How does limiting the timeline to 5,000 years enhance our ability to predict the future?

This isn't how short selling works.

If I short a stock, I borrow the share and the sell it on the market. If I loan the share to someone else and they sell it then it is still only sold once.

In my opinion it's more likely that people were either selling naked calls (which would convert into an IOU for stock) or that people were selling shares that didn't actually exist on the open market.

I don't know enough about settlement to verify the latter claim, but there are some reports of shares taking an excessively long time to settle. Those kind of irregularities should probably be more closely investigated.

How does it handle symbols that aren't legal javascript identifiers? Is that on the user or are the some safety conventions in place in the compiler?

6) Liability.
Doesn't it centralize control of the encryption and data to your company and your authentication provider?
So the only decentralized/blockchain part is authentication?
Can you provide any details as to how it will be free, scalable, and decentralized? The word blockchain doesn’t inspire my confidence.
Being able to discern large scale themes and patterns in data, then using those findings distill the original data input to minimally redundant messages, is similar to the goal of an AGI that can comprehend any input data.
Only the citizens who like to keep inert piles of cash buried in their back yard.
What is the value of the society that raised him and all the research and effort that came before him?
I interviewed at Facebook with the intention of getting an offer letter I could use as a bargaining chip with my first choices. I was rejected, but fortunately got into my first choice anyway. Despite all the perks and compensation, I would never want to work for Facebook.
It's not pronounced from the throat like the German "ch" but otherwise it's as close as it gets.
I suppose leveraged betting is done best when backed by worthless collateral.
If and only if you got your btc out of mtgox.
It works that way if he transferred the private key and then they murdered him. Blockchains and meatspace have different rules.
Employees are normally forbidden from trading any derivatives, short selling, or even buying shares in a margin account.

I’m not sure about the case of an employee that has left the company, but I expect that it would still qualify as insider trading through some window.

Real Estate has a certain real world utility.
You don’t think that these two things are correlated?
Last year Alexis O’hanion predicted BTC would be 20k and ETH 1.5k by this time too. Many executives seem over enthusiastic about cryptocurrencies to me.
Legislation is stuck at the money-in-money-out mechanic.
Re:Automation Agenda of the Davos Elite on Friday January 25, 2019 @09:03PM (#19004280)
Can we all get smarter? Children easily become experts at any modern device. If we automate everything and pour resources into cheap and scalable education could we make the majority of the population into information workers? Just a thought.
Re:What’s the rush? The power of a slow morning on Tuesday January 08, 2019 @02:36PM (#18858814)
I was a lifelong night owl. Six months ago I decided to start going to the gym and meditating every morning in an effort to completely reprogram my habits. Now I look forward to the mornings and find myself going to bed as soon as I feel like I can sleep. I'm convinced that our behaviors are mostly determined by our habits, and we can freely change our habits with sufficient commitment.
Re:Ethereum Plans to Cut Its Energy Consumption by 99 Percent on Thursday January 03, 2019 @04:17PM (#18819355)
Ethereum does seem to be the platform of choice for odd gambling games.
There are clear guidelines about civility. This is not reddit. If you're being downvoted it's not because people disagree with you. It is though very likely that many people disagree with you.
Re:Why I’m so “against” Ethereum on Saturday December 29, 2018 @09:44PM (#18787036)
So to be clear you're confirming that nothing works now and that not only use cases but also working tech is still entirely speculative?
I only see rational disagreement. Sorry that this discussion is making you emotional.
If the courts cannot control it then they will not recognize it as a source of truth. It's very binary.
If these tokens are truly regulated by the state and the ledger is editable by the courts, then there's nothing decentralized about it and it provides no advantages over the current system. All of this talk about decentralization and cutting out the middleman is a mirage.
I know people from Ethereum Foundation personally and it only strengthens my negative view of the space. You can believe whatever you want, but I'm interested in results and actually useful products. Currently there are zero. There are many who share your religious beliefs though.
I’m not sure that the creation of an asset bubble is a good metric for success. How do you feel about pets.com and tulips?
