Re:Who Is Planting Backdoors in Ledger Crypto Wallets? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @02:39PM (#50092772)
Typically happens when my account is a few months old. It is annoying that you have to wait a few hours to reply on someone. On to the next account.

It was the decision of Ledger to use a reseller and to increase their attack vector just so the customer wouldn't be inconvenienced with three more days of shipping. Bad decision in my opinion.

It was also the decision of the customers to still buy a Ledger device despite being breached multiple times.

Re:Who Is Planting Backdoors in Ledger Crypto Wallets? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:55AM (#50086248)
From what I read, an official reseller was breached. It was the decision of Ledger to use that reseller in the first place and to not do a check on their distribution chain. They could have sold straight to the customer instead.
Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:52AM (#50086220)
VAT is included in the listed price with AliExpress. The various EU duties and processing fees get added at checkout.

AliExpress has a fairly integrated shipping pipeline but the problem with smaller retailers is that you can pay VAT at check-out through IOSS, but the shipping company doesn't accept the paperwork and you have to pay VAT (and all other duties/fees) again to the shipping company. Happens a lot with packages from non-Chinese Asia (Japan, Thailand, Malaysia).

Re:Who Is Planting Backdoors in Ledger Crypto Wallets? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:39AM (#50086086)
The bigger question is, who is still buying Ledger Crypto Wallets? Wasn't this their fourth breach?
Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:35AM (#50086049)
The problem with AliExpress and other foreign retailers for us EU-ians is that you get €3 in duty per product category, then another €2 per package in processing fees (from November 2026), then you get VAT over the duty and with a bit of luck the final carrying company doesn't accept your IOSS paperwork and you have to pay the VAT, the duty, the VAT over the duty, the new processing fee and their handling fees (€5 to €50) again.
That is reasonable. I hope you didn't lose your wallet.
But why not order directly with ledger? They ship all over the world.
What made you purchase the ledger from a third party and not directly from ledger itself?
About one in five international money transfers fail for me. EU to EU countries. SEPA isn’t bulletproof. Outside office hours I have an even higher failure rate.

Ironically the failure rate when I use the American Visa or MasterCard is maybe 5%.

I wonder if the Eastern European workers on the German part of the tunnel are paid below minimum wage or if that is only allowed for agriculture.

I bet the local thrift stores are going to love all the gifted HomeViews they are going to receive in 2027.

The Google Nest Hub is legal in the EU because you can install whatever AI agent you want on it.

Not only best design, also a better interior, steering feel and engine lineup than the F30 that came after. I get a bit sad when I see an F30 on the road.

Re:Show HN: PS2 games statically recompiled to WebAssembly on Monday October 12, 2026 @04:39PM (#50062726)
Most people I know use the DualShock 4 for PS2 emulation. All you need is to write a mapping for the DS3, 4 and 5 to the DS2 curve and you can cover a big part of the users.

Open up the game console with ~ and type “tiananmen square 1989”. The Chinese operative monitoring your game will automatically disconnect.
Shouting racist slurs at the opposition, making monkey noises and throwing bananas is surely why my team won the match! Couldn’t have done it without us.
Put a person from 1870s London in current-day London. At first they will be amazed by the technological advancements. Then they will be amazed by how dumb the average person has become. Idiocracy is a documentary, not a comedy.
Instructing a computer via direct instructions versus via a prompt. I believe the line between this will become vague in the future.
I could probably make a small PCB with a light sensor, that disconnects the solar panels (through a relay) once sunlight hits the sensor. So you aren't paying any fees for supplying the grid with energy.

What is wrong with creating more housing for more people? Seems like something the UK could use right now.

I think you can find a freestanding house in former DDR for less than 300k but it will certainly not come with a pool! Maybe a mud puddle if you are lucky.

Germany uses freistehendes Haus, hence my use of "freestanding house".

Detached sounds funny, as if the house was previously attached to another but not anymore. Like how you can only be divorced or widowed after being married to someone.
