Re:Should DayQuil Be Legal? on Monday July 06, 2026 @07:40PM (#48811931)
In the pharmacy in the US there are about 1000 over the counter drugs made if varios combinaciones of about 50 ingredients. Many of them contain acetaminophen. I can see how accidental liver damage can occur.

On DayQuil specifically, the only time I took it I was about as useful as someone stoned. I would have been better off and less dangerous to society if I had just taken rest..

As far as pain management I personally find acetaminophen does nothing for pain and only helps with fever. Similar ibuprofen only helps me with sever muscle pain associated with over exertion or bruising.

Having unfortunately suffered from nerve pain I can say the pain relief opiates provide, even at low levels, is on a whole different level. My experience is that taking them only for pain, when it is unbearable, was not addictive and made pain on the level of I need to go to the hospital bearable.

Just my experience.

Although SPC in manufacturing is an example of measuring the correct goals. I'll give you that one.

I suspect next months article will be pay for performance as measured by lines of code and production issues. Prepare for a 10x increase in code base and zero production changes until after bonuses hit the bank.
Re:Ask HN: What's the "best" book you've ever read? on Sunday October 06, 2024 @12:57PM (#41758454)
Breakfast of Champions by Vonnegut. Like others could change any day you ask. Social commentary is probably at the top followed by well researched recent historical works.
Re:Just use fucking paper, man on Wednesday August 28, 2024 @06:04AM (#41377848)
It's hard to reproduce in digital the feeling of checking off the last to-do on a page, ripping it out, balling it up and then making a 3 point trashketball shot to close out a week.

I remember looking at that screen wondering if my mouse was going to work this time...
I suppose LLM injection vulnerability will be the next security product trend
Do you think company knows or cares?
Every rocket has apogee
I'm confounded. Backup 30 years and replace Microsoft with at&t and it sounds like the chorus line. Somewhere between agile is bullshit and Microsoft is bullshit is something that makes life and work better for all. Where is it?
So, Im grad school I had access to an sgi onyx and basically did this but didn't toot my horn about it because. 1. I didn't think it was particularly amazing 2. We didn't have social platforms yet.

Congratulations!

Nice that you had an ide. I got demoted for having 99.9 percentile SAT score in 7th grade and had only an Atari1040 ST to prove my mettle on.
My Master's thesis was on high performance distributed computing. And my conclusion was you likely don't have a problem that is hard enough to justify it. Thank you for promoting reality!
Re:The case for never reading the book jacket on Tuesday November 28, 2023 @10:50PM (#38455330)
Because the author didn't write it? You're welcome.
Re:Hacking my filter coffee machine on Tuesday November 28, 2023 @10:48PM (#38455321)
Oh fucking hell. This was a repeat of one of the first non private uses of the Internet. If glad you learned something, but nothing novel or new here. .
Re:Do You Still Have the Right to a Jury Trial? on Tuesday November 28, 2023 @10:43PM (#38455278)
Yes! But most likely no.
Re:Unit testing on an 8-bit CPU on Tuesday November 28, 2023 @10:42PM (#38455271)
Um. History? Yes we could control autonomous robots with 8bit cpus in 1993 and we were engineers so we did it with acceptable risk, aka some testing.
Re:To Move Fast, Quantum Maze Solvers Must Forget the Past on Tuesday November 28, 2023 @10:39PM (#38455233)

Re:GitMounter: A FUSE filesystem for Git repositories on Tuesday November 28, 2023 @10:37PM (#38455221)
I think clear case has a patent on this from 1997.

Wow! 1st year digital logic question makes news on YC?
Re:My $500M Mars rover mistake on Tuesday November 28, 2023 @10:30PM (#38455155)
So, some short sighted bean counters combined the EE & CE degrees and you are the result? Ask for a tuition refund!
Re:My $500M Mars rover mistake on Tuesday November 28, 2023 @10:27PM (#38455123)
Congratulations. 102 circuits would have taught this. But some short sighted bean counters merged EE & CE so you didn't get the opportunity. I suggest you ask for a tuition refund as they failed to educate you as they promised.
Re:The camel, the rope, and the needle's eye on Tuesday November 28, 2023 @10:17PM (#38455042)
You didn't research this did you. An eye in a fence is a way to herd animals into a single file line. If only you could undo this...
Re:The Uselessness of Phenylephrine (2022) on Wednesday September 13, 2023 @11:35PM (#37504681)
In my sample size of 1 I concluded this substitute didn't work years ago. And why can't I find an actual good antihistamine Doxylamine succinate sold separately anymore. New crap that doesn't work replaced old working products....
Re:Mcmaster.com is the best e-commerce site I've ever used on Sunday September 25, 2022 @09:32PM (#32978371)
I like rock auto website. It's just business no funny business just straight to the things you need.
Where's my screwdriver... I have to remove some DST toggles.
Awful.. Like a page from a magazine lying on the sidewalk.
I have a local disk for fast backups. A NAS for backups with change tracking once a month. And once a year a disk goes off with a family member to a remote location.
I once worked with a financial product that used CORBA for distributed processing. One chapter of the dev guide had examples of use that were... Let's say not possible with CORBA... I opened a ticket with the vendor, because of course we were paying a large purchase percentage maint fee. I was not part of vendor selection. The official response from the vendor was "please remove that chapter from the dev guide.". Beautiful!

Before you hate on CORBA I submit that my masters thesis was based on CORBA for distributed processing and that, "horror of horrors" it had solutions for many of today's issues.. albeit implemented with tooling that was lacking. Anyone for a game of what vendors RPC implementation this is based on packet dumps?
