year high on Monday June 26, 2023 @10:49AM (#36480311)
It would appear Vision Zero in the US is not working.

Came here to say the same.
No chief risk officer?!?!?! Damn! Kind of like the movie Margin Call. Can't see the risk if you fire the entire department and promote a shill that goes along with it all.
This a small reminder that Schwab has trillions in Assets Under Management. Unlike SVB, they can't skip the regulatory stress test audits like SVB could because they are so large. Unless they are fraudulently presenting false data, I am personally doubtful of that.

So, this is literally the market reacting the news of SVB & SBNY going into receivership and taking a dump in the whole financial sector.
