Re:Alleged Israeli spy company targeted Starlink users on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @11:15AM (#50260616)
Increasingly obvious and annoying, even to most normies, that Israel is nowadays the main obstacle not only to lasting peace in the middle east (and various other regions) but also a major menace to anyone valuing their right to (digital) privacy.
So the United States and its multinationals are meddling with internal affairs of South American countries again? Whats new?
What is the assumed intention?
For SpaceX (and possible the others):

Yes it can, since they changed the rules to force over $30 trillion in passive 401k and retirement money to buy SpaceX at IPO valuations.

From https://x.com/Hedgeye/status/2060435253928604065:

"Rule changes for the SpaceX $SPCX IPO:

Index providers waived the profitability requirement and cut the seasoning window from 90 days to 5.

This forces over $30 trillion in passive 401k and retirement money to buy SpaceX at IPO valuations.

Bloomberg Intelligence estimates S&P 500 funds must absorb 19% of SpaceX's float within 6 months.

Russell 1000 and Nasdaq 100 funds will absorb 24%.

The rules built to protect passive investors:

1. S&P 500 has required 12 months of trading and 4 quarters of GAAP profitability since 2002. Both waived.

2. Nasdaq cut its inclusion window from 90 trading days to 15.

3. FTSE Russell cut its to 5.

All three benchmarks are now structured to buy SpaceX at IPO pricing."

* Their nuclear program was obliterated in June 2026, says even the White house (1)

* The worlds leading sponsor of and spender on terrorism (including financial aid to Hamas) is Israel, by a wide margin (2)

* Claims that “thousands” or “tens of thousands” were killed specifically over water protests are not supported by widely accepted evidence

Now I'm wondering which country is a bigger threat to us and peace in general.

A country on the brink of financial collapse, with a severe drought and one of the last remaining opponents of our greatest ally?

Or a country that "provides funding to both Democratic and Republican leadership teams, often supporting over 90% of targeted caucus members" (3) and constantly wants us to fight their wars?

Agreed. Maybe even more dangerous.

Achieving digital sovereignty is imperative for Europe, in any case.

Re:Will the AI data centre boom become a $9T bust? on Thursday April 02, 2026 @03:33PM (#47619126)
It will be, after the bubble bursts and it will be surprisingly cheap.

Imo most AI compute will happen on-device in the near future.
Public transportation is on a different level and all mayor cities are connected via a high speed rail network.

The latter probably will never happen in the US.

I pay for Youtube premium to not have to see ads and potentially be manipulated by them.

Yet I still have to watch a lot of ads there, since for a large chunk of content creators, the economic model of Youtube doesn’t seem to work and they additionally include inline ads.

Re:Control iPhone with the movement of your eyes Support (SG) on Thursday November 14, 2024 @09:00AM (#42136193)
Amazing how good eye tracking works on my phone (15 Pro).

Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to press buttons via blinking, only by "dwelling" on an item for a few seconds, which makes using my phone feel quite hectic and prone to to inadvertent inputs to me.

Man this is awesome.

I‘m using a somewhat similar stack for an app in development with a monorepo consisting of a Postgres backend (Rails) + Expo (with Router) + Tamagui + Redux Toolkit. And, as one would expect, it’s been quite a struggle, to say the least.

But currently this is one of the few viable stacks imo for a small team or sole developer to serve both native mobile platforms and the web in a decent quality.

So it’s kind of cool that with One there is now a framework available that brings all those great tools together in a polished and structured way.

Can’t wait to give it a try next week. Could make things a lot smoother.

Banks generally support HBCI standard (in Central/Western Europe)

Thats why using apps like Outbank, that automatically aggregate all your bank accounts data work like a charm in my experience.

There are still some high profile people posting great content for free there, especially if you are into tech and/or finance.
Ranger or hunter.
This just is one of many examples which show that designing great User Interfaces is (still) more of an art than science, e.g. rigid math based design systems tend to fail in practice.
Since it is such a common and useful word, I hope Facebook looses this case, as I would find it sad if that word is associated with their company by most people for the foreseeable future.
I would recommend to consume only low THC + high CBD strains.(1)

For me the difference of these strains to some of the modern high THC + low CBD ones is comparable to drinking a good glass of wine versus chugging down some highly potent moonshine.

Some moderns strains are completely overbred and dangerous to some people in my experience.(2)

Knowing the Germans, I‘m optimistic, they‘ll regulate it properly, so that everything you will be able to buy legally, should be quite safe.

Re:FDA to order Juul e-cigarettes off U.S. market on Wednesday June 22, 2022 @10:39PM (#31844577)
This is getting ridiculous imo.

I‘m sure some people find your breath and/or your body odor/perfume gross.

So should they be able to force you to wear a mask or keep a distance of say at least 6ft at all times?

Re:Fly.io: The reclaimer of Heroku's magic on Sunday May 15, 2022 @08:08PM (#31392452)
Does that mean if my webapps get DOSed or something like that, and I can‘t react very quickly, I could face a bill potentially in the thousands of dollars?

Currently considering switching from Heroku, but fixed pricing is a must. I‘d rather they shut down my apps temporality in case something is out of control, then get broke ;-)

Any other recommendations besides fly.io?

Re:Coinbase stock lost over 75% value on Monday May 09, 2022 @10:19PM (#31322645)
Its a perfect metaphor for the kind of environment the FED created in the last few years for risk assets imo.
I was in the same boat when I was younger. After upgrading to a (dumb) projector for movies and gaming (ex shooters), I can’t go back, since the immersion and amount of details I see on a big screen for me is just an order of magnitude better.
Re:I hate what video games have become on Sunday March 27, 2022 @11:30PM (#30826849)
Maybe some use case for NFTs after all. Link the stuff you can get through playing a game or buy ingame for cash to a NFT and boom, players really own that stuff and are free to sell it on the secondary market.

With all the right wing support Putin is getting lately, I can‘t help but wonder if they were at least partially successful in subverting our society.
Re:Vim9 Script Feature-Complete on Saturday January 01, 2022 @04:49PM (#29763202)
I‘m neither pro nor against VIM or NeoVIM, but your comment is imo completely negative and not helpful at all.

I for one are glad for NeoVIM improving upon VIM and pointing out some weaknesses.

Since NeoVIM was released, Bram has been improving VIM much faster than before and even added features like async I/O support, that he previously rejected.

Re:Making the dislike count private across YouTube on Wednesday November 10, 2021 @07:08PM (#29182718)
Is there anything similar for iOS/Apple TV.

Still seeing downvotes in my country, but if they remove this imo important metric, I’ll have to cancel my subscription.

Re:Jetson One – Personal Electric Aerial Vehicle on Sunday October 24, 2021 @11:52PM (#28984351)
Was wondering that too. Also can‘t the rotors be shrouded or does that affect the power/agility negatively?
Re:Apple M1 Max Geekbench Score on Thursday October 21, 2021 @01:18AM (#28940596)
Dell Precision with Xeon CPU … this thing doesn’t even have ECC ram, so it’s a toy and not suitable for actual pros.

Seriously though, your comment lacks, because of your very narrow and specific definition of „pro“.

The vast majority of people using laptops professionally, obviously prefer a MacBook Pro over a niche Dell laptop with a Xeon CPU.

Also the Geekbench score for Xeon CPUs used in Dell Precision laptops is way below that of the M1 Pro.

Without saying this is only good or this is only bad, I honestly think we have reached a level of general wealth, e.g. enough to eat for everyone and enough to endlessly distract everyone (TV, social media, games, etc.), that most people won't really get worked up by such things anymore.
