The engineers did not say no either though.

I don't see the problem in that to be honest... Especially if the other solution would be allowing private companies to take over our (shared) orbit, meteorites, and -- continuing the trend -- planets for themselves to profit. If it seems overly pessimistic, we can just look at how our own planet's ressources are shared...
Re:A new form of verification on Bluesky on Monday April 21, 2025 @05:17PM (#43756590)
There is a p2p social network (as in, people offering there services whatsoever) in France that does exactly this: it's called "Gens de confiance". It works well, although it creates kind of a gated community (as intended: it is mainly meant for upper-class social circles).
Re:Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting on Friday February 28, 2025 @06:32PM (#43213285)
So did the US then huh?

So free speech is not a constitutionnal right if I follow your argument? You sound quite scary right now... (and I am not even concerned, not american)
Re:Israel shuts down local Al Jazeera offices on Sunday May 05, 2024 @04:22PM (#40267926)
I believe RT (which is Russian but produced some interesting journalism once in a while) was banned in Europe (or at least it is in France). I don't even know what to think about it...
Re:Nicolas Bourbaki on Thursday March 14, 2024 @02:52AM (#39701179)
I would say that in France, Simone Weil really is more known than André Weil! And I suggest anyone to read La Condition Ouvrière (I don't know the title in English), which is not only very instructive and moving, but also specially beautiful in my opinion.

The three mile island incident singlehandly shows that US' concern should be correlated to other countries nuclear incidents. Thinking that it only arrived because of "communism" is quite wrong, especially because of the technical capabilities of the USSR.
If you can understand French or don't mind subtitles, I advise you very strongly to listen the interview Aurore Stéphant gave on the Thinkerview some months ago.

Contrary to what other might be saying, that's not a question we can avoid asking, as there is a physical realities behind the ideal of switching to a fully decarbonated and decentralised grid... Even though that's basically the only thing we can do to keep existing as a specie.

It's quite funny to use! It is better when speaking French than chat gpt3.5 on my opinion
You technically can measure over the nyquist frequency, for example here if you measure 80Hz with your 60Hz camera, you can be sure that either you really did the math wrong with the intended 40Hz, or it is actually the nyquist shadow frequency of your 40Hz oscillation!

Would you mind sharing your script? I'm quite interested to be honest, I've stopped YouTube completely some weeks ago but this kind of interaction is what was good about it retrospectively :)
Re:Space After Periods (1993) on Wednesday July 12, 2023 @04:25AM (#36691772)
It's funny because in French, you are meant to put a space between punctuation marks if and only if they contain two elements.

So you put a space before :, ;, «, !, ? etc but not before ., ,, ..., etc

And I find it wonderful!

If you like cosmology and astronomy, you may love SEA! Its visualisations are beautiful too but not needed

And this option disabled by default of course
Re:Rekt.network on Wednesday May 17, 2023 @11:50AM (#35977066)
I have this problem, happens for perplexity.ai too for example... I never had issue until two months ago, and now I'm locked out of some quite interesting websites
Re:Building a Virtual Machine Inside ChatGPT on Sunday December 04, 2022 @07:07AM (#33852927)
That only works if you have another computer with you to check the hash, but maybe that's actually an AI, and not the other way around?
Re:Twitter’s mass layoffs have begun on Friday November 04, 2022 @10:52AM (#33467704)
Yeah, a what a "waste" to build high-speed trains... I don't even understand how such a gigantic country can even exist without a safe, quick and inexpensive way to transport its citizens (so not by plane or by car).
I guess to analyse your writing style from thousands of billions of messages on Internet in order to simply link two of your accounts together is... overcomplicated?

I mean of course it could work, but except if there is a very special interest for an account, we may need to wait some decades before a list of "linked accounts" containing it in particular could emerge, right?

Re:Lofi.co – Relax and Focus on Sunday May 22, 2022 @04:01PM (#31472145)
That's great, thanks for sharing! However you will soon hit the 2000 songs limit on the playlist, if Deezer did not remove it already.
Re:Geniuses of the past were aristocratically tutored on Wednesday March 16, 2022 @03:57PM (#30703284)
That's true, but in the same time... We still have so much to discover, no matter the subject -- I study physics and, even at my level (not very advanced), there are obviously entire domains that are not clearly understood even by the most brillant minds.

But the problem is maybe that: the amount of knowledge (and intelligence) needed in order to achieve something significant for science is bigger and bigger, and grow everytime a Einstein discovers something.

Re:The Color of Infinite Temperature on Monday January 17, 2022 @06:47AM (#29965626)
Isn't 0 K not allowed by quantum mechanics anyway?
Re:Android in Docker without QEMU/emulator on Tuesday January 04, 2022 @09:04AM (#29794827)
I recommend you to use web.whatsapp.com then, it's pretty decent now (except that it does not support calls)
Re:MS Paint IDE on Sunday June 13, 2021 @05:32PM (#27496703)
This man was really smart...
Re:Fastly Outage on Tuesday June 08, 2021 @06:15AM (#27432727)
Opened my browser, ad my three major Web pages : github, gitlab.gnome.org and old.reddit.com... They all are down.
I guess so, but the problem is that weed is not the only thing that is sold on these markets...

So even if legalising it would make those markets lose profits, they still have a lot of nasty things to sell -- so taking them down is still the best thing to do for the moment, IMHO.

I may be wrong, but the ecosystem does not really change here right? I mean, memory management should be roughly the same between x86_64 and arm regarding the amount of ram used, so I guess 16gb of ram under old macbooks is the same as 16gb under the new ones
Re:Compiler for the M language of the French DGFiP on Friday October 09, 2020 @12:38PM (#24731659)
Actually I was not even aware that they created ocaml nor scilab :/ so I seriously consider visiting this place again in a near future
Re:Compiler for the M language of the French DGFiP on Friday October 09, 2020 @12:31PM (#24731581)
That's funny because the INRIA is 5 minutes away from the place I am studying sciences right now, I did not think I would ever see them top in HN :)
I guess that's great... Now we need other manufacturers to do the same, and IMHO extend this time to be at least of 5 years.
