My first question: are they lighter than the first iteration? Answer: nope - still 386.2g. Which doesn't read like a lot, but I certainly notice it after an amount of time.

Heh, and as the real text in the left and right sidebars scales, the article preview shrinks. Needs some constraints on the centre column.

Yes. Output can be sent to a Braille device too.

The statement is about encouraging folks to use the platform: `<button>Hello!</button>` over `<div role=button tabindex=0>Hello</div>`

Re:Apple Releases Open Weights Video Model on Tuesday December 02, 2025 @08:53AM (#46121184)
One way to frame it is: "how would I describe this image to somebody sat next to me?"
Apt, given the earlier discussion around Nolan Lawson's article: when used diligently, ARIA can help turn that div soup into something users, user agents, assistive technologies _and_ developers can make better sense of.

As the article mentions, slapping aria-label on everything won't make an interface accessible and might have unintended consequences.

Re:Selfish reasons for building accessible UIs on Tuesday June 17, 2025 @05:48AM (#44297325)
Is that extra development cheaper than the risk of a lawsuit or loss of reputation? Not forgetting the ~20% of potential customers you might be missing out on…

> not least that you aren't imposing a heavy tax on everyone else for a really small customer base.

Ah. Seeing your disabled customers as a burden. One day you might encounter barriers when it comes to computing.

It's a shame that the overengineered anchor links in TFA don't work with the keyboard.

You can shorthand the last four declarations with a single `inset: 10px;` (or maybe `inset: .625rem;`?

I took from it that [the designers] are all mouth and no trousers – which is fairly common. But "the poor disabled people" seems patronising.
Re:Crossing the USA by Train on Monday October 28, 2024 @11:06AM (#41971782)
Leaving Germany? Fine. Entering Germany from Austria? Yes, knock at the door at 4AM.

Having recently visited Germany via plane, they have certainly gotten stricter/performative. Leaving Munich for London and despite already have presented passports to immigration, they had police checking passports on the gangway to the aeroplane…

Re:Don't use "click here" for link text on Wednesday October 23, 2024 @01:06PM (#41927045)
Indeed: can you imagine attempting to disambiguate a list of links that all say "Click here" or "Read more"?
Re:Lonely, but not always alone on Thursday February 08, 2024 @05:24PM (#39308615)
I feel lonely in my new job, when I'm in the office. I don't work directly with anybody there. There's hustle and bustle, and I feel like the new kid.

I don't feel that when I'm elsewhere.

Re:Austria rail operator OeBB unveils new night trains on Sunday October 08, 2023 @10:06AM (#37810547)
Recently took the Nightjet from Stuttgart to Bled (Slovenia). The outbound service must have been reconfigured as we had booked a private berth, but were assigned a couchette with a stranger supposedly joining my partner and I at Munich. Kinda made it difficult to get to sleep, but this person never materialised. The attendant was very friendly and helpful. They did mention to keep the doors locked overnight.

During the return journey we got our private berth, but had a rather lengthy delay at Salzburg waiting for several other services (from Venice etc) to join ours, then had to stop again just over the border for the Polizei to inspect our passports at 5AM – started to get a little anxious that we were going to miss our connection and the whole house of cards was going to come down.

Similar to others, I was woken at Salzburg by shouts of people on the platform. I heard whistles as I presume the authorities dealt with folks boarding on the train who weren't supposed to…

That said, overall a good experience, and would happily use the service again.

Their use of alt text leaves a little to be desired:

"An image with a message from Bethesda software"

Technically correct, yes.

I wonder if this acted as some inspiration for the 2-Bit character in Deathloop: the vocals in particular are similar.
I mean, it's got legacy support…

A lot of these 'lazy' or convenience foods aren't just useful in times of famine or war, but they make it easier for those who are less able to cook from scratch. Somebody with dexterity issues will benefit from pre-prepared foods.

Doesn't that pretty much become Sky Movies?

Theresa May, is that you?
Arsenal's successes at the turn of the decade were based around a more counter-attacking style than they've employed since the stadium move.

Looks like this season they have taken a leaf out of Leicester's book and gone for the pacy trident of Iwobi, Sanchez and Walcott to launch counters with.

Interesting that the photo of two women on the beach is given a higher NSFW rating than the photo of a man on the beach.
