Re:New Tools for OCF Discovery and Device Onboarding on Tuesday January 10, 2017 @04:51PM (#13369446)
OCF is meeting this week in Las Vegas to hammer out some more security ambiguities. But it's looking better and better.

I've seen these pixels before. C is a permanent fixture. It is not going anywhere in your lifetime. You can use it, or not.

For those of us who were unsurprised by a trump win, The Post has nothing left to lose. The MSM has been acting this way for decades, and it is finally obvious to everyone.

The Post is fake news.

Re:Cash is for criminals: Why we should scrap big notes on Monday November 28, 2016 @09:15PM (#13060165)
Singapore has the largest notes in circulation, last i checked (S$8000).

People who want to ban cash don't care about crime. They care about control and management of things that are (by definition) not their business.

To these people, i say: ban bitcoin and gold, and then i might care what you have to say.

That's why the serious discussion happens on 4chan. Say WTF you think, or GTFO.

I also upvoted you. :-)

They're all crap labels. They contain no knowledge. What confused people call "liberals" aren't so about firearms and markets. "Liberal" is from the latin word for "freedom".

SJWs are not liberal. They don't want free speech. CA is not a liberal state by looking at its taxes and firearms laws. These are authoritarian ideas.

Rectification of names... Labels and Knowledge are totally independent things.

Re:Is Silicon Valley Discriminating Against Men and Asians? on Friday October 14, 2016 @09:53PM (#12712367)
IMO, the idea that anyone could know the optimal level of diversity where human choice is concerned is full of hubris.

Also, "discrimination" is inseparable from choice. That there are laws regulating these things is destructive and arrogant. It turns everyone into racists/sexists/whatever.

Portage. I can handle everything else from that point forward.

Gentoo or GTFO. :-)

Yes, that is a fact. Minimum wage increases unemployment. Ispso facto.

No job ---> no self-reliance.

Homelessness is only a short leap from that point.

Simple does not imply over simplification.

CTRL+F "Minimum wage" yields no results in either the OP, or the comments.

That tells me that SF is going to have a homelessness problem for loooong time.

CA has told everyone that they CANNOT work if their time is not worth at least $21/hour. $15 for minimum wage, and ~$7 for taxes on the business to provide that employment. Of course you are going to have these problems.

Downvote me if you like. But you cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality. if you really cared about these people, you'd abolish the minimum wage yesterday.

Re:Why I hate iOS as a developer on Monday October 10, 2016 @12:09PM (#12677922)
You just said the same thing in a less-direct way. Developers stopped working with MS. So they opened up as a survival strategy.
Re:Why I hate iOS as a developer on Friday October 07, 2016 @09:09PM (#12665105)
There was a thread recently regarding "knowledge rot", which is what you are experiencing. Being as it is a closed platform, all of your hard-won knowledge is at the mercy of a board of suits answering to shareholders.

Microsoft finally capitualated, and Apple will too. But the force that causes it is developers refusing to work their plantation.

Re:Reflections of an “Old” Programmer on Thursday October 06, 2016 @08:33PM (#12657306)
The fundamentals of computers have not changed all that much. Every assembly language i've learned is still valid, and their respective architectures are still widely deployed.

I'd suggest not building a house on sand, and learn the fundamentals of how computers and programming language works. Don't learn anything closed-source. It isn't worth the brainspace.

Re:OpenSSL Security Advisory on Friday September 23, 2016 @02:50AM (#12562794)
I agree. But who are you talking to? I didn't see that argument made.
