That’s a good one, either way someone will lose (they are both “evil”) and lose big. I wouldn’t bet against AI companies though.

I've been using encrypted datasets for years without problems. I don't used `send` and `receive` for backups though.

And yet, if you didn't do all that steering, etc... this wouldn't exist. So let them "be" little sore ppl.

ps. What I noticed is that those who created lots of projects before they'll be doing lots of projects after LLMs. Those who used to whine before, they'll keep whining after...

TIL: coppicing
Will absolutely do. Sorry for my remarks, I wasn’t thinking straight. I appreciate your work.

Will upgrade ASAP. Thanks for the amazing product and best of luck with everything.

Yes it’s messed up. I was thinking about pi agent and the extensions getting updates every three hours.
Indeed, I don't think I'm upgrading ever again. I'll stuck with 1.04.2 for a year or two. Feels like a Russian rulette at this point.

> As someone who has to professionally deal with AWS's feature breadth, this does not hit the way you expect.

Hahaha, fair! I meant feature-wise :-P

Re:Wine Ported to OpenBSD on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @01:30AM (#50161718)
The number of OpenBSD contributors, since 2017 is going down. For all the praise the system gets here, the developer team is small. And feature-wise the system is a toy compared to Linux. It's like comparing DigitalOcean with AWS.

Ppl praise the stance of OpenBSD/NetBSD and what-not. That's commendable, but then close the tab, open their spotify and get back to agentic programming for their proprietary company source. But God-forbid if OpenBSD turns anything more than a museum OS, full of purity but with a user-base of five. Because the GPU doesn't work properly, the sound drive is clunjy, wifi might work, etc.

LLMs could port huge amount of drivers to both system with a fraction of the effort. Specs can be implemented easily and properly. Then of course, you need to test and that takes time, but it's technically easier and more ppl could contribute.

I get the feeling, but they're not OpenBSD a favor, if anything else I feel the exact opposite is happening.

Then learn Japanese. No? So you can write broken Japanese and he doesn’t have to translate his words in English for you.

10 is fine. I lays like 70 for a domain that I don’t even use recently :-)

I find the dotted version to be structurally sensible and aesthetically pleasing, compared to alt.

Obviously just a matter of taste and didn’t even spent 3s thinking about any possible repercussions.

Hm, is it "private" for British citizens? I wonder.

I’m afraid it’s going to be a popular runbook if ppl don’t get their shit together quickly.

> So they crawled the web, stole the information to populate their own database and then pretend it was "illegal" for others to steal it back?

These days, this seems to be "modus operandi". The bet is who can get closer to the administration to suddenly enforce the un-enforce-able. For your own safety. You wouldn't steal a car now, would you?

The link you shared says clearly that budget cap made things worse, with data apparently. But they don't think it's the wrong move, it's the right move but doesn't work in the current form.
> Seems wild that they can code and deploy an update of a critical-seeming component in the field like that. I thought such a firmware update would need extensive QA in the lab, along with root causing why this bug slipped through their processes anyway.

These cars are in a perpetual Q&A state, they are getting modified between races. That's true for the "big teams", small teams don't have the resources, they're just "happy to be there". That's why it's possible to see stories like Brawn GP[^1]. That's what makes the sport fascinating, because the overtakes are not as much as one would hope for a ~2-3 hours race. But every little thing counts. In the last race 1st and 2nd had ~103ms diff or something like that for example, which is something that didn't happen for 15-20 years (maybe more).

Plus, looks like everybody is getting one anywayz
Re:Ask HN: What are you reading to your kids? on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @02:22PM (#49912487)
Greek Mythology (PG-3 version), God bless Sir Fry for his books. They are amazing.

Fairy tales I make inspired by some famous tale, but using local geography (mountains, woods, local trees, etc.).

Kid loves both. While early on he was just falling asleep, these days I have to stop because between his excitement and the three million questions the narrative might take 1.5 hours...

Re:Backblaze Drive Stats for Q2 2026 on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @09:55PM (#49903440)
I bought two WD Red 6TB drives for a NAS, and both failed within two years. That’s unusually bad in my experience. Across two other NAS systems I’ve used for 15–20 years, I’ve only replaced drives three times.

One failed drive was replaced with the same model, which doesn’t inspire much confidence. The other couldn’t be replaced, so I received a refund of the original €198 purchase price from 1.5 years ago. The exact same 6TB drive now costs around €340, a pretty steep increase. For the second drive I went with Seagate, fingers crossed.

And that's exactly what the op was alluding two: the double standards.

So, is Altman going to find himself in the same predicament Aaron Swartz faced? :-)

Finally. Can we go eat something now?
Re:Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video] on Thursday September 24, 2026 @02:56PM (#49835296)
Oh c'mon, there were three million ways you could express this feeling with some class... And you went for "can't even get the company names straight" ?

Reddit would have about 15 comments alluding without never revealing, all of them smart, classy and funny. The rest would be complete trash probably.

Carful now. Sounds like Communism.
Re:GPT-6 Sol and Luna on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @07:37AM (#49814529)
Oh. Yeah of course… and the US population will revolt if the figure the NSA is spying on them.
Or maybe, you know, create conditions so that we don’t have as many drug addicts? And homeless ppl starving? Not arguing against the rule of law, just saying that maybe, the “drug addict” didn’t have the choices in life others non-drug-addicts had? Maybe? Maybe not though, who knows…
Pi is notoriously light. You can use extensions but these perform changes in your end of the spectrum… so why would they care? I don’t see this affects Anthropic.
Re:How to Write with an LLM on Saturday September 19, 2026 @05:59AM (#49765025)
An LLM can read the diff and do the summary on the fly. What it cannot do, is explain the reason behind a change. That was always that valuable part of the commit msg. The rest can deducted, ofc it's much easier to read a short list or a descriptive title.
