> When people’s sensorium becomes an infinite firehose of AI-generated superstimulus, why would they hang out with anyone?
Well, a fairly good solution here is to become immune (or allergic to, or afraid of) superstimulus.
Also, I dunno, this is kind of like saying animals of species X are going to stop being interested in each other because humans exist.
Across what time period?
Most people do better economically over their lifetimes because most people's earnings grow as they progress in their careers.
The backlog is always infinitely large since you can always find things to change for no reason, sure. For that I recommend KonMari-ing it.
But if people are more productive then you can find new things for them to do, unless demand is falling.
Increased productivity makes employees more valuable, not less.
> It's in the interest of your employer to get the greatest amount of value for the smallest wage.
No it's not necessarily, because employment is a repeated game with public information.
(Other people can see how much you're paying people by checking levels.fyi/blind/etc.)
There's better ways to motivate people anyway - thus tech companies pay with stock grants and performance bonuses.
Most people are poor because being poor is the natural state of sentient beings. You should be amazed anyone is ever not poor.
Foreign companies suddenly increasing local wage levels isn't popular with local governments because it means all the local essential workers, doctors, government employees etc quit their jobs to work for the foreign company.
> You can still move if furniture was more expensive and higher quality.
But it's so heavy!
> You can't restore old furniture so the used market is full of stuff nobody really wants if they have the choice.
My last mover actually did repair half of my furniture because he had a bunch of spare Ikea parts.
That's right-NIMBYism. California is expensive because of left-NIMBYism in the cities, and pastoralist old people in the suburbs.
(Also because of firefighters. And American urban planners who basically believe their job is to stop any project that anyone ever objects to.)
> Today the furniture we buy is much less expensive as a percentage of income but the quality is crap and you may end up needing to replace it once the finish has worn off because refinishing would be as expensive as buying another crap quality piece of furniture.
But that's not a problem and is likely a good thing. eg it lets you move more often which reduces your commute.
Though none of my Ikea furniture has ever failed and most of it is ~15 years old.
Users don't always have write access to the apps.
> There’s a reason we went from massages and pet daycare to rentier agriculture executive style management of the peons.
And that reason is "service businesses are too expensive in California because of high housing costs".
“If you want a simple model for predicting the
unemployment rate in the United States over
the next few years, here it is: It will be what
[Alan] Greenspan wants it to be, plus or minus a random
error reflecting the fact that he is not quite God.”
-- Paul Krugman, 1997
Note this does not say "it will decrease if we suddenly invent new productivity technologies".
Copyleft comes with restrictions on code - you have to keep it public. It's the BSD licenses that basically don't.
Well, first step I'd recommend not looking. There is someone in the world whose job it is to look at this. You're doing their job for free! [0]
As for turning things off, it's a bad idea to sell a product you haven't tested, and it's also a bad idea to add settings that randomly break stuff because users will forget they changed those settings. So it's difficult.

Daemons like duetexpertd should be running at a low QoS if they're doing background work and shouldn't be capable of interrupting an app. So you've found a bug. You can report it with Feedback Assistant if you want.
Continental philosophers do frequently write complete nonsense (often intentionally), but this isn't hard to follow.
> Althusserian theory
though I think using this term is rather un-feminist because of the part where he killed his wife, but basically continental philosophers will forgive you for anything as long as you're a French communist.
IME they're usually the first thing you see when you get to the comments, so the really long essays are possibly a way to bore people into not getting to the comment section.
They use automated graders now. It's more likely the communication style was rewarded by overly strict grading rubrics.
(ie "honest caveats" wording comes from a reward for being honest about drawbacks instead of covering them up)
Note Opus 5.5 is much less likely to do it.
AI writing style comes from post-training, which is entirely under the control of the labs. It's not copying it from any public sources.
Vibe coding hasn't existed for years, has it?
Exploiting people and resources is a terrible way to be extremely profitable; it's very inefficient.

This is why economics is called "the dismal science"; slaveowners got mad that economists told them having slaves was inefficient and decided the economists were bores.
“I never thought I would be so rich as to be able to own a car, but I did become rich — so rich that in the end I could give up working if I liked. That was a great surprise to me.
But at the same time, it was the irony of life that while I could afford a car, I could not afford a maid."
- Agatha Christie
It's imputed income because you don't have to pay rent.
That would be unlikely unless you're a single pass transformer model.
Pangram is reliable.
It would be easy for them to use AI for ideas and then write the article themselves though.
It wouldn't help much in this case, because of Apple's "functional" team architecture - basically if you add more people to each project then there is no way for them to contribute in a way that adds up to a fulltime job.
> Get Crank to start Time Machine backups immediately when I connect my HDD and notify me when the backup is done.
Is that not how it works out of the box?
It's more like "Ritalin gives you the ability to do laundry more often than once a month", but okay.
(I found Intuniv, which is basically the opposite of a stimulant and has the opposite side effects, actually helps more. But that's very personal and it also gives me nasty insomnia if I'm not incredibly careful.)
