>Are we really pretending it's equivalent?

Yes, it is equivalent if you live anywhere but America.

Take two failing companies, each with a huge debt load and combine them to form a larger failing company with even a worst debt profile.
Re:Tesla shares tumble 11% after discounts hit profits on Thursday July 23, 2026 @07:42PM (#49029579)
The short sellers of SpaceX have reportedly made over $15 billion already.

Tesla is heading south in a serious way.

The Americans may ban the use of the Chinese models in America. But like the Chinese car ban, everyone else will use them.
So Polymarket did marketing....what a shock.

I love how the bonds are rated above junk.
It is not running on either but Seedance, so who cares?

As compared to AI Grifters Are Making Pro-Data Center Slop With AI

How quickly can we get the movie?
The US capital markets are closer to Putin's Russia than to free markets.

Historically, listing rules asked: "How much money did you make last year, and do you fit our standard corporate governance box?"

Today, NASDAQ's rules ask: "Do you have the massive market capitalisation, sufficient institutional public float, and transparent liquidity to ensure fair and orderly trading?"

Here are the obvious ones:

1. Free float - Every company that intended to list was required to have at least 20% free float.

2. Index weights were based on the free float.

3. Time before inclusion into the Indices (min 12 months) now 15 trading days

4. Lockup period - minimum 12 months up to 24 months - not 180 days.

I wish people would understand that if America had a functioning criminal justice system, no one would have heard Elon Musk nor Donald Trump.

He already has NZ citizenship.
When I read the title, I thought companies were trying to hide the fact that they are using AI due to backlash.
Yes. Competition is not the goal.
>Czechia is richer per capita

This is a very bad measure of anything, especially wealth.

I have a 16-year-old daughter, but when she was in Day Care, one of the Chinese kids wore a Ramones t-shirt. I was so surprised that I asked the parents if they had ever heard of the Ramones. They had no idea what I was talking about.

In Australia, Kmart (Kmart is very popular here) sells lots of retro rock t-shirts. Often from tours that occurred in the 1970s eg Elon John 1974 tour or Led Zeppelin etc.

Australians gamble more than anyone on Earth but the idea that people "invest" huge money, whether or not missiles explode in a country at war is crazy.

It was said Australians would bet on two flies climbing up a wall. But this is madness.

Writing code might be cheap, but debugging code is VERY EXPENSIVE.

Privatisation of everything is an abject failure.
Re:Solarpunk is already happening in Africa on Thursday November 06, 2025 @03:43PM (#45840173)
The figures quoted are way out of date. Solar is already USD 0.11 per Watt and has been for over a year.

Solar is scalable. The cheapest system 10W with a powerbank and phone charger and 3 x 3W LED lights as about USD 20. Next level is more lights and a fan and the high end is a TV and fan powered by solar.

PG has said that he made up the 10% figure. It was a guess, but it was not correct.

Re:Nano Banana image examples on Friday September 12, 2025 @07:16PM (#45227821)
I am not very good with graphics. Yesterday, I used nano Banana to create an image for the front cover of a report. It took about 5 minutes. Normally, I would have spent at least an hour and still would not have gotten as good an image.

The Gemini models save me about an hour a day.

Re:EU court rules nuclear energy is clean energy on Friday September 12, 2025 @07:08PM (#45227784)
Nuclear power is clean but VERY EXPENSIVE.

Dispatble solar and wind are about 1/5 the price of new nuclear.

Safety is not a luxury in Europe. Roads are designed to minimise the chances of an accident.

I have tried to use Blender and have given up several times. My only constant use of Blend is creating animated titles in Ophenshot.

Anything that simplifies using advanced tools is useful.
