I am. Thus the complaint. I would think the general audience here is of a higher caliber than low-class cultures whose values and education can't rise above profanity.

Re:Shitter – A Nitter Fork on Friday October 23, 2026 @10:00AM (#50209139)
Absolutely not! Such low life gutter talk is not acceptable in polite society and shouldn't be allowed in any professional atmosphere. Or am I again trying to elevate HN?
Re:Shitter – A Nitter Fork on Friday October 23, 2026 @09:45AM (#50208902)
No professional would stoop so low as to name any project such a thing. And HN should never post such low class gutter language.
Talk about naive. The vast majority of innocent people would never plead guilty to a crime they didn't commit. Don't apply such things to normal people with better intelligence.

>>Images are just folders that Docker puts somewhere and then calls chroot (or pivot_root) to make that folder your container process’s new root directory.

And folders are graphical representations of directories--sometimes, not always--and not directories themselves. When will the newbies get this?

You need to get off the internet immediately--especially reddit. Normal people wake up in the morning, put their clothes on, go to work, and come home. You're reading about people who are not the normal everyman and applying it to all persons (and all of the USA). Quit doing that.
Admitting to guilt, even when innocent, is not normal behavior among a normal population. As evidence, the topic of this thread, and probably you and me, and not some unknown elements in a story by NPR.
Don't teach your kids that some one-off oddball case reported by non-standard news media is the norm. It's not.
Let's not pretend this is an every day occurrence that happens to everyone. It's a one-off oddball situation. I'm not even sure we have all the details considering the sources.

Namecheap turned me into a newt

This is an anonymous post on Reddit.

I repeat. This was on Reddit. Consider what credibility there might be.

There was a movie, maybe on Netflix, about Holmes not too long ago. I was surprised to see this movie coming out because I thought that one was pretty well done and covered everything this movie might (I have not seen this one).

Has anyone else seen both and can they comment on the differences?

As if no large software system ever had such a problem and doesn't still today.
Re:A Modern Web App in C on Monday October 12, 2026 @04:12PM (#50062314)
It was February, 2004
Re:A Modern Web App in C on Monday October 12, 2026 @03:59PM (#50062128)
I started a web dev company 22 years ago after developing an online menu ordering system for a restaurant I owned. I, then we, did pretty much the same thing as talked about in the posting but we used fastcgi. I started with C because I knew C. That was my real job. It ran so well, the franchise bought the software from me--and then devolved it to all the Microsoft stuff and had issues upon issues from then on out. That's another story.

I continued to make sites for other venues that needed online ordering; such as theatre companies and restaurants. All in C, fastcgi, FreeBSD, postgresql and h2o-server cause it always did what we wanted without bending to someone else's rules. It was fast and easy to make changes while changes weren't made for us or without our consent. We did very well for ourselves.

Your server, operating system and database might all be written in C right now.

Exactly what I used and wonder why the OP didn't. I'll comment at the top.
iirc, someone on HN, a while back, showed there were almost 64,000 crimes of some sort so far this year where evidence was produced or property recovered due to Flock. But there are ten(?) or so incidents of cops tracking someone illegally.

I was going to write that I found this odd. The kid that cuts my grass is going for a degree in CS and told me just yesterday that, in his second year, Java is the language he uses with a little Python. That C was such a struggle and he won't touch it.

For someone getting a CS degree, that just seems so, so odd. Along with that, he's been studying edge detection in images. In his second year. Not to run off topic but, again, I find that so, so odd.

Far more relevant than all the assumptions made in all the responses here
>The St. Charles County Police Department arrested six juveniles after a car stolen out of Kirkwood was located in Weldon Spring.

>The St. Charles County Police Department said the incident began when a car was stolen in Kirkwood at around 7:30 a.m. Cpl. Barry Bayles with St. Charles County police, said a license plate reader in the county identified the car at around 9:50, and a second reader spotted it at around 9:30.

These were smaller theatre companies, about 100 seats if I recall, that didn't have assigned seating. I built the ticketing system myself.
I pay $2.03/month and ran seven theatre company sites including ticketing, five restaurants with online ordering, and my personal site with FreeBSD including email.
She said that when she earns her PhD she wants to bring it back to the region but what would a degree in Language Studies bring to a region with so little?

Re:Why don't more developers "use the platform"? on Sunday October 04, 2026 @12:14PM (#49955196)
The box-sizing property is another way of calculating element sizes but not the default way or the only way. Those of us who were adept at calculating the area sizes after years of doing so had no need for it. Those who are new to the game and can't figure it out use box-sizing.

I find that developers add a CSS reset without thinking about it as if there is always a need. We never used resets. There was never a need. Typically we would set something according to the design anyway and starting with a reset was like slamming something against one wall only to throw it back to a different wall later.

I'm old enough but didn't get it. Though I was into Unix at the time, I never looked at Linux till 2004.

I did recognize it when it was brought up here but not before.

Re:FLUX 3 Image on Friday October 02, 2026 @03:13PM (#49937335)
But I don't use it or need it and wasted my time trying to figure out what it did. Clarity should be up front.
